- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Restorative memories, subjugated knowledge, and tensions within Mercedes Cabello de Carbonera, Clorinda Matto de Turner and Virginia Gil de Hermoso’s writings on war(Universidad Nacional de Rosario - Facultad de Humanidades y Artes, Escuela de Historia, 2022-09-01)This paper analyzes the texts (narrative and essay) of three Latin American women writers from the turn of the century: Mercedes Cabello de Carbonera (Moquegua, 1845- Lima, 1909), Clorinda Matto de Turner (Cusco, 1852- Buenos Aires, 1909) and Virginia Gil de Hermoso (Coro, 1856-1912). Amid their differences, these works converge in the topic of war. Moreover, they shed light on subjugated knowledge that fosters alternative forms of heroism, while making feasible the political agency of subaltern subjects (women, indigenous peoples, and farmers) and the advent of counter normative masculinities. By doing so, they not only confront the patriarchal system, but also the hegemonic projects of nation and modernity, portrayed in these texts as decadent and failed. Thus, they pave the way for the articulation of restorative memories that resist and confront the hegemonic historical discourse, while promoting paths for these minorized groups’ transit into modernity. However, an intersectional reading of these texts, with their claims and vindications, also reveals the silences and tensions of their agendas. Delving into these problematics contributes to a critical perspective of women writings on war in the turn of the century. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Champions of patriotism: la Perricholi in the voice of María Jesús Alvarado (1935)(Universidad Austral de Chile, 2022-01-01)The paper proposes an approach to the radio soap opera La Perricholi (1935), written by the Peruvian feminist María Jesús Alvarado. It seeks to show how the character of Micaela Villegas was used by the female author to intervene in the debate on political rights, access to education and paid work for women. This woman writer uses as her main strategy to position herself an alternative construction of this historical figure that had been read from many angles. At the same time, the dominant sentimental regime intervenes and proposes new criteria for the moral evaluation of female citizens. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, ¿“Feminismo razonable” o “nuevo cinismo”? Encuentros y desencuentros entre Judith Butler y Susan Haack(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2024-12-10)The aim of this research is to make possible a dialogue between Susan Haack’s philosophy of science and Judith Butler’s queer theory. In order to do so, we will, in the first place, talk about the most important events in the history of feminism. Secondly, we will how this could have led to the emergence of queer theory. We will then take the problem of the body and of objective evidence as a guide for our analysis, in the third section of Butler’s position and in the fourth of Haack’s. As a conclusion, we will try to propose a dialogue between the two by giving a concrete example: the case of intersexual people. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Beyond seeing and listening: Children born from conflict-related sexual violence(Oxford University Press, 2024-11-01)This essay discusses some points made by the three books under review regarding how children born of conflict-related sexual violence have not been seen and listened to by those working in the field of transitional justice. To this end, it explores some of the reasons behind this oversight, including generalized assumptions about their relationships with their mothers, families and communities. It also discusses some of the limitations of the current transitional justice framework to address the plight of these children. Finally, the essay emphasizes the importance of analyzing more deeply the particular context in which these children are embedded. To this end it draws from some of the frameworks presented in the three books under review, which allow for a more capacious comprehension of the situation of children born of conflict-related sexual violence. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Women’s Solidarity as Feminism in Action: The Concept of Sisterhood (Sororidad) in #LasRespondonas, a Facebook Group in Peru(Taylor & Francis, 2023-11-15)Women in Peru are exposed on a daily basis to gender violence and exclusion. Several feminist groups have used social media to share information, debate, denounce, organize, and provide help to victims. This study analyzes the meaning of female solidarity, sisterhood or sororidad (using the Spanish term), as a feminist political concept among members of one feminist Facebook group. We reviewed how various feminist and sisterhood concepts are clustered together in group communications by analyzing publications and comments and even interviewing key current and former group members. We find the concept of sororidad to be central to feminist practice as it is a bridge between theory and politics. Moreover, it is viewed as a kind of ‘internal repertoire’ of the feminist movement, as a way to interact with other movement members (or comrades, partners, or sisters).
