Item type:Publication, Monitoreo de aguas residuales y evaluación del cumplimiento de valores máximos admisibles (VMA) en colectores primarios del área de drenaje de una planta de tratamiento(2023-07-26)The physicochemical monitoring and evaluation of wastewater in the critical drainage areas corresponding to the Puente Piedra WWTP, Lima, was carried out. For this purpose, the geographical position, the number of Non-Domestic Users (NDUs) and the identification of NDUs with high wastewater discharges were considered. In the critical areas, wastewater monitoring points were established, corresponding to sewage inlets, where quality was evaluated through compliance with the Maximum Allowable Values (MAV) of D.S. 021-2009- VIVIENDA. The monitoring plan covered a control period of 8 hours with spot monitoring carried out every 2 hours. At monitoring points BZ-70651 and BZ-59124, excess AMVs were found for pH (>14), BOD5, COD, TSS, oils and grease due to the presence of textile and paper manufacturing industries; at point BZ-212339 there was an excess of BOD5, COD, TSS, oils and grease, and sedimentable solids as a result of organic material released by businesses, restaurants and domestic users; at point BZ-46847 there was no excess of AMVs; and at point BZ-212344 BOD5 was exceeded due to discharges from businesses, domestic users and industries. It is recommended to extend the application of the regulations, considering the biological analysis parameters, improve UND control in the drainage area, establish continuous monitoring stations and replicate the described procedure to other areas. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Estimation of Indoor 222Rn Concentration in Lima, Peru Using LR-115 Nuclear Track Detectors Exposed in Different Modes(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2023-06-01)Radon is the main source of natural radioactivity, and its measurement is considered extremely important in radioprotection, given its relationship with the occurrence of lung cancer. In the last two years, measurements of this radioactive gas were carried out in Lima considering a grid of 5 km (Formula presented.) and the population density to determine the number of measurements to be carried out. Cellulose nitrate nuclear track detectors exposed in bare mode and diffusion chamber mode were used to estimate (Formula presented.) Rn concentrations. In diffusion chamber mode, non-commercial monitors and commercial monitors were used. The monitoring results are presented for 43 districts of the Lima Province whose population is approximately ten million inhabitants occupying a total area of 2655.15 km (Formula presented.). Measurements were made obtaining an average concentration of 49 Bq·m (Formula presented.) using bare detectors and 66 Bq·m (Formula presented.) using non-commercial diffusion chambers. Average concentrations obtained by both detector exposure modes were below the maximum concentration recommended by the WHO. A radon ((Formula presented.) Rn) map was also obtained as a visual representation of the (Formula presented.) Rn levels in the Lima province using inverse distance weighting (IDW) interpolation. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, A Novel Induction Heater for Sintering Metal Compacts with a Hybrid Material Extrusion Device(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2023-07-01)The traditional sintering of metallic components shaped via Material Extrusion Additive Manufacturing (MEAM) is a time-consuming process that involves sophisticated energy-intensive heating systems. This work describes a novel induction heater capable of efficiently tailoring temperature profiles to densify MEAM powder compacts. In situ sintering within the same device is achieved indirectly by heating a graphite crucible, whereby the heater is based on an inverter with a half-bridge topology using the Zero-Voltage Switching (ZVS) technique. The system comprises a bank of capacitors that, in conjunction with a work coil, form a parallel-topology resonant circuit. This design allows the inverter to be used as a current amplifier, thereby increasing its efficiency to deliver an output power of up to 5 kW. The device operates at a 62.86 kHz resonant frequency, achieving a 2.01 mm penetration depth and a 1365.7 °C crucible temperature with only 1.313 kW of consumption, providing an increase in efficiency compared to other low-cost systems. Equipped with a feedback circuit, it offers five distinct control techniques that enable the self-tuning of the crucible temperature. The results indicate that the Cohen–Coon tuning method is more robust compared to the Ziegler–Nichols, damped, no overshoot, and mixed techniques. Sintering with this novel induction heater provides an alternative method for reducing the processing times for MEAM geometries, paving the way for increased efficiency and reduced energy consumption. Circuit diagrams, simulations, and experimental data on the temperature, time, and output voltage are provided in this article.
