Item type:Publication, Dibujando el rostro de Lima: el mapa de Perrottet y los imaginarios de modernidad del siglo XX(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2022-12-14)This article is part of the research framework of my master's thesis entitled Los mapas de Lima: construcción de representaciones de la ciudad a través de sus planos (1977-2021), which reflects on the construction of representations of Lima through its maps, around the idea of "modernity" and was a reference for the urban changes that occurred throughout the twentieth century. These changes derived from historical processes, such as the rural migrations of the seventies and eighties, fragmented the physical and social organization of the city and placed some in privileged positions and others in marginal positions. lt that context, the first street guide of Lima for commercial use was created by the Swiss Oliver Perrottet in 1977 as a contribution to the process of "modernization" of the city, which was conveniently used by the State and Lima's elite to reproduce an ideological discourse around their ideals of "modernity. By means of this emblematic map of Lima, it will be revealed that although maps are seen as objective tools of cartography, they also act as devices of power and construct representations of the city that contribute to the formation of urban imaginaries that normalize marginalization, injustice, relationships of inequality and a sense of not belonging to one's own city. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
In a context of constant peri-urban transformation as a result of adaptation to new demands and expansion of urban capital in strategic investment areas, the possibility of shaping the city appears as one of the main guidelines for local development in Cusco as the city responds to systems of relationships and complementary processes of action and reaction. In this sense, within a framework of premeditated transformation, in the case of Urubamba (Cusco), an area that has seen its tourist potential increase in recent years, this work aims to analyze the advertising of two pages of lots sales as a means of crystallizing the strategies adopted by private capital to promote and generate value within those opportunity spaces. For this, we collected information from 10 advertisements of ¿A dónde vivir? and Urbania.pe carried out in 2022. It is found that there are four types of land promotion strategies, i) provision of basic services and ii) luxury services, both framed in the notion of “strategic beautification” both as complementary strategies; iii) the tourism investment model and iv) formality-legality, central components of urban transformation within spaces for sale and which are the common denominator in purchase promotion strategies. As part of the studies on peri-urbanization of agricultural land from a more subjective approach to analyze the formation of land prices, it is concluded that the generation of “competitive” rents between urban and rural lands is a central element for the demarcation of its use. Likewise, the use of these strategies are the reflection of a type of collective imagination about the area, which, in turn, contributes to the shared construction of the marketable value of the offered land. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Memoria y olvido en imaginarios y paisajes urbanos(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2025-12-16)This essay explores how memory/remembering and oblivion/forgetting shape urban landscapes and collective imaginaries. Throughout history, societies have been molded by oral, written, and artistic traditions, as well as by spatial experiences and perceptions that foster attachments to place. In a continuous feedback process, the presence and absence of memory transform the built environment. Drawing on a comparative perspective between global contexts and two case studies in Lima, an international exposition known as La Feria del Hogar and the La Herradura seaside resort, we examine how memory, or its absence, influences city-making and the ways we imagine urban spaces.1
