Item type:Publication, Conceptual metonymy in the creation of concrete nominal signs in Peruvian Sign Language: Towards a metonymic typology(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2022-01-01)This paper aims to analyze the creation of concrete nominal signs in Peruvian Sign Language (LSP, for its initials in Spanish). To do this, we have mainly collected data available online. Within the framework of cognitive linguistics, we propose a classification for the metonymic construction of concrete nouns in this signed language. As we propose, Peruvian Deaf people use either static or dynamic aspects or both combined in the creation of these signs. Based on these considerations, we establish metonymies and metonymic variants as part of the classification as an explanatory framework of LSP. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Types of initialized signs in Peruvian Sign Language (LSP): A proposal for classification(Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, 2024-06-30)The aim of this study is to classify initialized signs in Peruvian Sign Language (LSP). For this purpose, a Peruvian Deaf con-sultant participated in the research, who, based on his grammatical judgment as a LSP native signer, identified, from a set of data, those signs that were created via initialization, which were subsequently analyzed by the author of this study. The results show these signs in LSP can be classified on the basis of three criteria: 1) according to their number of letters, they are grouped into two major classes, those representing one letter and those representing more than one letter; 2) according to their origin, they are grouped into two major classes, those originating from other signs and those that do not, and 3) according to their meaning relations, they are divided into six classes: initialized signs as cases of homonymy, initialized signs as cases of synonymy, initialized signs with meanings of the subdomain > domain type, initialized signs with meanings of the domain > subdomain type, initialized signs with meanings of the subdomain > subdomain type, and initialized signs that are organized in sign families. It is concluded that Spanish has left an important imprint on word-formation in LSP. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Argument Structure in Peruvian Sign Language(Springer International Publishing, 2023-01-01)This chapter offers an analysis of Peruvian Sign Language argument structure. It argues, following insights from research on other sign languages, that there is a correlation between the type of certain classifiers and the type of predicates predicted by the Unaccusative Hypothesis. In addition, it shows how the operation Agree values the specific features of each classifier, accounting for their handshape. Furthermore, it provides evidence in favor of the assumption that externalization of sign language syntactic structures follows a layering system, where various pieces of grammatical information can be externalized simultaneously, expressing predicates and arguments in a single sign.
