Item type:Publication, Water resources management in vulnerable ecosystems: Quiroz river basin, Piura(European Center of Sustainable Development, 2020-01-01)According to the IPCC (2014), access to water resources is increasingly limited due to the effects of climate change; in consequence, vulnerability of ecosystems and their inhabitants increases. Thus, it is necessary to develop socio-organizational capacities to mitigate and adapt to this scenario, where retribution mechanisms for ecosystem services (MRSE for its Spanish acronym) become more relevant. The research attempts to analyze the coordination among agents involved in sustainable water resources management, to face climate change vulnerability in high biodiversity areas. For this purpose, the implementation of the Quiroz-Chira water fund will be studied as a case that generates institutionalism for sustainability of this mechanism and that represents an important social innovation that can be replicated. The methodology has a descriptive scope and applies qualitative techniques that complement secondary sources systematized with WebQDA software. Results indicate high vulnerability of the analyzed basin districts and a correct governance in this innovation, both with a sustainable development approach oriented to conservation of water potential. This implies good articulation for implementation of the MRSE and promotion of interests’ unification between contributors and water resources retributive entities. Item type:Publication, Sustainable development challenges in a war-torn country: Perceived danger and psychological well-being(John Wiley and Sons Ltd, 2020-08-01)The laborer's physical and mental health, well-being, and happiness are among the major indicators for measuring each nation's sustainable development. A conflictive and hostile external environment (war zone) poses considerable difficulty and psychological distress to workers and nonworkers. Therefore, working in such a physically dangerous business environment may hurt worker's well-being and happiness that in turn may reduce the workers' productivity at the workplace. A high level of laborers' productivity in public and private sectors is essential for achieving sustainable development in the long term. Therefore, this paper examines the effects of perceived danger on employees' psychological well-being in war-torn Afghanistan, an issue being addressed for the first time. We tested the moderating role of social support from coworkers on this effect in order to have a broader vision of which individuals are healthier and happier in a physically dangerous working environment. Two survey data sets were collected from 190 employees working in various small private and public businesses in Herat, Afghanistan. Our results reveal the negative impact of perceived danger on employees' psychological well-being and that employees who receive little or no social support from their peers feel the negative effects of a physically dangerous working condition even more acutely. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The way to sustainable development through income equality: The impact of trade liberalisation and financial development(John Wiley and Sons Ltd, 2020-07-01)Abstract The main aim of this paper is to examine the threshold impact of financial development and trade liberalization on income inequality as a measure of sustainable development in a sample of developed and developing countries using panel threshold analysis. Two major dimensions of financial development are considered: liquid liabilities and stock market capitalization. The empirical results revealed that financial development reduces income inequality only in countries where their GDP per capita is above ~US$11,000. It has no significant impact in reducing inequality in developing countries. This implies that institutional reforms in less developed and developing countries are necessary in order to reap the gains from financial development. Trade liberalization is found to have a positive impact on income inequality for both country groups—that is, trade benefits have worsened the income distribution. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Scientific mapping on the convergence of innovation and sustainability (innovability): 1990–2018(Emerald, 2020-09-17)Purpose Innovation and sustainability are key in today’s competitive world. It is no longer possible to conceive an organization that has not incorporated these two elements for it to become successful. The longitudinal bibliometric study seeks to examine the topography of innovation and sustainability to determine whether there is already a terminological integration that could be defined as innovation capability in a sustainable way. The objective of this work is to identify the growth trajectories of the literature, the countries considered as knowledge nodes, the most influential authors, the classification of journals, clusters and collaborative networks measured by co-citation, the analysis by keywords, countries and knowledge areas. Design/methodology/approach The study is developed under the bibliometric approach, and the period 1990–2018 was considered. The steps taken were as follows: 16 keywords of each term were identified and selected in 3 methodological layers by a panel of experts; an algorithm was designed and applied to identify these selected keywords in the titles, abstracts and keywords using terms in the Web of Science (WoS) of Clarivate Analytics to contrast them; and a review in specialized journals was carried out in the first quartile (Q1) of the WoS until 2018. Findings The most relevant finding of the study lies in the sustained growth of the convergence of the terms innovation and sustainability. In addition, the longitudinal review of the two concepts also shows that innovation is directly linked to sustainability, suggesting that the convergence of concepts and practices becomes part of the strategy of companies seeking to be competitive and sustainable. Practical implications At the management level, this research seeks to present a definition of innovability based on the convergence of the concepts of innovation and sustainability. This new concept can be applied as a management strategy for companies seeking to be competitive and sustainable. Theoretical and practical evidences that reinforce this construct are presented. At the academic level, the manuscript shows a longitudinal review on innovation and sustainability, a relevant scientific mapping and, finally, a new theoretical and practical concept is proposed that seeks to create strategies for competitiveness in a sustainable way. At the level of society, the study contributes to the sustainable development goals. Originality/value The results show that a field of studies on innovation is emerging that has a high potential to position itself as a new space for research. The concept of “innovability” is proposed. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The role of technological innovation in environmental pollution, energy consumption and sustainable economic growth: evidence from South Asian economies(Elsevier, 2021-12-02)This study examines the causal relationship among technological innovation (TI), environment pollution (EP), energy consumption (EC) and sustainable economic growth (SEG) from selected South Asian economies. In order to identify the causal association between energy growth and nexus of CO2 emissions, this study is employed the premises of the EKC framework. This study has used annual time series data set from world development indicator (WDI), start from 1990 to 2019. The result of a fully modified ordinary least square (FMOLS) method describes a significantly worsen the quality environment in the south Asian region. The individual country as Bangladesh shows a positively significant impact on the CO2 emissions and destroying the level of environment regarding non-renewable and renewable energy and technological innovation index. However, negative and positive values of growth (GDP) and square of GDP respectively confirm the EKC hypothesis in this region. This study has identified the causality between GDP growth and carbon emission and found bidirectional causality between economic growth and energy use. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Looking back to look forward: Learnings from the past to achieve sustainable recovery after upcoming global crises(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., 2022-01-01)This study identifies measures to recover economic growth and build sustainable societies and markets in post-COVID-19 scenarios-with a perspective of resilience and adaptability to climate change and massive biodiversity loss. Additionally, this study uncovers the interventions implemented to address economic, environmental and social consequences of past crises based on a systematic literature review. Specifically, this chapter provides answers to the following six questions: (1) What has been done in the past to rebuild social, economic and environmental balance after global crises? (2) Where (geographical region) did the analysis on measures taken concentrate? (3) When have scholars analysed past measures to rebuild business and society after a global crisis? (4) How did the past measures to rebuild business and society after the global crisis take place? (5) Who promotes the measures to rebuild business and society after a global crisis takes place? (6) Why is it important to study the previous literature on past measures to rebuild business and society after a global crisis takes place? Finally, this chapter identifies future research opportunities to rebuild business and society after the past global crises. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
