Riesgo socioambiental en el Perú: identificación, caracterización y categorización de 1874 distritos al 2019, usando aprendizaje automatizado y econometría espacial
(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2024-04-17)
The environmental crisis due to climate change has forced many States to direct efforts towards environmental transition to reduce the probability of occurrence of a situation with a negative impact on their population or environment. Peru is no exception. In this sense, the need arises to identify and categorize its districts according to a certain socio-environmental risk. Faced with this challenge, a multistage quantitative methodology was developed and implemented, which made use of both machine learning (supervised and unsupervised) and spatial econometrics. The results of this methodology, visualized through emerging risk indixes, evidenced the existence of 165 districts considered socio-environmental risk zones (SERZ, in Spanish known as ZRS), mostly located in the coastal strip. Finally, it is concluded that the pattern and replicability of urban development model in Peru is currently not coherent with efforts towards environmental conservation and preservation.

Desarrollo sostenible del páramo peruano: estudio de caso de los páramos de Pacaipampa, Frías y Huancabamba, departamento de Piura, Perú
(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2023-09-12)
The paramo is an ecosystem whose importance lies in the conservation and accumulation of water and carbon. Its deterioration has repercussions on the increase of emissions and reduces aquifer recharge. Despite this, this ecosystem faces significant pressure in Peru, especially due to overgrazing. The study reviews the state of the paramo and links ecological conservation to the organizational structure of communities in the Piura highlands. The study aims to provide elements for the development of a sustainable management of the paramo ecosystem in the Pacaipampa, Alto de Frías, and Huancabamba paramos, in the Piura department, Peru. It is concluded that the paramo is a human-influenced ecosystem that, despite facing strong livestock pressure, can achieve sustainable development for local communities by linking its conservation through proper grazing management with the rest of the Piura region, allowing for its preservation.

Bioeconomía circular y gobernanza climática en la región andina: fundamentos para un Pacto Verde Andino
(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2026-05-29)
This article examines the relevance of emerging sustainable development paradigms in the Andean region, focusing on bioeconomy, circular economy, biotrade, and, in an integrated manner, the green circular bioeconomy. Using a qualitative and comparative approach, the study analyzes the European Green Deal as a reference framework to assess the institutional, productive, and governance capacities of the Andean Community (CAN) in addressing climate change challenges. The findings indicate that, while each paradigm offers valuable contributions, their isolated application is insufficient to address the complexity of environmental, social, and structural challenges faced by the region. In this context, the green circular bioeconomy emerges as the most coherent approach, as it integrates the sustainable valorization of biodiversity, circularity principles, technological innovation, and explicit objectives related to social inclusion and climate resilience. The analysis also highlights regional integration as a key enabling factor for policy coordination, regulatory harmonization, and the mobilization of green finance. Based on these findings, the paper proposes the development of an Andean Green Deal as a regionally adapted institutional framework aimed at fostering a sustainable, inclusive, and long-term productive transition.
