This study is part of a collaborative work with the women of Sacsamarca, recognized for being one of the first communities in Ayacucho to confront the violence of Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path) in Peru in the 1980's. The starting point is community psychology in dialogue with decolonial feminism to build a methodological design relevant to the historical, social and cultural context of this Andean community. We used field ethnography and life histories, as well as photographic records to understand the different experiences of well-being/discomfort of a group of adult women living in Sacsamarca. From the thematic analysis, we identify some dimensions and themes that emerge from the different data collection techniques. We found a set of “healing acts”, as artistic and ritual expressions with nature, which are characterized by their communal, performative, spiritual, affective and resistant features. From this, we assert the importance for the women of this community, affectivity and collective action for the search of wellbeing based on respect, relationality and care of cultural frameworks.

Making rivers, producing futures: The rise of an eco-modern river imaginary in Dutch climate change adaptation
    (2024-01-11)
In the field of climate change adaptation, the future matters. Amongst others, river futures justify the way adaptation projects materialize in rivers. In this paper, we challenge the ways in which dominant paradigms and expert claims monopolise the truth concerning policies and designs of river futures, side-lining and delegitimizing alternative river futures. Currently, limited work is done to critically reflect on the power of river futures in the context of climate change adaptation. We conceptualized the power of river futures through river imaginaries: collectively performed and publicly envisioned reproductions of riverine socionatures, mobilized through truth claims of social life and social order. Through the Border Meuse project case study, a climate change adaptation project in a stretch of the river Meuse in the south of the Netherlands and a proclaimed success story of climate adaptation in Dutch water management, we elucidated how three river imaginaries: a modern river imaginary, a market-driven imaginary and an eco-centric river imaginary, merged and materialized as an eco-modern river imaginary. Importantly, not only the river futures merged, also their aligned truth regimes merged. To this end, we argue that George Orwell’s famous quote “Who controls the past, controls the future: who controls the present, controls the past” can be extended to ‘Who controls the future, controls how we see and act in the present, and how we rediscover the past’.

Entre a representação e o silêncio. “La Página del Pueblo” no primeiro ano da revista Mundial (Peru, 1920-1931)
    (Universidad Nacional de Colombia::will be referenced::ROR-ID, 2024-06-29)
To analyze Mundial magazine’s “La página del pueblo” (LPDP) within the context of Augusto Leguía’s “Patria Nueva” and the conceptualizations about the magazine genre. Methodology: By focusing on LPDP during the magazine’s first year of circulation, we aim to delve into the problematics posed by this section, especially during a time of alleged sociopolitical opening and renewal. The disciplinary fields include: magazine studies, which provide a framework to address the materialities and understand the uniqueness of Mundial with regards to other equivalent publications in the region; history studies, to insert the themes and problems into the map of the discussions and situations of the moment; and visual culture studies, with the guidelines to analyze the written-visual frameworks and consider the section as the image-object granted to “el pueblo” silenced and violated in other sections of the magazine. Originality: There is a lack of studies about Mundial’s “La página del pueblo” or about specific sections of the magazine. The presence of relevant figures from the literary-intellectual field, such as Mariátegui, evaded concerns about a controversial publication that, despite giving a platform to intellectuals associated with a vindictive thought, remained, as this reading from the edge to the center suggests, close to the interests of the liberal bourgeoisie and Christian thought. Conclusions: LPDP was the discussion platform for problems of a socio-national group that remained as an object of reflection and not as a political subject. The reduced amount of images of popular sectors, as well as their mediated depictions and continuous infantilization, showcase to what extent the attempts to represent popular groups actually had the opposite outcome.

Understanding contextual variations in executive function through habits, representations, and reflection
    (Frontiers Media, 2026-01-01)
Executive function (EF) is often considered a domain-general ability or set of component processes related to conscious control best assessed in decontextualized controlled settings. However, recent calls have advocated for more consideration of the role that context may play in EF's conceptualization and assessment. Reconciling these two approaches presents a challenge. This paper explores the possibility of considering EF in terms of its function— achieving a goal. From this view, the function of EF can be achieved through multiple pathways and thus is best measured across multiple contexts that have a shared goal of resisting a prepotent response that conflicts with a correct goal-driven response. Examination of EF across multiple contexts should reveal individual differences in the conscious regulation of thought and behavior toward the outcome of a goal across multiple tasks. We explore a social representational framework for exploring the cognition that underlies the variability in conscious goal-directed thought and behavior. This framework suggests that representational skills related to forming, maintaining, and reflecting on goal-relevant information are at the center of EF and necessary for overriding habitual prepotent responses. Finally, because representational ability and habits are developed within and shaped by a sociocultural context (e.g., through language, communication, values, and beliefs), contextual differences are key to understanding how individual differences in the regulation of behavior emerges and how context may shape EF demands.

Subjectivity and Rural Development: Challenges and Opportunities
    (Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., 2026-01-01)
This final chapter integrates the contributions presented in this book. It concludes by showing how the analysis of the different chapters in this book demonstrates how the processes of subjectivation and human development are culturally mediated by the context in which the participants have developed throughout their lives. It shows how rural contexts are a rich setting for exploring individual and collective psychological development phenomena. Finally, some challenges and future guidelines for research are presented.
