Social dimension activates the usage and academic impact of Open Access publications in Andean countries: a structural modeling-based approach
    (SAGE Publishing, 2020-02-07)
Most of the altmetric research in developing countries is descriptive and has not tested models exploring relationships among article-level factors. Therefore, there is a knowledge gap on this issue. The research question for this study was the following: Social dimension is the factor that activates the usage and citation of Open Access publications in Andean countries. DOIs of Andean countries publications in PLoS journals were downloaded using (n = 3,186) using rplos, an Application Programming Interface (API) developed for R: Bolivia (n = 121), Chile (n = 1,180), Colombia (n = 826), Ecuador (n = 266), Peru (n = 622), and Venezuela (n = 171). Data modeling was carried out with Partial Least Squares – Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The hypothesized structural model accounted for at least 41% of the explained variance of citations (R2 = 0.406). Among the two associated factors, the usage made the highest contribution (at least 0.639), while the social media showed a negative contribution. The application of PLS-SEM for modeling the information-seeking behavior, at the document level, highlights the positive evidence for the path social → usage → citation, but a negative and nonsignificant association between the social dimension and citation.

Examining the mediating effect of the rural economic dynamization between the socio-environmental heritage and sustainability of protected areas
(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2024-08-01)
This study examines the mediating effect of rural economic dynamization between socio-environmental heritage and the sustainability of protected areas in the buffer zone of the Serranía de las Quinchas Regional Natural Park, located in the municipality of Otanche, Boyacá Department, Colombia. The study population includes families that are part of the productive units in this area. The methodological approach of this study is based on partial least squares structural equation modeling. The working unit was established in the regional protected areas of Colombia, specifically in the Serranía de las Quinchas Regional Natural Park. A sample of 172 participants was selected using a non-probabilistic intentional sampling method, covering academics, company representatives, social leaders, local authorities, and representatives of non-governmental organizations. The study variables were measured using a scale with satisfactory psychometric properties, which included 12 items for socio-environmental heritage, 17 items for rural economic dynamization, and 11 items for the sustainability of protected areas. These were structured into subcategories based on the ecosystem services approach (factors that demonstrate social and economic dynamics). Responses were collected using a five-point Likert scale. The sample was analyzed using SmartPLS 3.3.3 software, applying a reflective–reflective hierarchical component model to evaluate the first- and second-order relationships among the variables. The results demonstrate the importance of socio-environmental heritage for local communities as a strategic component that facilitates the rural economic dynamization of protected areas based on sustainability. This research contributes to understanding the relationship between socio-environmental heritage and the sustainability of protected areas, mediated by rural economic dynamization, highlighting the relevance of in situ conservation strategies and prospective planning of these territories to implement sustainability dynamics. It is concluded that rural economic dynamization acts as a significant mediator in the relationship between socio-environmental heritage and the sustainability of protected areas, emphasizing the need to integrate these dynamics into the management of natural resources and the promotion of sustainable development in rural communities.

Sustainable entrepreneurial orientation (SEO) and organizational performance: A gender-moderated perspective in Peru
    (Institute of Economic Sciences, 2024-11-27)
Sustainable Entrepreneurial Orientation (SEO) is an emergent concept and a complex dynamic capability that could explain the behavioral predisposition of individuals and organizations to contribute to sustainable development. This study examined the impact of decision-makers' SEO on the organizational performance of their companies. In addition, the study evaluated the moderating role of gender in the relationship between SEO and performance. The approach of the study was explanatory and non-experimental. It used a PLS-SEM technique on a sample of 121 decision-makers of micro and small enterprises operating in different sectors in Peru, a highly entrepreneurial country in Latin America. After validating the SEO measurement from the individual perspective, the results showed that SEO does affect performance. However, the moderating role of gender on the SEO-performance relationship was not empirically validated. This study contributes to the literature on sustainable entrepreneurship by confirming that the phenomenon of SEO, typically assessed at the organizational level, is also an important antecedent of organizational performance when viewed from the individual perspective. Although the moderating effect of gender was not proven, this study provides insightful directions on the SEO-performance relationship. Thus, by validating the SEO instrument that considers its components from an individual perspective, the literature on this strategic orientation has been expanded.

Corporate Entrepreneurship and Firm Performance Relationship Under the Moderating Effect of Environmental Dynamism: Replication and Extension Analysis
    (Springer, 2023-12-01)
The purpose of this research is to understand the relationship between corporate entrepreneurship and firm performance of large firms in emerging economies, with consideration of the moderating effect of environmental dynamism. This is a quantitative and cross-sectional study, utilizing a multivariate second-order hierarchical component model. The partial least squares structural equation modeling method was employed for analysis. The findings indicate a highly positive impact of entrepreneurial orientation on profitability, while corporate venturing had a high but negative impact on profitability. Regarding the growth model, it was shown that entrepreneurial orientation had a positive but statistically insignificant impact on firm growth, while corporate venturing had a highly negative but statistically insignificant impact on firm growth. Interestingly, the results indicate that environmental dynamism did not have a moderating effect in this context. This paper has significant implications for senior management decision-making regarding the importance of corporate entrepreneurship in the growth and profitability of companies. It is recommended that large companies invest in entrepreneurial orientation because of its positive influence on profitability. This research fills a gap in the literature on the relationship between corporate entrepreneurship and firm performance in large companies in emerging economies. It highlights the importance of context-specific contingencies to the impact of corporate entrepreneurship on the performance of large companies and cautions against generalizing results across different countries, even those with seemingly similar contexts. The study confirms the positive relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and corporate profitability, particularly for large companies.

Industry 5.0 and e-waste mitigation: environmental policy stringency as moderator – a mixed-methods PLS-SEM, NCA and Delphi study
    (Emerald Publishing Limited, 2026-06-18)
This study investigates the direct and interrelated impacts of Industry 5.0 pillars – Sustainability, Resilience, and Human-centricity – on three integral E-waste mitigation drivers: Collection and Recycling; Segregation and Repurposing; Generation Reduction and Material Recovery. Additionally, the moderating effect of Environmental Policy Stringency is explored. Design/methodology/approach A mixed-methods approach combines Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) and Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA) on macro-level indicators from 113 countries with micro-level insights from a two-round Delphi, triangulating statistical evidence with practitioner judgement. Findings The PLS-SEM results reveal that Sustainability exerts the strongest influence on Generation Reduction and Material Recovery, while Resilience significantly enhances Collection and Recycling. Environmental Policy Stringency positively amplifies the relationships. Notably, Human-centricity shows a modest direct effect that becomes substantial under high Environmental Policy Stringency. Complementing that, NCA uncovers key necessity and sufficiency thresholds for each Industry 5.0 pillar. Finally, Delphi provides practical insights across five refined dimensions: Technological integration; Human-centric approaches; Sustainability and circular economy; Regulatory and policy framework; Stakeholder collaboration and knowledge sharing. Practical implications The findings guide decision-makers on prioritized thresholds for resource allocation and policy design to improve E-waste outcomes across different country archetypes. Also, practical Environmental Social Governance actions for E-waste stakeholders are elaborated. Originality/value This study advances literature on sustainable E waste management in Industry 5.0 era by developing an empirically grounded mixed methods framework that integrates macro level data with micro level expert insights.

Examining the Relationship Between Organizational Ambidexterity and Firm Performance in New Technology-Based Firms
(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2026-03-01)
Organizational ambidexterity is an essential topic in management research. A growing number of studies argue that organizational ambidexterity is increasingly critical to the sustained competitive advantage of firms. However, there is less research on ambidexterity in new technology-based firms, despite the significant impact it has on local and national economies. The study examined the relationship between organizational ambidexterity and firm performance (non-economic and economic). The sample consists of 102 Colombian new technology-based firms. A latent variable design or structural equation modeling was followed. The statistical method was Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). According to the results, organizational ambidexterity is positively related to both non-economic and economic performance. Organizational ambidexterity explained 10% of the variance of the economic performance and 56% of the variance of the non-economic performance. These findings highlight the importance of organizational ambidexterity to obtain better firm performance, especially non-economic performance related to customer perception, employee satisfaction, and improvement in the quality of products and services in new technology-based firms.

Entrepreneurial traits and sustainable entrepreneurial orientation in Peru: A PLS-SEM analysis of micro and small-sized enterprises
    (Elsevier BV, 2025-12-01)
The study investigates how individual-level entrepreneurial traits influence the development of Sustainable Entrepreneurial Orientation (SEO) among decision-makers in micro and small-sized enterprises in Peru, highlighting SEO as a dynamic capability critical for advancing sustainability goals in emerging economies. Rooted in a positivist paradigm, the analysis employed the PLS-SEM technique on a sample of 121 decision-makers from micro and small-sized enterprises operating across various sectors in Peru, a highly entrepreneurial country in Latin America. The results indicate that SEO is fostered by a combination of entrepreneurial traits, including conscientiousness, resilience, self-efficacy, and cognitive reappraisal, an emotional regulation mechanism. This study represents an initial effort to assess SEO at the individual level. In terms of managerial implications, the findings suggest that micro and small-sized enterprises, along with their decision-makers and members, should be oriented toward sustainable entrepreneurship to contribute to the 2030 Agenda. To achieve this, it is essential to foster entrepreneurial traits that promote SEO as a capability influencing the predisposition of individuals and organizations toward sustainable practices. By applying a PLS-SEM model, the study identifies which entrepreneurial traits exert a stronger influence on SEO at the individual level in Peruvian micro and small-sized enterprises. By linking psychological traits to sustainability capabilities, the study offers new insights into fostering sustainable entrepreneurship in emerging economies. The findings also underscore the strategic role of universities and policy instruments in developing these traits to support progress toward the 2030 Agenda.

Case study: Relationship between gold-copper prices and mining share prices on the New York, Toronto, and Australian stock exchanges, an application of structural equation modeling
    (Springer Science+Business Media, 2025-12-01)
Public mining companies list their shares on stock exchanges. The price of these mining shares is a product of the influence of various factors that are crucial to the prices of metals. Thus, this study evaluates an explanatory model of the share prices of mining sector companies and their relationship with the prices of the metals they produce, such as gold and copper. It adopts an explanatory design with observable variables using a quantitative approach. Data were collected from the transaction summaries of three mining companies listed on the New York, Toronto, and Australian Stock Exchanges. A relationship was found between gold and copper prices and the share prices on the stock exchanges of large gold- and copper-producing mining companies. Additionally, companies that produce only copper and not gold are also influenced by the price of gold, despite not producing this metal. The share prices of medium and small mining companies were primarily due to other factors. An explanatory model was proposed and developed for the variables of interest that empirically confirmed the reviewed theoretical proposals and revealed new and important findings. Using structural equation modelling (SEM) and multiple regression allowed simultaneous analysis of the study variables, which is superior to previous approaches with more limited statistical tools that use simple correlation or regression.

Boosting Social Entrepreneurship in High School Students: An Approach from the Theory of Planned Behaviour in an Emerging Country Context
    (Taylor & Francis, 2025-01-01)
Sandro Sánchez:This study analyzes how components of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), opportunity recognition competence (ORC), and perceived values on sustainability (PVS) relate to social entrepreneurial intention (SEI) among 522 Peruvian high school students in a national entrepreneurship program. Using PLS-SEM, it found that attitudes towards entrepreneurship (ATE), perceived behavioral control (PBC), and PVS positively influence SEI. ATE also partially mediates the link between social entrepreneurial self-efficacy (SESE) and SEI. The findings inform educational strategies to foster social entrepreneurship in emerging countries like Peru, where such initiatives remain limited despite high entrepreneurial potential.
