Influence of indirect internal stakeholders on the performance of strategic projects: Understanding the behaviour of projects in universities in Bogotá
    (Inderscience Publishers, 2020-01-01)
The purpose of this paper is to discover the effect of the extent, engagement, and empowerment of indirect stakeholders on the performance of internal strategic projects through the moderating effect of complexity. This research was conducted in the City of Bogotá in public and private universities from a sample of 356 respondents. The system of statistical analysis used to test the hypothesis of the research was structural equation modelling (SEM). The proposed model has an endogenous latent variable called performance of internal strategic project, and three exogenous variables called stakeholder extent, stakeholder engagement, stakeholder empowerment, and as moderating variable, project complexity. The findings carry theoretical implications for these bodies of knowledge in management: project management and strategic management. Stakeholder extent has a significant effect on performance of internal strategic projects. Stakeholder engagement does not have a significant effect on performance of internal strategic projects. Stakeholder empowerment has a significant effect on performance of internal strategic projects. Complexity is the moderating variable between stakeholder extent and stakeholder engagement on performance of internal strategic projects. This paper's originality is manifest in the variables used, and in its depth of analysis of a gap found in the literature related to indirect stakeholders.

Identification and selection of stakeholder engagement strategies: case study of an Iranian oil and gas construction project
    (Taylor & Francis, 2021-03-19)
Despite emphasizing the great importance of stakeholder management, there is a gap in applying a decision support system to adopt sustainable strategies for stakeholder engagement and conflict resolution especially in oil and gas projects. This paper presents a new framework for adopting the strategies in one of the largest oil and gas projects in Iran. In this proposed framework, firstly, the hybrid SWOT analysis and fuzzy Delphi method are used to identify and rank the sustainable stakeholder engagement strategies for managing conflicts. Then, a mathematical programming model was proposed to select the optimal strategies to maximize stakeholder engagement. The findings indicate that the results of the hybrid SWOT analysis and fuzzy Delphi method and the mathematical programming model are the same and the high ranked strategies obtained by the hybrid SWOT analysis and fuzzy Delphi method are selected in the proposed mathematical programming model as well. Also, each selected strategy can cover more than one conflict and improve stakeholder engagement.

Able or disabled: Why should neurodiverse students experience improved access to public universities? An exploratory study
    (Emerald Publishing, 2024-09-25)
This paper aims to answer the question: To what extent should neurodiverse students experience improved access to public universities in Egypt and why? Design/methodology/approach: A systematic qualitative research method was used with data collected through semi-structured interviews with 44 educators in four universities in Egypt. A thematic approach was implemented to analyze the collected data. Findings: The addressed educators believe that greater representation of neurodiverse students in their schools should be a priority for the following four reasons: first, neurodiverse students represent a promising new market segment schools could benefit from; second, recruiting more neurodiverse students represents a chance for schools and faculties to prove the social role they can undertake; third, schools can benefit from the unique skills many neurodiverse students have, particularly in mathematical and computational skills; and fourth, the greater the representation of neurodiverse students, the more research projects and funding opportunities educators can obtain. Originality/value: This paper contributes by filling a gap in diversity management, higher education and human resources management in which empirical studies on the representation of neurodiverse individuals in public universities have been limited so far.

To What Extent Does Virtual Learning Promote the Implementation of Responsible Management Education? A Study of Management Educators
    (Elsevier Ltd, 2023-07-01)
This paper aims to explore the extent to which virtual learning fosters the implementation of responsible management education (RME) in public business schools in Egypt. We conducted semi-structured interviews with 27 management educators working at three public business schools in Egypt. Thematic analysis was undertaken on the collected data resulting in four major themes. The findings reveal that management educators perceive difficulty in implementing responsible management education in the context of virtual learning due to the following four factors: employing a student-centred learning approach, inability to use collaborative teaching pedagogies in virtual learning, lack of academic freedom, and poor info-structure characterising the Egyptian context. The present study is the pioneering works to empirically investigate the relationship between the shift towards virtual learning and the implementation of responsible management education, particularly in non-Western contexts.

Responsible Leadership Practices in the Hospitality Sector Family Businesses: Evidence from an Emerging Market
    (Emerald Publishing, 2023-11-14)
The study aims to find out the extent to which hospitality sector family-owned businesses in Egypt feel committed to responsible leadership practices and subsequently meet their stakeholders' expectations. Design/methodology/approach: The authors conducted semi-structured interviews with 24 owners of family restaurants in Egypt. Thematic analysis was undertaken on the collected data resulting in four major themes. Findings: The authors find that the four dimensions (aggregation of virtuousness, stakeholder involvement, individual competencies and ethical contributions) are not fully exercised by the owners despite their readiness to behave correctly according to social norms. Furthermore, the respondents elaborated that they do not fully understand how to commence playing a role in contributing to the common good in their societies. Originality/value: To the best of the authors’ knowledge, the present study is the first to empirically investigate responsible leadership practices in the context of small and medium-sized family businesses (restaurants in this case), particularly in the emerging market and non-Western contexts.

Stakeholder perspectives for business through future scenarios: The case of sustainable recovery in Peru
    (Krakow University of Economics, 2026-06-01)
Objective: This article aims to provide an overview of the stakeholders' perspectives towards the climate change-oriented recovery of businesses in Peru, contributing to moving forward the literature related to the Stakeholder Theory and Sustainable Development. Research Design & Methods: We used a qualitative approach and conducted four focus group sessions to collect data. Moreover, we used a future studies methodology to obtain structured feedback from the stakeholders regarding four plausible future scenarios for businesses in Peru. Findings: The government appears as the key actor regulating the business environment, facilitating, among others, essential policies and resources such as decentralisation, education, biodiversity, technology, alliances, and energy transition that stakeholders could build upon as well. Implications & Recommendations: Our theoretical contribution emphasises the uncertainty around the stakeholders' purposes, according to the different perspectives that we found toward a common concern. Moreover, this contribution supports stakeholder salience under crisis periods, drawing attention to redefining stakeholder priorities. Moreover, we built upon sustainable development literature, analysing how Peruvian companies can adapt and achieve resilience toward future scenarios. Contribution & Value Added: Future Studies methodology allowed us to assess how stakeholders are salient in crises towards business recovery. Peru constitutes a relevant case due to its institutional context, climate vulnerability, and socio-economic crises.
