Análisis de muros verticales de adobe

A method of analysis for adobe vertical walls is presented, based on two series of static tests performed on natural-scale walls. The first series (overturning tests) shows that it is possible to apply a method of ultimate strength design (Yield Line Theory), based not on the traditional plastic hinges but on a type of mechanical hinge having great capacity for rotation under constant flexural moment. The second series demonstrates the validity of the method by testing different types of walls subjected to forces acting on a plane normal to the wall. Simplified empirical relationships are included, as they could be useful for earthquake-resistant design codes. These relationships have been obtained through the application of the principle of virtual work to the collapse mechanisms.
