Item type:Publication, Observación desde los umbrales(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2023-10-16)This visual essay is based on Walter Benjamin’s critical analysis of the model of perceptual experience inaugurated by industrial culture, which influenced the observation and understanding of reality and the production of images of the avantgarde movements of the 20th century. In this way, the photographs selected have been recorded over several years with the aim of recovering the experience of observation from the thresholds, which are understood as interstices between the public and the private, between outside and inside, between the past and the present. The final objective of this essay is to recover a contemplative spectator that from a “middle” space, can represent the decline of urban spaces built thanks to the triumph of capital and the circulation of commodities. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Contrapunto(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2023-10-16)This project questions the dialogue between photography and poetry. The image summons a poem and this, in turn, summons another image within the framework of an unfolding of questions about the conditions in which we inhabit the world. The sequence dialogues with that which concerns oneself and with that which opens and closes life in dynamics of pleasure and suffering. The idea is that both registers overdetermine each other to correspond, to produce a friction, to mark the opacity of an experience, to open lines of meaning, to point to that which has no word or to try to border on something unnamable. What is the dialogic behind the monologue of artistic production? The project emerges as an aesthetic exploration of two people who have tried to re-articulate different discourses and who have sought another way of conversing. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Visual Representations of the Loreto Landscape: From Authenticity to the Sense of Place(Universidad Cientifica del Sur, 2025-08-29)There is a significant visual tradition that, through painting and photography, has represented the Amazonian region of Loreto and the city of Iquitos. By discussing the concepts of landscape, authenticity, and sense of place, this article aims to analyze this tradition and new emerging forms of representation. To this end, canonical images have been analyzed and more than fifteen contemporary artists have been interviewed. It is argued that: i) this tradition is anchored in landscape painting, ii) that the authenticity of these images is achieved through their ability to mimic the landscape depicted, and iii) that artists have emerged who deconstruct previous landscapes, explicitly destabilizing hegemonic visual regimes. The article concludes with the need to shift from an emphasis on authenticity to an understanding of the embodied senses of place from which visual representations emerge.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Pensar es ensayar un deseo(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2025-08-13)Between October 4 and 14, 2024, I inhabited La casa de la reescritura del capítulo 2, an artistic space located in the community of La Paisanita (Córdoba, Argentina) and coordinated by Asunción Casa Editora. During my stay, I dedicated time to work on a photobook project scheduled for publication this year. The following visual essay consists of a selection of images from the project (Frases mínimas 2016-2024), photographic notes taken on-site, and a text written, during those days, as an exercise. It draws inspiration from An Attempt at Exhausting a Place in Paris by Georges Perec (2012) and seeks to exhaust a creative process in order to understand it. I present fragments of a diary. I share not with the intention of transmitting a truth that must be acquired, but with the hope that, as Andrea Soto Calderón (Pinto Veas, 2024) says, by sharing what I have rehearsed, it may give rise to each person forging their own paths in what one unfolds.1
