Business innovation and critical success factors in the era of digital transformation and turbulent times
(Cognitione Foundation for the Dissemination of Knowledge and Science, 2021-01-01)
Explore what entrepreneurship and success factors can help drive business to resilience and stability and achieve competitive advantage through innovation in different countries and business realities in the era of digital transformation and turbulent times. METHODOLOGY: Based on the narrative literature review, we present research findings concerning new strategies and outlooks for business innovation in times of many unknowns. Each organization wants to find its way to gain success and create its unique business model, which can capture value creation and innovativeness and be more adaptive, resilient, and stable in critical moments and sustainable over time. FINDINGS: The articles presented in this issue explore the essential factors of business innovation and success in different organizations and the environments in which these businesses function. IMPLICATIONS FOR THEORY AND PRACTICE: This article synthesizes the presented research field’s importance and relevance, connecting its theoretical background with practical research. Recommendations and implications for future trends of this research stream might also be helpful for professionals and academicians. ORIGINALITY AND VALUE: The novel studies presented in this issue were done in five different (developing and developed) countries and business sectors that present human-based and non-human-based factors as crucial factors needed to empower business transformation in a complex world. Each group of elements is essential in business success, and their components are interdependent. We need to look at the interactions and interdependencies of their components in a dynamic and network form and cannot simplify the reality, focusing only on one group of business components and ignoring the other. These unique studies provide a valuable outlook to establish dynamic, adaptive business pathways towards a sustainable and resilient organizational future and propose future research paths needed to execute structural changes in businesses.

Human development based on the competitiveness of the Peruvian region of Ancash, 2008–2021
    (Emerald Publishing, 2024-04-23)
The study set out to understand how the regional competitiveness index (RCI) in the department of Ancash related to the human development index (HDI) from 2008 to 2021. For a more complete understanding of the findings, each component or dimension of the RCI was analyzed. Ancash's HDI and its competitiveness index over a 14-year period were used as the population for this applied, longitudinal, descriptive-correlational study, which was based on secondary data extracted from the "Instituto Nacional de Estadistica e Inforḿatica" (INEI) and business school of the Pontificia Universidad Cat olica del Peŕu (CENTRUM) statistical databases. Multiple linear regression was used to find the relationship. The research found a strong and positive correlation between regional competitiveness and human development between 2008 and 2021. No correlations were found between the HDI and the health, education, employment, or institutional dimensions of regional competitiveness, but direct and significant correlations were established between the economic environment and the HDI and between the infrastructure dimension and the HDI.

Fuzzy Algorithm Applied to Factors Influencing Competitiveness: A Case Study of Brazil and Peru Through Affinities Theory
(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2023-11-08)
Innovation plays a crucial role in the economy of nations worldwide. In Latin America, countries foster competitiveness through public and private incentives to support innovation. Moreover, entrepreneurship incentives seek to improve countries’ performance, although factors such as low business growth rates and informality can compromise it. Despite the efforts, there are several difficulties in achieving competitiveness, and few studies in developing countries. Therefore, the article explores the relationship between the factors that influence competitiveness, especially the role of innovation and entrepreneurship in Brazil and Peru. The research uses quantitative-qualitative methodology through modeling and simulation and a case study. The authors use the Affinities Theory to verify the relationship between the indicators that make up the competitiveness landscape and its most significant and attractive factors, adapting the methodology established by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) World Competitiveness ranking. As a result, this algorithm allows us to know the relationships between five factors of economic attractiveness and four competitiveness indicators. As its main contributions, the study advances the frontier of knowledge about innovation and entrepreneurship, as few studies explore competitiveness in developing countries. Also, it offers a detailed explanation of the application of this algorithm, allowing researchers to reproduce this methodology in other scenarios. Practically, it might support policymakers in formulating development strategies and stimuli for business competitiveness. In addition, academic and business leaders can strengthen university-business collaboration with applied research in innovation and entrepreneurship. One limitation would be the number of countries participating in the research. The authors suggest future lines of research.

Responsible digital innovation: the new business challenges in the digital era
    (Emerald Publishing Limited, 2025-08-25)
This study explores the concept of responsible digital innovation and the challenges faced by the business sector and academia in the new digital era. It is based on the need for companies to implement sustainable digital innovation models that integrate the generation of shared social values as a competitive strategy in a highly agile digital environment. Design/methodology/approach The methodology consists of a systematic review of the literature covering the period from 2010 to 2024, which allowed us to identify the relationships between various concepts and research gaps. Findings The debate on responsible digital innovation encompasses multiple levels and actors. The connection between digital innovation and social impacts highlights a broad area of research that brings together the private sector, academia and the government. Research limitations/implications The literature review focuses on the relationships among innovation, digital innovation, corporate social responsibility (CSR), responsible innovation, competitiveness and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study primarily included Q1 and Q2 articles published in English, allowing for a more targeted analysis within the scope of the research objective. Originality/value This research contributes to the discussion on responsible digital innovations and their practical implications for companies managing new competitive business models focusing on sustainability and shared value generation. It also offers implications for policymakers who must foster innovation for competitiveness, safeguarding social, environmental and ethical interests, and for the Academia, which faces the challenge of establishing new programs and approaches that integrate ethics and social responsibility and respond to new skill demands in a context marked by digitalization. This research emphasizes the need to delve deeper into this topic with the active participation of academia, the business sector and regulators or public policymakers.

Dynamic capabilities and digital innovation: pathways to competitive advantage through responsible innovation
    (Taylor & Francis, 2025-01-01)
In a dynamic global context towards digitalization, and with increasing social demands, companies face the challenge of remaining competitive. This study empirically validates the relationship between dynamic capabilities (digital orientation, digital capability, and willingness to change), responsible innovation, and competitiveness by integrating them into a competitive and sustainable model. This model allows companies to identify innovation strategies for sustainability that are aligned with the concept of innovability. Guided by the dynamic capabilities theory for achieving a sustainable competitive advantage, this study applies a structural equation model using data from 216 private Ecuadorian technology companies. The results validate responsible innovation as a mediator between digital innovation and competitiveness and confirms dynamic capabilities as key facilitators of digital and responsible innovation and their joint impact on competitiveness. This research contributes to business practice highlighting the need for companies to redefine their digital innovation management strategies aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
