Gobierno Corporativo y Corrupción Empresarial en las Empresas Estatales
(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2022-12-12)
Currently, according to the latest survey of perception on corruption in Perú corruption is the second biggest problem for the country, the first being citizen insecurity. In recent years, Peru has experienced many corruption scandals closely related to private sector companies, such as the Lava Jato, Club de la Construcción cases, among others; where the participation of public companies under private law such as Petro Perú stands out. For this reason, it is proposed to promote tools such as the governance of the principles of good corporate governance as a mechanism for the prevention of corporate corruption.

A cracked public administration in Peru: How “Vacunagate” has shaken the foundations of an already damaged society
    (EAFIT University, 2022-12-12)
While crises are ubiquitous in Latin America, due to its geographical characteristics as well as its turbulent business environment, countries such as Peru have also extreme rates of corruption and deep institutional weakness. These factors, taken together, undermine any attempt of national governments or society’s collective efforts towards achieving sustainability. This paper aims to analyze the “Vacunagate” scandal that occurred in Peru during the first negotiations of the vaccination process against COVID-19, using a case study method, and focusing our discussion from the Agency Theory as well as from leadership and institutional perspectives. The results of the analysis emphasize how the “Vacunagate” event generated relevant constraints towards the achievement of the SDG 16, and its specific targets related to provide justice for all, deal with organized crime, reduce corruption, and create accountable institutions. In addition, the study provides insights and implications for organizations in Peru that would have to operate under a turbulent business environment, considering a business-as-usual corruption and a weak institutional context.

Corporate structure and prevention: The three lines model applied to Latin American companies
    (Virtus Interpress, 2024-01-01)
The economic environment in which enterprises operate is increasingly harsh and complex, making business more complex, volatile and uncertain. This context requires a change in the management model based on the three fundamental pillars of governance, risk management and regulatory compliance. In this sense, the presentation of the three-line model is considered particularly useful, as it has become one of the most recognized management tools internationally due to its flexibility and adaptability. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the current literature on this management model and then analyze its applicability in business practice through a case study. In particular, the analysis of four companies in the Ibero-American energy sector (Petrobras, Codelco, Ecopetrol, and Iberdrola) reveals that, although the adaptation of the model is generally comprehensive and universal in all aspects, its flexibility is very Large allows adaptation to any organization’s needs and structure. Finally, the study draws some conclusions weighing the theoretical development of the three-line model and its applicability and usefulness to managers as well as researchers and legislators who want to strengthen national business structures.

Emotional intelligence and ethical behaviour in mining executives: the mediating effect of trust-building
    (Cogent OA, 2025-01-01)
Executives in the mining industry are faced with complex ethical challenges involving the responsible management of resources, environmental impacts, and community relations. As such, it is crucial to understand and develop strategies to enhance ethical behaviour in the mining industry. However, empirical evidence on ethical behaviour among executives in this industry remains limited. This study attempts to address this research gap by analysing the mediating effect of trust-building on the relationship between emotional intelligence and ethical behaviour in mining executives. Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was used with a sample of 115 executives at Peru's largest mining projects, finding that trust-building has a partial mediating effect on the relationship between emotional intelligence and ethical behaviour. Besides adding to the existing academic literature, the results will be useful to mining executives, and possibly to executives in other extractive industries, to focus their efforts in enhancing trust-building to have a larger effect on ethical behaviour in their projects. Furthermore, these results may help when managing relations with different stakeholders, defining and implementing concrete strategies to reinforce ethical behaviour among executives in the mining industry, and probably in other extractive industries, by paying more attention to enhancing emotional intelligence and boosting trust-building in their top and middle-managers and in the workplace.
