Item type:Publication, Exploring Enabling Factors for Innovation Outcomes. A Firm-Level Analysis(EAFIT University, 2020-07-28)Major innovation research has been primarily focused on developed countries, creating a gap in the literature related to innovation processes in emerging markets, such as Latin America. Even as some studies are aimed toward this region, their approach is usually only from the standpoint of an R&D funding perspective. This paper aims to discuss the relationship between resources for innovation and sources of innovation with innovation outcomes, using a sample of Peruvian companies, which received public funds oriented to the developing of innovative activities. Results found evidence that the presence of resources for innovation and sources of innovation have a positive influence on innovation outcomes. Moreover, resources for innovation are related to non-technological innovation, with internal R&D being the most carried out by companies even when it is not related to product nor process innovation. While sources of innovation are related to product innovation, firms demonstrated an incipient use of inter-firm collaboration strategies as its sources it. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The effects of individual characteristics on women intention to become social entrepreneurs?(Wiley, 2020-06-29)Which individual‐level factors motivate women to become a social entrepreneur? To answer this question, we examined the direct impact of problem‐solving skills, networking ability, and entrepreneurial knowledge with social entrepreneurial intention. Furthermore, we tested the indirect effects of these three factors through self‐efficacy. The study hypotheses were tested using a sample of 234 Bangladeshi women. In this research, Smart PLS 3.0 has been used to assess the study hypotheses. Our findings confirmed a positive and significant relation among problem‐solving skills, networking ability, and entrepreneurial knowledge with social entrepreneurial intention. Moreover, our data confirmed that self‐efficacy mediates the relationship among problem‐solving skills, networking ability, and entrepreneurial knowledge with social entrepreneurial intention. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, 2017 Coastal El Niño in Peru: an opportunity to analyze the influence of hazard mitigation plans on local resilience(Elsevier, 2021-01-01)This research proposes an ex post methodology for analyzing the influence of Hazard Mitigation Plans in the level of resilience in localities affected by an extreme event. For verifying its applicability, the case of heavy rainfalls of the 2017 coastal El Niño event in Peru is analyzed. The methodology consists of two analysis levels. The first one correlates the quality of existing plans with damages and recovery rapidity. The second analysis level focuses on one sample of the localities selected for performing a deeper qualitative-territorial analysis. The methodology applicability was verified, and we determined that the reduction of direct damages after an event is correlated to the existence of actions such as land use regulation and the structural reinforcement. Moreover, the identification of those responsible for these processes, the verification of possible financing funds and the estimation of intervention costs positively influence on the reconstruction rapidity. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Quality in the supermarket sector in Peru(Inderscience Publishers, 2021-01-01)This research aims to analyse the supermarket companies in Peru that have implemented or not a quality management system (QMS), considering the total quality management (TQM) factors. The instrument includes four blocks (top management, supplier, process management and customer) and nine factors, as well as 35 variables based on a sample of 73 companies in the Peruvian supermarket sector. In this sector, companies with and without the quality management system did not have significant differences in the nine TQM factors. It is also analysed if ISO 9000:2015 principles are considered in the TQM factors and if the managers in the companies are doing what they are asked in the questionnaire. This study gives a new perception and new insights about the management of the supermarket sector in Peru in terms of quality and the important impact that this topic have in these companies. A more comprehensive exploration of supermarket's quality management in developing countries with a different perspective would be useful for enhancing the literature.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Adopción de pronunciamientos internacionales en la formación de contadores en universidades peruanas(Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, 2024-07-31)To analyze the extent to which the International Training Pronouncements have been incorporated into the profile of the graduate and the study plans of the Accounting program in Peruvian universities. Methods: The research was conducted using a descriptive and non-experimental design, applying content analysis techniques to the profile of the graduate and the study plans of a population and sample of 62 Peruvian universities offering degrees in Accounting, without excluding any units. Data analysis involved classifying into three categories, processed using Excel. Results: It is evident that there is a lack of timely updates in the majority of graduate profiles and study plans analyzed, as well as limited incorporation of technical competencies and professional skills required by the International Training Pronouncements. Conclusion: The absence of timely updates to graduate profiles and study plans in the Accounting program negatively impacts the provision of quality education, aligned with employer demands, as well as the insufficient incorporation of technical competencies and professional skills required by international standards. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The role of information in eliciting support for inheritance taxation(London School of Economics and Political Science, 2024-12-04)This paper uses a survey experiment embedded in the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement (SHARE) for Luxembourg – a representative sample of the population aged 50 and above in the country – to show how provision of information influences elicited support for inheritance taxation. While support is low in generic, direct questions about inheritance taxation, support increases when respondents are asked to express views about linear tax rates with explicit tax exemption thresholds and when information is provided about how tax revenues will be used – especially if respondents are told revenues will be used to improve the quality of basic education. This information effect plays even in our setting in which the focus is on inheritances from parents to children. It is only relevant however for respondents who were initially opposed to the tax and does not affect strongly the proponents. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, To Survive or Not to Survive: Findings from PLS-SEM on the Relationship Between Organizational Resources and Startups' Survival(Springer International Publishing, 2023-11-14)This study explores the phenomenon of startup survival in an incipient entrepreneurship ecosystem. For this purpose, multiple and simultaneous relation-ships between organizational resources, incubation, and startup survival are validated empirically. The analysis used PLS-SEM on a sample of 119 startups operating in different markets in Peru. The results show that survival is explained directly by a combination of entrepreneurial and organizational capital but indirectly by a chain of causal links. In this way, social capital determines human capital, and human capital also determines entrepreneurial capital. Thus, this study contributes to the literature in management and entrepreneurship with one alternative way to measure a phenomenon of greater complexity to demonstrate the survival of Peruvian startups. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, How many democratic countries have conducted COVID-19 public inquiries? An exploratory study of government-led postpandemic reviews (2020–2024)(BMJ Publishing Group, 2025-07-01)Introduction: Many governments have initiated national inquiries into their responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. Lessons drawn from them will matter for public health policies. While these inquiries represent an opportunity for policy learning, there may also be obstacles. This study helps to explore these opportunities and obstacles by providing an initial survey of COVID-19 inquiries. Methods: We collected a novel data set of national COVID-19 inquiries in democratic countries, taking note of their type, membership, timing, mandate and whether their terms of reference asked the inquiry to consider the adequacy of the government pandemic response as well as the collateral harms arising from government interventions. We conducted a series of panel logit analyses to examine the extent to which country-level factors-such as the level of democracy and executive oversight, centralisation of executive power and economic development-were associated with the likelihood of appointing a COVID-19 inquiry. Results: We found 32 national COVID-19 inquiries, held in 25 (32%) of the countries in our data set, which included 78 countries with a score of at least 0.6 on the 2019 Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) Electoral Democracy Index. Of the 32 national inquiries, 14 (44%) were public inquiries (proper), 15 (47%) were inquiries conducted by parliamentary committees and 3 (9%) were another type of inquiry. The earliest public inquiries (proper) were launched in the first half of 2020 in the Scandinavian countries. Generally, countries were slightly quicker to establish parliamentary committee inquiries than public inquiries proper. Many democracies, such as Canada, have yet to initiate one at all.A country's probability of initiating a COVID-19 inquiry was positively correlated with its level of democracy, gross domestic product per capita and executive oversight, but negatively correlated with higher values of the V-Dem index of presidentialism. These correlations were significant once we controlled for multicollinearity. The vast majority of inquiries (77%) were appointed in 2020 and 2021. Most inquiries' terms of reference were relatively open-ended, with few specifically demanding an examination of policy adequacy and most urging some sort of investigation into the COVID-19 measures' collateral harms. Conclusion: Although slightly less than a third of countries in our sample have initiated inquiries into their COVID-19 response, those that have tend to mention collateral harms in their terms of reference, but not policy inadequacy. Our exploratory study should be followed by fine-grained textual analyses of individual inquiries.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
