Item type:Publication, Judicial review without shortcuts: A vindication of the knower from a pragmatist and critical theoretical approach(SAGE Publishing, 2020-12-04)In my article, I want to focus on the critique Cristina Lafont makes to expertocracy and epistocracy, mainly through the institution of judicial review, to which she dedicates chapter 7 and part of chapter 6 of her book Democracy without Shortcuts. First I will reconstruct the premises that support her arguments in favour of a democratic reading of judicial review. Then, I will pose some questions about its viability as an institution that favours the participation of the citizens in the shaping and the determination of the scope of the norms they are subjected to. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Filosofía de la religión como crítica breve ensayo sobre las tareas fundamentales de la filosofía de la religión(Universidad Femenina del Sagrado Corazón, 2022-07-05)This article uses the tension between the unconditioned and the conditioned that Kant detects in the human being and that he presents in the Critique of Pure Reason in order to account for the internal dynamics of the philosophy of religion. In this sense, the work presents the way in which Kant leaves behind dogmatic metaphysics to give way to another, which is the result of the "constriction of reason". Next, the ways in which an attempt is made to condition the unconditioned are presented, both in the case of freedom, in that of thought and in that of spiritual life. The solution to the problem that Kant detects is offered in the abandonment of rational theology and the passage to the resources of critical philosophy, phenomenology, pragmatism or critical theory. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Social criticism, dissonance, and progress: A socio-epistemic approach(SAGE Publishing, 2022-03-23)The immanent approach adopted by most contemporary representatives of the Critical Theory tradition has generally the purpose of offering a foundation for social criticism that, without relying exclusively on explicit or factually accepted principles, avoids both the potential arbitrariness of subjective judgment and the appeal to transcendent criteria. However, this project has not yet paid much attention to the socio-epistemic elements related to the intersubjective praxis of criticism. Based on this concern, I intend to explore the possibility of immanent criticism by using the epistemic category of dissonance. I will begin by showing how Davidson’s notion of irrationality can overcome the problematic separation between healthy and pathological behavior found in Festinger’s classical theory of cognitive dissonance and serve as an indicator of epistemic contradictions that can lead to social change. Thereafter, I will explain the link between these approaches and both Brandom’s inferential semantics and Honneth’s normative reconstruction. At the end of the first part, I expect to show an articulated picture of how dissonance can serve as a key for the analysis of inconsistencies present both in the belief systems and in the institutions and practices that constitute forms of life. In the second part, I will reconstruct three possible objections to this comprehensive approach in relation to the role of the individual in processes of social criticism and to the notions of progress and rationality that the approach adopts. I will analyze here what kind of meta-criterion is necessary to overcome the discomfort generated by the experience of dissonance so that it leads to social change. Taking up the Hegelian-Pragmatist idea of accumulation of experiences, I will argue that such a meta-criterion refers to the possibility of gathering and using available and non-endogenous socio-epistemic resources that allow reconfiguring the foundations of the questioned form of life. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Wittgenstein's Arguments Against Philosophical Skepticism: A Combative Therapeutic Reading of Pragmatist Inspiration(Universidad Nacional de Colombia::will be referenced::ROR-ID, 2023-01-01)The article analyzes the main intuitions of pragmatist inspiration employed by the second Wittgenstein against philosophical skepticism. Wittgenstein shares with Peirce an anti-skeptical epistemological orientation comprising three points of view: i) the rejection of philosophical doubt, ii) the commitment to certainties and fallibilism, and iii) the defense of a non-intellectualist view of belief. With James he shares a methodological approach in which he highlights the way to deconstruct and rethink philosophical problems. Knowing that epistemological orientation and this methodological approach makes clearer the therapeutic approach with which Wittgenstein fights philosophical skepticism. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Ideological Changes and Pragmatism in the Pacific Alliance(John Wiley and Sons Inc, 2023-03-01)Since its creation a decade ago, the Pacific Alliance has established itself as one of the most important regional blocs in Latin America. Its free-market orientation, clearly neoliberal, and its pragmatic decision-making strategy have been highlighted as its main strengths. This article will demonstrate that, despite the ideological changes that have taken place in its members, the Alliance will continue to be an important tool in these members' respective foreign policies. Precisely because of its pragmatism, the coming to power in Peru and Chile of governments critical of neoliberalism did not affect the development of the Pacific Alliance. Likewise, the political changes that have occurred more recently in Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru do not seem to imply a weakening of the of it. By contrast, following its pragmatic profile, the new ideological framework prevailing in the Alliance could serve to face the difficult situation and advance in bloc's process of deep integration. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, El género como herramienta crítica desde la Teoría crítica inmanente de Rahel Jaeggi(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2023-12-11)The overall goal of this paper is to approach the concept of gender from the perspective of the immanent critique proposed by Rahel Jaeggi while also considering some of the contributions made by Sally Haslanger regarding the challenges and tasks of Critical Theory. I argue immanent critique to be a solid methodological proposal that allows to address and clarify social pathologies in the contemporary context. To this end, I bring the methodology and normative considerations of immanent critique into dialogue with the anthropological analysis of the concept of gender from the works of Joan Scott and Marta Lamas. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
