Item type:Publication, Cybersociety and university sustainability: The challenge of holistic restructuring in universities in Chile, Spain, and Peru(MDPI, 2020-07-02)The global challenge of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals present a framework of opportunities, in which universities must respond to the demands of a sustainable social organisation by addressing the issues of quality education, the participation and inclusion of different sectors, and the need to promote university social responsibility. In response to this situation, we examine three experiences that highlight the reorganisation demanded at each of the three organisational levels: (1) Macro: the need for cooperation between different universities in Chile’s “macrocampus”; (2) Meso: the organisation and running of faculties in light of the challenges to renew curriculums with the experience implemented by the Social Sciences Faculty of Pablo de Olavide University in Spain; and, (3) Micro: the integration of students and commitment to the needs of the social surroundings, with the E-QUIPU experience implemented at Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) in Peru. The report we present is based on a case study, and the findings and conclusions lead us to propose a new holistic-organisational paradigm to facilitate the sustainability of universities. The results of the restructuring allowed us to conduct a meta-evaluation of the sustainability of organisations within a problematic situation (COVID-19), which tested the results of the restructuring objective of Cybersociety.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Does the 2030 Agenda generate happiness? A longitudinal approach to the SDGs vs. the wellbeing of the world(Conscientia Beam, 2024-01-01)This research aims to determine the relationship between the SDGs and the happiness of people in 40 developed and 114 developing countries since the 2030 Agenda initiative was implemented back in 2015. No literature measures such an impact and it is essential to start the debate on the matter. This study determined that the relationship between the SDGs and the world's happiness among the time horizons analyzed (2015-2021) is negligible through a set of panel data and multiple linear regressions. There is much greater structural happiness that comes from sources other than the 2030 agenda. However, although most of these relationships are negative, the classification of the statistically significant SDGs into Maslow's pyramid offers a novel view that allows prioritizing taking actions first on those SDGs associated with the most basic needs of people. This study offers opportunities for future research into why an initiative such as the 2030 Agenda which seeks to generate well-being has the opposite effect and proposes that the initiatives associated with the 2030 Agenda be first linked to the SDGs at the bottom of Maslow's pyramid and that they progressively ascend as positive correlations are achieved between the SDGs and people's well-being. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, La débil integración de lo ambiental en el Perú(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2025-06-13)In 21st-century Peru, decisions about development —even at high levels of government— still do not fully consider the environmental dimension. This occurs despite progress in environmental institutions since the 1990s, and despite official discourses and instruments that are ostensibly aligned with sustainable development. This omission has been especially evident at critical moments in the last decade, when existing environmental regulation has been weakened. This essay proposes that the policy coherence framework for sustainable development (PCSD) —still rarely used domestically— makes it possible to identify different points where the integration of environmental issues into development decisions needs to be strengthened. In this sense, it is argued that the most urgent pending agenda refers not only to the environmental policy space, but also to points in the policy process where coherence between the major policy spaces (economic, social, environmental) and coherence between national decisions and the country’s international commitments can be ensured.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Evaluating sustainable development goals through market capitalisation: where we are half way and future research ahead(Inderscience Publishers, 2025-01-01)The study shows the situation of the 2030 Agenda halfway between 2015 and 2030. The empirical study aims to determine which SDGs are positively correlated with market capitalisation of publicly listed companies. Through a multiple linear regression between the 17 SDGs and market capitalisation in 26 developed and 48 emerging countries, the study finds that, for the most part, SDGs are inversely correlated with the market capitalisation of the countries studied. Therefore, companies would tend to undertake initiatives only associated with those SDGs that are positively correlated (2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12 and 17) with market capitalisation. This worrying inconsistency reflects a merely transactional implementation of initiatives, which becomes more acute depending on the type of country (developed or emerging). Seven potential factors are proposed as an explanation based on the rigorous literature review, and four relevant fields of future research are opened as a result of the study.2
