La reconstrucción de todo lo deshecho: El proyecto intelectual tacneño en ‘Letras: Revista bimensual modernista’
(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2025-05-29)
The emergence of Letras: A modernista bimonthly journal (1896-1898) must be understood within the historical context in which Tacna was under Chilean administration and awaiting the plebiscite that would determine either its definitive annexation to Chile or its reincorporation into Peru. It was published by the intellectual and diplomat José María Barreto. Letras articulated a dual project. It contributed to the development of Latin American modernismo while le-gitimizing Tacna’s role in the broader cultural life of Peru. The journal also assumed a patriotic role by constructing a community around love for the Peruvian homeland during Chilean occupation.

La primera migración Sur-Sur hacia el Perú republicano: Repensando la primera oleada de la migración china al Perú (1849-1874)
(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2025-05-29)
This article analyzes the first wave of Chinese immigration to Peru (1849-1874) as a South-South migration in the 19th century that exemplifies transformations in the world-system, linked to new labor systems and capitalist modernization in the industrial core of the global North. Factors of expulsion in China and attraction in Peru are identified, as well as the establishment of servitude as a transformation of the labor market. These migrants played a role in the export of commodities to the global North, while being subalternized historical subjects, with agency and heterogeneity in their experiences in Peru.
