Item type:Publication, Multi-objective optimization of nutritional, environmental and economic aspects of diets applied to the Spanish context(MDPI, 2020-11-01)Current food consumption patterns must be revised in order to improve their sustainability. The nutritional, environmental, and economic consequences of these dietary patterns must be taken into consideration when diet guidelines are proposed. This study applied a systematic optimization methodology to define sustainable dietary patterns complying with nutritional, environmental, and economic issues. The methodology was based on a multi-objective optimization model that considered a distance-to-target approach. Although the three simultaneous objectives (maximal nutritional contribution, minimal greenhouse gas emissions, and minimal costs) could be divergent, the proposed model identified the optimal intake of each food product to achieve the maximal level of nutritional, environmental, and economic diets. This model was applied to six different eating patterns within the Spanish context: one based on current food consumption and five alternative diets. The results revealed that dietary patterns with improved nutritional profiles and reduced environmental impacts could be defined without additional costs just by increasing the consumption of vegetables, fruits, and legumes, while reducing the intake of meat and fish. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Green two-echelon closed and open location-routing problem: Application of NSGA-II and MOGWO metaheuristic approaches(Springer Science+Business Media, 2022-06-02)Nowadays organizations outsource transportation of goods or services to reduce cost which leads to a particular type of problem called open location-routing. Also, each logistic organization possesses a limited number of specific vehicles that may not be enough in certain circumstances. This issue indicates the importance of simultaneously considering both open and closed routs. On the other hand, the growing concerns about the detrimental environmental impacts of human activities reveal the necessity of paying attention to environmental issues in logistics. In this study, a bi-objective mathematical programming model is proposed for two-echelon close and open location-routing problem (2E-COLRP) including two echelons of factories, depots and customers to minimize costs and CO2 emissions. The proposed model finds the optimal routs, optimal number of vehicles and facilities as well as the locations of facilities. The augmented epsilon constraint method is used as an exact method to solve the small-sized problems. Due to complexity of model, two metaheuristic algorithms named MOGWO and NSGA-II are utilized to tackle the problems. The efficiency of two aforementioned algorithms is evaluated in terms of several indices considering 22 problem instances with various sizes. The results show that MOGWO performs better than NSGA-II. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Characteristics of the leaders of social and environmental enterprises in Latin America and the relationship with the success of their businesses(Emerald Publishing, 2024-07-30)This study aims to understand the leadership characteristics of founders of social and environmental enterprises in Latin America who have achieved business success with a focus on sustainability despite difficult social, economic, political and even health contexts in which they live. Design/methodology/approach: This nonexperimental research is a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study. Twenty-one in-depth interviews were conducted with social/environmental entrepreneurs of the Kunan Network (an organization that groups the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Peru). Findings: The study analyzes the leadership profile and characteristics of entrepreneurs who have created profitable businesses with a social/environmental focus that solve relevant social problems and contribute to improving people’s quality of life and caring for the environment. Research limitations/implications: Although only 21 business leaders with outstanding participation and positive social and environmental impact were included in this study, they were supported and recognized by the Kunan Network. Originality/value: The study contributed to the conceptualization and understanding of the profile of leaders of social and environmental enterprises, whose main challenges are to solve social or environmental problems of society and contribute to improving the quality of life of people and the environment. Knowing the profile of these entrepreneurs generates value to the knowledge of the subject and contributes to understand and propose strategies to improve the ecosystem of social-environmental entrepreneurship in emerging countries such as Peru. This will contribute to the creation of relationships and alliances with various social actors: public, private, third sector, academia, among others, for the management and promotion of sustainable business. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Esto permitió construir recomendaciones de política a través del contraste con el marco teórico.2 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, La Pampilla oil spill in central coastal Peru: A multi-dimensional damage assessment(Elsevier BV, 2026-06-01)Oil spills represent significant environmental disasters with far-reaching impacts on marine ecosystems, coastal communities, and local economies. There is a need to assess in a holistic manner the impacts of oil spills around the world. Thus, the main objective of the study was to extend the multi-dimensional damage assessment (MDDA) framework to marine oil spill disasters by incorporating ecosystem quality impact categories alongside traditional human health and socioeconomic indicators. The La Pampilla oil spill in Lima, Peru, in January 2022 was used to apply the MDDA methodology to quantify the environmental, economic and social damage caused. Data were obtained from multiple sources, including Peruvian government agencies, academic studies, and affected community organizations. Damage endpoints were converted to disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) following established MDDA protocols. Results show that economic damage represented the highest burden (18,925 DALYs), followed by social damage (14,872 DALYs). Environmental damage, however, was found to be marginal as compared to the other two dimensions, unlike other disaster events measured with MDDA in scientific literature (e.g., flooding events). The fishing sector experienced complete paralysis affecting 5,000 artisanal fishermen, while tourism losses resulted from the closure of 48 beaches. Total economic losses reached USD 4,500 million, representing approximately 2% of Peru's 2022 GDP. The MDDA framework proves effective in capturing the multi-dimensional nature of the damage derived from oil spill disasters, revealing that at moderate intensities coastal community livelihoods and mental health constitute the primary burden of marine oil spill disasters.2
