Item type:Publication, Unresolved attachment state of mind, maternal care and child attachment security in two mother-child dyads(Universidad Catolica del Uruguay, 2020-01-01)This study aims to describe the attachment representations of two mothers classified as unresolved in their state of mind with respect to attachment, as well as the specific characteristics of their interactions with their children: the quality of their care and the security of the child’s attachment. The Adult Attachment Interview was used to evaluate attachment representations, the Maternal Behavior Q-Set 2.1 was used for the quality of maternal sensitivity, and the security of the child’s attachment was evaluated with the Attachment Q-Set 3.0. The results show that while attachment is unresolved in both mothers due to their own experiences of childhood abuse, their sub-classification (secure attachment in one case and insecure in the other) is associated with differences in how they perceive and respond to the child’s needs, and in the security of the child’s attachment. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Are fathers' rearing histories associated with their involvement in childrearing? A Peruvian study(Associacao Portuguesa de Psicologia, 2022-01-01)This study compares father involvement, relative to the mother, in Peruvian families with preschool age children. We also examined father's rearing history and sociodemographic characteristics as predictors of involvement in child related activities. Two hundred and six families participated in the study. Results showed that mothers were more involved in direct and indirect care, and fathers tended to be more involved in play. Teaching/discipline and outdoor leisure activities were shared. The models tested for paternal involvement in direct, indirect care, and outdoor leisure were significant. Father s rearing history was a main predictor of direct care and outdoor leisure. Fathers' perceptions of their own mothers' care were negatively associated with their involvement in direct care; and their perceptions of their own fathers' overprotection/control were negatively associated with fathers' involvement in outdoor leisure. Results are discussed based on stereotypical gender-based role division in childrearing, and the modeling and compensatory hypotheses.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The Systematic Case Study in Psychodynamic Focal Psychotherapy with Abused Women: A Context-Sensitive Approach to Understanding Psychological Change(Springer Science+Business Media, 2025-01-01)This chapter aims to critically evaluate the systematic single-case design on two levels. First, as a tool for obtaining an in-depth and qualitative understanding of the change processes in women experiencing intimate partner violence, who underwent brief psychodynamic psychotherapy within a State institutional context. Second, to examine the challenges this population and working framework pose to the implementation of the time-limited psychotherapy technique. To achieve this, a review of the methodological design is presented, highlighting its relevance within the Practice-Oriented Research paradigm. The chapter further explores the conceptual elements that contextualize the understanding and intervention with vulnerable populations, particularly in cases of intimate partner violence. Finally, the chapter discusses the results of various studies using the single-case design. These studies have focused on understanding change by analyzing significant events in the therapeutic process, as well as observing the particularities and variations in the relational configurations of the clients throughout the intervention. In this regard, it aims to establish a dialogue between research and clinical practice with the goal of contributing to the implementation of intervention frameworks and clinical competencies that are relevant and sensitive to the needs of this vulnerable population.2 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Pathways to affect-discourse integration: the role of gestural interaction in change episodes in a case of focal teletherapy at a university mental health service(Taylor & Francis, 2026-01-01)This systematic single-case study aims to articulate the gestural-affective interaction and verbal exchange between patient and therapist during episodes of representational change in a depressed young adult consulting at a university health service. Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy sessions conducted in a virtual setting were coded with the Generic Change Indicators System to identify Change Episodes, which were later processed with the Face Reader Recognition Software to observe their gestural-affective correlates. The data was analyzed under an emergent Thematic Analysis. Four implicit relational transactions were identified as relevant milestones to account for the patient process of affect/discourse integration: Balance, Discernment, Marking and Synchrony. The results show the ability of the therapeutic relationship to act as a resonant affective device, enabling the connection of discourse with the emotional domain, contributing with the elaboration of the Interpersonal Affective Focus and increasing the patient's affective flexibility. The gestural-affective therapeutic interaction works as a relational context that enables the co-construction of what is traditionally understood as insight.5
