Automation of the wet disinfection process during the production of suture threads from natural collagen, catgut
    (2021-09-28)
Surgical sutures are the simplest yet most used medical devices in modern healthcare, they are the preferred type because of its biocompatibility and ability to be resorbed. Bovine intestinal fibers are converted into catgut that serves as the starting material of absorbable surgical suture threads. The mechanical and control subsystems of industrial equipment were designed to automate disinfection of bovine intestinal fibers to increase efficiency during the wet process stage of disinfection without altering its fiber quality. A turbulent regime of the water and disinfectant mix was designed, implemented and validated, this automatic aeration system in the disinfection thank increased the process efficiency by reducing the time used to handle a load of fibers by 50%, and the working time of the personnel involved in the process was reduced from 220 to 20 minutes. Tests on the final product showed that LAL levels comply with what is established by the American Pharmacopoeia: USP <85> Bacterial Endotoxin Test and USP <161> Medical Devices - Bacterial and Pyrogen Endotoxin Test. These results indicate that the disinfected catgut using the proposed automated system complies with all mechanical quality control tests.

Optimal plant growth through thermo mechatronic analysis
(International Institute of Informatics and Cybernetics, 2022-08-01)
This work is described as a proposal to apply modern control techniques and automation tools for optimal plant growth, also it was based on key agricultural strategies that were developed by ancient civilizations such as the Inca Empire. Many of them ancient techniques including the Inca engineering of andenes were forgotten or set aside through time. In this research, however, some of these key techniques are revisited to analyze and evaluate optimal plant growth using sensors and actuators that were not available in ancient civilizations. In addition, predictive and adaptive mathematical models are used for plant growth analysis of thermodynamic parameters such as temperature, humidity and potential of Hydrogen (pH). Furthermore, there were compared performances of sensors (electromechanical sensors) with designed sensors that were based in nanostructures, because of better study of the plant growth techniques.

Are We Nearly There Yet? New Technology Adoption and Labor Demand in Peru
    (Oxford University Press, 2023-08-01)
Forecasts about the effects of new technologies on labor demand are generally pessimistic. However, little is known about the current level of technology adoption and its effect on labor demand, particularly in developing countries. This paper exploits a national representative employer survey and administrative data from Peru to offer empirical evidence in this regard. Our results show that the adoption of new technologies by firms is still incipient in the country. However, when adopted, they slightly reduce the demand for workers in the medium term, particularly those in high-skilled and non-routine occupations, with a temporary job contract, and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Transformation of International Trade and Marketing: A Review of the Impact of Artificial Intelligence and Automation
    (World Scientific, 2026-02-01)
This paper examines the current and future trends in integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation in marketing and international trade. The main objective is understanding how these technologies transform these fields, identifying the predominant discussions, methodologies employed, and reported results since 2010. To this end, a rigorous and systematic scoping review was conducted using the Scopus and Google Scholar databases. A total of 35 studies published between 2010 and 2023 were selected following a multi-phase screening process based on thematic alignment, methodological rigor, and publication quality. Only peer-reviewed journal articles and conference proceedings published in English were considered. Studies included had to explicitly address AI and automation in marketing or international trade, while descriptive reports or articles lacking analytical depth were excluded. The findings show a trend towards qualitative approaches in studies, emphasising theoretical and conceptual understanding over generating new data. Key themes identified include efficiency in cross-border e-commerce, user knowledge, adaptation to the era of big data and its effects on logistics, and regulatory challenges in the face of AI. These findings underscore the growing importance of AI and automation in marketing and international trade, highlighting opportunities and challenges for businesses and governments in a globalised environment.
