Item type:Publication, School segregation in Latin America. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Analysis of intelligence and national security in Latin America: Bibliometric analysis(Universidad Centroccidental Lisandro Alvarado, 2024-04-30)Intelligence analysis (IA) consists of the collection, processing and analysis of classified information with the objective of identifying and preventing national security (NS) threats. NS encompasses a wide range of concerns related to sovereignty, homeland defense, and prevention of internal and external threats. While the use of IA in NS is valuable, it may have limitations by focusing on specific aspects and restricting addressing broader needs to ensure NS. This reveals a gap in the comprehensive understanding of the challenges and threats to a country, as the specific focus of IA does not encompass the broad vision needed in the NS. In this regard, bibliometric research was developed in which 416 articles from the Scopus and WOS database were analyzed using the WOSviewer and Biblioshiny tools. It was found that among the most cited authors were Schultze Ulrike and Choo Kim-Knag. In addition, among the most cited sources were the journal Information Visualization and Intelligence and National Security. Also, among the most frequently used keywords were "Intelligent Analysis" and "Artificial Intelligence". It was concluded that the study of AI is in development, the concern of which integrates artificial intelligence and cyber-attack threats - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Old speeches, new resources: Memes as a tool for the spread of extremist narratives and far-right ideology in Peru(Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. Facultad de Letras y Ciencias Humanas, 2024-01-01)This article aims to analyze one of the most promi-nent far-right collectives within the Peruvian digital space: Imperium.pe. Given that the presence and ac-tivities of this group are exclusively online, it is essential to examine not only the content of the speeches they promote, but also the predominant medium through which they are transmitted: internet memes, a digital format that has dominated online communication in recent years. By taking these memes as the starting point of our analysis, we can unveil the specific strategies that this collective employs to communicate its ideology, identify the target audi-ences for these speeches, and understand the reactions of the receivers. Additionally, it provides us with the opportunity to make a comparison between the resources employed and the themes addressed by Imperium and other similar politically leaning collectives in Latin America and worldwide. In this regard, our research will employ a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. Thanks to exclusive ac-cess to Meta’s official tool for searching, collecting, and analyzing the performance of publications, we will be able to compile all the relevant entries pub-lished by Imperium’s Facebook page (its most active social platform) during the year 2023. The collected materials include text, images, and statistics on the generated reactions. In this way, we will form a corpus of memes that will be qualitatively analyzed with the aim of identifying the main themes addressed by this group and the resonance of each of them among the public. The analysis will be based on specialized literature on the phenomenon of the meme and the speeches it can convey, with special emphasis on the contributions of renowned researchers such as Li-mor Shifman or Bradley Wiggins. From the analysis, it is possible to verify a dangerous increase in the receptivity and dissemination of openly conservative, anti-feminist, and anti-multiculturalist speeches. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Los «chamos» en cana(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2024-06-18)Following a chronic context of political crisis and violence (Antillano & Ávila, 2017; Antillano, 2023; Zubillaga & Llorens, 2023), Venezuela migration crisis of last years impacted on receptors countries such as Colombia and Perú (R4V, 2023). In particular, an exponential increase of foreign inmates in Peruvian prisons has triggered a renewed criminological discussion about migration and crime (Park et al., 1967; Brion, 1997). This article tackles an understudied aspect of this highly complex migration process: Venezuelans citizens facing pre-trial detention (74,5 %) or conviction sentences (25,5 %) in Peruvian prisons (INPE, 2024). Using a mixed methods approach we gathered statistics and conducted interviews of inmates and penitentiary agents to describe this new ‘coexistence’ in prisons. Furthermore, we discussed Venezuelan inmates’ adaptation vis á vis Peruvian prison culture and whether criminal groups could expand or transplant their activities (Varese, 2011; Garzón & Olson, 2013) to receptors country such as Panamá, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Perú, Bolivia and Chile. Thus, we argue that cultural importation dynamics take place at Peruvian prisons and, moreover, conflict emerged between two prison cultures and convict codes (one of them involving an inmate self-government background and the other familiarized with dialogued ‘prison governance’ schemes); these two different visions of ‘what life in prison should be’ struggle to impose their own ways to recreate conviviality and survival. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Jóvenes peruanos conversos a la ortodoxia: autodidaxia y resignificación de la tradición en Lima(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2026-07-15)This article examines the trajectories of young Peruvian men who have converted to the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, affiliated with the Patriarchate of Antioch, in Lima, aiming to understand how they construct their religious identity in an urban, non-ethnic context. An ethnographic approach was adopted, based on in-depth interviews, participant observation, and analysis of digital materials. The findings show that, in the absence of an inherited Orthodox tradition, these young men develop a highly personalized yet normatively rigorous spirituality. Through doctrinal autodidaxy, digital appropriation of religious content, and ritual discipline, they resignify both religious tradition and masculinity, drawing inspiration from models of sanctity and redefining their place in the community. The study concludes that conversion is not a singular event, but rather a prolonged process of discernment, symbolic reorganization, and search for authenticity. This research offers new perspectives on debates about religion, youth, and tradition in Latin America, demonstrating how Orthodoxy adapts and is transformed in the urban margins of Peru.
