- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, University Professors’ Subjective Theories About Teaching Roles(Emerson de Pietri, 2023-01-01)The study of the subjective theories of university professors has become relevant due to the transformation that educational institutions are having and the effect they have on pedagogical practice. University professors are not necessarily prepared to face these changes, nor do they have enough spaces to reflect on the role they should play. Being subjective theories cognitions of hypothetical structure that guide behavior and are based on people’s experiences, this research aims to understand the subjective theories about their role in teaching of university professors of a management career. The participants were two expert university professors and two novice professors that were interviewed with a semi-standardized interview, and were observed on their classes, and, later, they were invited to express their degree of agreement to the formulated theories with the application of a structure generation technique. The main subjective theories about the teaching role addressed the role of the participants as teachers, researchers, tutors, advisors, counselors, and their role in social responsibility. The main conclusion was that the subjective theories of expert professors are based on the reflection of their life experiences in general, while that of novice teachers, on the replication or application of their school, university, or postgraduate experiences. This is because expert teachers have had the opportunity to make an important collection of experiences, reflect on their subjective theories, and make decisions that allow them to practically address the pedagogical challenges they encounter; while novice professors, not having had a broad teaching career, are based on their experiences as students and, from there, they direct their pedagogical action. Therefore, subjective theories contribute to understand the roles that expert and novice teachers have built when facing the new challenges that university teaching brings in the 21st century. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
AbstractDuring the year 2020, the sanitary emergency norm forced universities to teach under the remote learning method, representing a challenge of designing courses that require high effectiveness. The purpose of this work is to present the strategies that were successfully applied during the teaching and learning of design management tools for a building project, implemented in a course of the Civil Engineering master of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. The methodology considered the effect of the Covid-19 Pandemic and had as objective to develop soft skills and employability, for which a balanced use of virtual collaborative platforms as well as software was proposed for videoconference and laboratories. On the other hand, during this subject, students developed a proposal for integrated planning and management of the design phase using tools of norms and guidelines of construction management systems. Under this framework, the participation of stakeholders, multicriteria decision making, development of project design deliverables and project sequence was analyzed. The success of this methodology is reflected in the high quality of final papers and expositions, the result of surveys taken - effectiveness of 99%-, and in the improvement opportunities detected. A flexible and successful non-face to face subject was designed and implemented, which could be adapted to the Blended Learning modality. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
AbstractThe objective of this report is to showcase the effective techniques employed to teach building construction in a third-year civil engineering program at Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.
