Socio-economic and health management of pandemics based on forgotten effects theory
(Taylor & Francis, 2022-04-04)
Intense and frequent changes increase uncertainty and complexity in decision-making. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbates this situation. Therefore, the decision-maker seeks to reduce risks and meet these challenges. The manuscript aims to identify cause-effect relationships between variables affecting countries and changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and propose an algorithm to facilitate decision-making by identifying forgotten effects. The authors use thematic analysis to synthesize the semi-systematic literature review findings. The applied research uses a quantitative approach through modeling and simulation. The results highlight that the pandemic effects are associated with causes such as health care, political and economic stability, social justice, and the level of corruption. Decision-makers must prioritize the management of these variables guided by science. The main contribution is to show an algorithm that identifies forgotten effects in pandemics' socio-economic and health management, preventing future crises. In addition, the study advances the frontier of knowledge by addressing identified gaps and contributes to academia and policy makers. The most critical limitation is the number of variables included in this research. Future investigations could include analyses on the impact of climate change and sustainable development of nations and country-specific studies on the forgotten effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Critical Analysis of the Integration of Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence for Supply Chain
(Springer, 2023-08-01)
The integration between blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) has gained a lot of attention in recent years, especially since such integration can improve security, efficiency, and productivity of applications in business environments characterised by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. In particular, supply chain is one of the areas that have been shown to benefit tremendously from blockchain and AI, by enhancing information and process resilience, enabling faster and more cost-efficient delivery of products, and augmenting products’ traceability, among others. This paper performs a state-of-the-art review of blockchain and AI in the field of supply chains. More specifically, we sought to answer the following three principal questions: Q1—What are the current studies on the integration of blockchain and AI in supply chain?, Q2—What are the current blockchain and AI use cases in supply chain?, and Q3—What are the potential research directions for future studies involving the integration of blockchain and AI? The analysis performed in this paper has identified relevant research studies that have contributed both conceptually and empirically to the expansion and accumulation of intellectual wealth in the supply chain discipline through the integration of blockchain and AI.

Transformation of International Trade and Marketing: A Review of the Impact of Artificial Intelligence and Automation
(World Scientific, 2026-02-01)
This paper examines the current and future trends in integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation in marketing and international trade. The main objective is understanding how these technologies transform these fields, identifying the predominant discussions, methodologies employed, and reported results since 2010. To this end, a rigorous and systematic scoping review was conducted using the Scopus and Google Scholar databases. A total of 35 studies published between 2010 and 2023 were selected following a multi-phase screening process based on thematic alignment, methodological rigor, and publication quality. Only peer-reviewed journal articles and conference proceedings published in English were considered. Studies included had to explicitly address AI and automation in marketing or international trade, while descriptive reports or articles lacking analytical depth were excluded. The findings show a trend towards qualitative approaches in studies, emphasising theoretical and conceptual understanding over generating new data. Key themes identified include efficiency in cross-border e-commerce, user knowledge, adaptation to the era of big data and its effects on logistics, and regulatory challenges in the face of AI. These findings underscore the growing importance of AI and automation in marketing and international trade, highlighting opportunities and challenges for businesses and governments in a globalised environment.

The perception of the impacts of climate change in communities surrounding Lake Titicaca, Peru-Bolivia.
(Faculty of 1000, 2026-05-26)
<ns3:p> Background Climate change is increasingly transforming socio-ecological systems in high-Andean regions, particularly in communities surrounding Lake Titicaca, where livelihoods depend heavily on climate-sensitive activities such as agriculture, fisheries, livestock, and tourism. Despite growing environmental pressures, limited evidence exists regarding how local populations and institutional actors perceive climate-related impacts and adaptive responses in this transboundary region. This study analyzes climate change perceptions, perceived impacts, and adaptation capacities in communities located in Puno Bay (Peru) and Cohana Bay (Bolivia). Methods A mixed-methods approach integrating quantitative and qualitative techniques was applied during fieldwork conducted in November 2024 and June 2025 in the communities of Quehuaya, Capachica, Guaqui, and Puno. Data collection included structured surveys administered to 62 community members and 26 institutional actors, semi-structured interviews, participatory workshops, and participatory mapping exercises. Descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and Spearman correlations were used for exploratory quantitative analysis, while qualitative information was analyzed through thematic coding and socio-ecological interpretation. Results Findings revealed high levels of climate change awareness among community members (85.5%) and institutional actors (100%). Respondents identified reduced rainfall, increasing temperatures, hydrological variability, declining agricultural productivity, reduced fish availability, and tourism-related impacts as the principal perceived effects. Significant differences were identified regarding adaptation measures (χ <ns3:sup>2</ns3:sup> = 14.96, p < 0.001) and institutional support (χ <ns3:sup>2</ns3:sup> = 18.32, p < 0.001), evidencing structural inequalities in adaptive capacity. A moderate positive correlation (ρ = 0.36, p = 0.003) was observed between climate perception and reported impacts. Conclusions Climate change is widely recognized across Lake Titicaca communities; however, adaptive capacity remains uneven due to disparities in institutional support, resources, and technical knowledge. Strengthening multi-level governance, participatory adaptation strategies, and transboundary cooperation is essential for improving resilience in Andean socio-ecological systems. </ns3:p>

Peruvian Women's Underrepresentation in Science and Technology: Strategic Guidelines
(Sage Publications India Pvt. Ltd, 2025-06-01)
Women’s underrepresentation in science and technology (ST) has multiple complex reasons caused by cumulative effects at different stages in women’s lives. This is a relevant public policy issue for economic, social and ethical reasons that requires multiple solutions. In this sense, this study analyses the factors affecting Peruvian women’s participation in ST and proposes strategic guidelines to increase it. The originality of this article lies in studying this phenomenon, considering different stages of the career choice (access to education, career persistence and career progress) in a context that has not been previously studied, characterized by the highest female labour participation rate in Latin America. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with female students in high schools and universities, university professors in ST departments, professionals in ST careers, qualified researchers in ST institutions and ST experts. The information was encoded, categorized and analysed according to thematic analysis. Consequently, we propose an integrated framework of strategic guidelines based on the stages of women’s careers: access, persistence and advancement. The results are useful for public and private professionals and institutions engaged in ST, education and gender equality.
