We analyze the behavior of electricity generation groups that take investment and production decisions in a liberalized market scenario by introducing long-term contracts, in a context where there is a high level of market concentration. In this way, a dynamic deterministic model of imperfect competition (with open loop strategies) is used, which is solved using a system of complementary equations through GAMS software, in order to provide simulations that show the impacts of the different market structures (monopoly, oligopoly with competitive fringe, oligopoly (Cournot) and perfect competition) on the decisions of investment and production, assuming the existence of two segment loads (base and peak) and considering the existence of two technologies to be used for the electric power dispatch (hydraulic and thermal) with 2011 data for 10-year planning horizon. The results show us that although there may be indications of market power in the different analysis scenarios, there is a significant positive effect on investment in capacity, production by technology, and prices per segment loads. For an oligopolistic market with a competitive fringe, it is observed that by contracting 70% of hydraulic energy and 66% of thermal energy in the base year, investment in capacity with hydraulic technology increases by 7.18% (overinvestment) and with thermal technology decreases by 2.27% (underinvestment); while production, with hydraulic technology, increases by 3.67%, while under thermal technology, 4.58%. The price in base load decreases by 9.83% and in peak load, 4.45%. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Departamento Académico de Ciencias de la Gestión, 2022-11-25)The article aims to describe some optimization problems and their application in managerial and financial decision-making at organizations. This description is made from two approaches, first from the perspective of data analysis, where we see that these types of problems are in the stage of prescriptive analysis and, secondly, from a more formal or mathematical perspective where we see that they are part of the branch of analytical models. This type of analytical model can be proposed through three basic components: a target variable, decision or control variables and constraints. In this context, various application cases are reviewed and, finally, we will explain with a simple example, the use of the Solver function of Excel for the resolution of this type of problems through the simplex method. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Analytics under uncertainty: a novel method for solving linear programming problems with trapezoidal fuzzy variables(Springer Science+Business Media, 2021-11-23)Linear programming (LP) has long proved its merit as the most flexible and most widely used technique for resource allocation problems in various fields. To solve an LP problem, we have traditionally considered crisp values for the parameters, which are unrealistic in real-world decision-making under uncertainty. The fuzzy set theory has been used to model the imprecise parameter values in LP problems to overcome this shortcoming, resulting in a fuzzy LP (FLP) problem. This paper proposes a new method for solving fuzzy variable linear programming (FVLP) problems in which the decision variables and resource vectors are fuzzy numbers. We show how to use the standard simplex algorithm to solve this problem by converting the fuzzy problem into a crisp one once a linear ranking function is chosen. The novelty of the proposed model resides in that it requires less effort on fuzzy computations as opposed to the existing fuzzy methods. Furthermore, to solve the FVLP problem using the existing methods, fuzzy arithmetic operations and the solution to fuzzy systems of equations are required. By contrast, only arithmetic operations of real numbers and the solution to crisp systems of equations are required to solve the same problem with the method proposed in this study. Finally, a transportation case study in the coal industry is presented to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed algorithm. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
