Item type:Publication, EEPI: instrument for the evaluation of proximity environments to include people without autonomy in Lima(Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, 2021-01-01)To design proximity environments, criteria from the perspective of professionals and labo-ratory experiments are used. However, the opinions of citizens have not really been taken into account, the different types of people have not been analyzed simultaneously, and groups with visual and cognitive disabilities have not been included. For this reason, to evaluate urban spaces from a holistic and inclusive perspective, the EEPI instrument is pre-sented. The EEPI can be used in buildings, sidewalks, squares, and pedestrian crossings. It includes boys, girls, older adults, and people with disabilities (motor, visual, and cognitive) and takes into account their opinions, it is based on a mixed approach, it is useful and easy to apply and transfer, and it also includes physical, personal, and social criteria. The EEPI is also structured on two levels: planning and management. Moreover, like any instrument, it is subject to improvement and can accommodate other aspects. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Estudio paisajístico de los aspectos biofísicos y antrópicos en dos espacios urbanos de la ribera del río Rímac en Lima, Perú(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2024-12-10)The objective of this paper is to describe and contrast the biophysical and anthropic aspects in two urban spaces adjacent to the Rímac River in the city of Lima: the Malecón de la Amistad, and the viewpoints of the old Reserved Zone project of the Rimac River. The approach is qualitative with a descriptive scope and the landscape analysis criteria of Castillo et al. (2014) to highlight the forms of use enabled by anthropic intervention in relation to the natural ecosystem. The results suggest that these spaces have been intervened to direct the movement of their visitors, but in both cases the material elements of the urban scene show a precarious integration between the biophysical and the anthropic, which reflects a contradictory interventionism that imposes and cancels various forms of use for visitors, exacerbating the spatial fragmentation. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Inhabit in movement: The case of mobile digital workers in Lima (Peru)(Ministerio de Fomento, 2024-01-01)In the last decade, there has been an exponential increase in the delivery services of apps in the cities of Latin America, which has involved challenges for urban studies. This paper contributes to the research focused on the labor conditions of digital mobile workers within an approach that addresses the new forms of urban inhabit produced by these actors. From a case study of Lima (Peru) and an ethnographic approach, the connector role that the deliveries made for an area with a high concentration of financial activities is identified. It is argued that the ways of inhabiting are produced in contexts of vulnerability, emphasizing that the municipality controls the public space. It is concluded by highlighting the importance of inhabits experiences as an analytical dimension of the labor practices of digital mobile workers. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Mirar hacia abajo. This article examines archaeological windows as urban devices capable of linking the past and the present in contemporary public space. Through a critical analysis of two recent interventions in Lima’s Historic Center—the Plazuela del Teatro and the side atrium of the Church of Santo Domingo—it reflects on the technical, narrative, and ethical challenges involved in making the heritage subsoil visible. The essay argues that these windows should not be understood solely as solutions for protection or display, but also as discursive tools that reveal the social, political, and cultural dynamics of the past. It examines how the exposure of colonial hydraulic systems or distinct funerary practices generates new urban interpretations that link heritage, memory, and identity. Furthermore, the essay discusses the museographic, technical, and symbolic implications of these interventions and emphasizes the need for a technical assessment, effective cultural mediation, and citizen participation in the management of archaeological heritage. Looking down—both literally and metaphorically—is presented as a way to engage with urban history from the present, recognizing the multiple layers that make up the city. The article adopts an essayistic structure with an interdisciplinary approach that integrates urban planning, archaeology, and memory. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The Metropolitan Centralities of Lima (Peru) as an Inhabited Space: A Qualitative Approach(Universidad de Chile, 2023-01-01)Studies on centralities in recent decades in Latin America have privileged the analysis of the urban structure and have paid little attention to the analysis of the inhabited space. This, in turn, requires greater attention, especially in the temporal and spatial dimensions of practices. This article proposes to overcome these limitations through comparative analysis, taking as case studies two of the main metropolitan-scale centralities in Lima (Peru): The commercial area of Mesa Redonda, and Mercado Central, located in the historical center of the city, with high diversity of activities where formal and informal commercial activities predominate; and 2) the financial center of San Isidro, located in a high-income district of the city. The methodology consisted of intensive and multidisciplinary qualitative fieldwork. The article demonstrates how inadequacies are configured in everyday life in the two centralities from the temporal and spatial relationship between practices and the built environment. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
The objective of this article is to show new possibilities of facing urban inequalities from the architectural point of view, in the current context of the city of Lima. Based on the hypothesis that inequality is a structural problem of Peruvian society, the attempts to confront it from the disciplines of architecture and urbanism ends up encouraging it, since the projects are elaborated from tools and methodologies disseminated by the same system that produces such inequalities. Based on a theoretical framework that criticizes the neoliberal urbanism, this paper analyzes a series of research-action projects (carried out in peripheral areas in Lima in the last five years, with the participation of the author) that propose urban regeneration based on recovering the public space, where architecture is used as a means to question socio-spatial dynamics and provoke positive conflicts that make possible the conquest of citizenship through the full exercise of the right to the city. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Street commerce and disputes over public space in downtown Lima (Peru): Temporary spaces, negotiation and daily life(Academie des sciences, 2025-01-01)This paper aims to analyze how the daily practices of regulation of street commerce not only operate under criteria of discretion, but also configure temporary spaces of commerce. Based on an analysis of observation, interviews and urban records, the case of the main metropolitan commercial centrality in Lima (Peru) is examined. We propose to make visible the temporary and mobile nature of street commerce, describing micro-negotiation practices, where the State –through its officials– acts daily in the production of space. The article dialogues with the contributions of contemporary research on mobility and informality and establishes a contribution to the understanding of the dynamics of street trade.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Espacio público y desigualdad urbana.
