Item type:Publication, Revisiting Husserl’s transcendental phenomenology of the ego: Existence and praxis(Springer Nature, 2022-01-01)Two views have characterized the mainstream reception of Husserl’s work based on his lifetime’s publications. One considers his method and philosophy as primarily theoretical and dependent on the Cartesian paradigm. The other regards his eidetic method as caught in a “logicism of essences.” Both endured after Husserl’s 1936 Crisis and the later publications of his Nachlass. Thus the view has prevailed that his work was unable to address questions concerning concrete existence, historical facticity, ethical life, and metaphysical problems. Offsetting this view, this paper examines the origin and underlying arguments of these two interpretations and attempts to shed new light on both. In doing so, the paper accomplishes two tasks. First, it uncovers the eminently practical nature of Husserl’s transcendental subjectivity as a functioning active (constitutive) ego. Second, it reveals the existential roots of his transcendental ego. Both approaches stand together, and their upshot is a non-conventional, “unitary,” interpretation of Husserl’s work. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Social dynamics, gendered subjectivities, and surreptitious acts of agency from women to face intimate partner violence in a rural community of Peru(SAGE Publishing, 2022-12-06)The article analyzes women's inner subjective processes while engaged in male-to-female intimate partner violence (IPV) situations. Through in-depth interviews with 12 women who had suffered violence in a rural community in Peru, it examines three topics: social dynamics that simultaneously contribute to resist within and openly question IPV, the transformations of hegemonic femininity in the community and the implications on their gendered subjectivities, and women's surreptitious acts and processes of agency to recalibrate power within their situation of IPV. In conclusion, women experience inner psychic tensions about themselves, their partners, and their relationships, which enables them to question IPV while resisting within the violent situation. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Navigating Shifting Waters: Subjectivity, Oil Extraction, and Urarina Territorial Strategies in the Peruvian Amazon(Elsevier Ltd, 2023-11-01)This paper examines the relationships between extractive infrastructure, changing territorial strategies, and contemporary processes of subject formation among the Urarina, an indigenous people in the Peruvian Amazon. We first introduce the uneven and combined character of oil extraction in the Loreto region in north-eastern Peru, and how its racialised spatial contradictions are expressed in the ethnopolitical field that gives political form to regional extractive operations. The paper goes on to analyse the case of the Urarina people in the Chambira river basin, their particular place in the geography of extraction, and the case of the community of Nueva Union. We examine contemporary processes of subject formation in the community, which combine radical transformations in the role of money, territorial strategies, use and valuation of the environment, and changes in political structure, in non-linear ways. The paper closes by examining how the case of the community of Nueva Union sheds light on broader dynamics of subject formation, localised relations to the environment, and extraction as they play out in contemporary indigenous Amazonia. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Sowing Ideas: Foundations of Subjectivity and Development in Rural Contexts(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., 2025-12-12)This introductory chapter has two specific objectives. First, to introduce the reader to the theoretical and conceptual framework addressed in this book. That is, why is it important to discuss subjectivity and development, concepts so relevant to psychology? And second, why focus on using these notions to analyze rural contexts? It concludes that the processes of subjectivation and psychological development have a richness and qualitative nature unique to rural contexts, which allows for a case for a Rural Psychology. Finally, the reader is presented with the structure and thematic organization of this volume to facilitate understanding of the various contributions found within.1
