EEPI: instrument for the evaluation of proximity environments to include people without autonomy in Lima
    (Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, 2021-01-01)
To design proximity environments, criteria from the perspective of professionals and labo-ratory experiments are used. However, the opinions of citizens have not really been taken into account, the different types of people have not been analyzed simultaneously, and groups with visual and cognitive disabilities have not been included. For this reason, to evaluate urban spaces from a holistic and inclusive perspective, the EEPI instrument is pre-sented. The EEPI can be used in buildings, sidewalks, squares, and pedestrian crossings. It includes boys, girls, older adults, and people with disabilities (motor, visual, and cognitive) and takes into account their opinions, it is based on a mixed approach, it is useful and easy to apply and transfer, and it also includes physical, personal, and social criteria. The EEPI is also structured on two levels: planning and management. Moreover, like any instrument, it is subject to improvement and can accommodate other aspects.

A comparison of accessibility assessment tools in the inspection of an informative government website on the situational status of COVID-19
    (AHFE International, 2022-01-01)
Accessibility is considered a highly relevant quality aspect of software products. However, few websites are designed considering minimum standards that make applications accessible to all people regardless of their capabilities and abilities. Considering that there is a representative percentage of people who experience some form of disability, it is a requirement that government websites that provide information to their citizens meet an appropriate level of compliance. In this study, we report the results obtained from using three accessibility evaluation tools to examine an informative Peruvian government website on the situational status of COVID-19. In addition, the results were compared to determine the differences between the tools. Despite covering the same WCAG standard, the findings demonstrate that the tools evaluate different aspects. Likewise, despite being a government site and being required to comply with a minimum standard of accessibility, the evaluated website lacks some attributes to be accessed by any citizen.

Accessibility and the ‘everyday mobility–work–household’ triad: An exploration during the COVID-19 crisis in low-income peripheries of Lima and Bogotá
    (Taylor & Francis, 2024-03-22)
How do people make decisions on where, when, and how to commute? And how did the pandemic crisis affect their commuting patterns? Based on exploratory interviews in Lima and family chronicles collected in Bogotá during 2020; and a second round of interviews in six low-income areas in the peripheries of these two cities during 2021, this article offers a panoramic view of the changes experienced in low-income neighbourhoods and their families during these recent years of pandemic. These changes bring to light the role of intra-household arrangements regarding mobility and accessibility. We suggest that mobility and accessibility can better be understood on a more systemic level (influenced by intra-household arrangements), as a collective phenomenon (based on the household’s resources and the household’s needs), and even as a collective decision-making process.
