Effectiveness of mindfulness in business education: evidence from a controlled experiment
(Elsevier, 2021-07-01)
Mindfulness has evolved into a four billion dollar industry and has inevitably attracted attention of businesses and business schools. Scholars in the fields of business tend to agree that psychological and pedagogic assertions in the field of mindfulness can be grounded within the context of cutting-edge theories and findings within Organisation Science and Education Science. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the impact of mindfulness on learning of business analysis and decision making which is a staple in MBA programmes of business schools across the world. Business schools use case study method for teaching business analysis and decision making which engages the students in real-world experiences in a controlled manner and according to Experiential Learning theory increases self-efficacy. In a randomised controlled experiment, 293 MBA students of four business schools participated. The intervention group received a standardised mindfulness training of 20 weeks as a consequence of which their mindfulness score on Mindful Attention Awareness Scale increased significantly while the stress level declined. The study found that increase in mindfulness is a highly significant predictor of increase in the marks obtained by the students in business case study tests and that stress mediates between mindfulness and the marks obtained.

Psychometric evaluation of the Brief-COPE Inventory and exploration of factors associated with perceived stress among Peruvian nurses
(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2024-09-01)
This study aimed to analyze the psychometric properties of the Brief-COPE Inventory and to determine its concurrent validity by examining its association with perceived stress among Peruvian nurses. Methods: A psychometric study was conducted with 434 Peruvian nurses to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Brief-COPE Inventory through confirmatory factor analysis. Three stepwise variable selection regression models were implemented. Results: The three-factor model of the Brief-COPE Inventory demonstrated adequate fit indices (root mean square error of approximation = 0.052, standardized root mean square residual = 0.068, and both the comparative fit index and the Tucker–Lewis index = 0.95). Additionally, the factors were significantly correlated (p < 0.001), and the reliability was adequate (ω = 0.90). Nurses reported a medium level of perceived stress, with associated factors including having received stress management training, fear of COVID-19, and problem-focused coping strategies (p < 0.05). Conclusion: This study confirms that the Brief-COPE Inventory is a valid tool for measuring coping strategies among Peruvian nurses due to its good model fit, excellent reliability, and concurrent validity with perceived stress. However, further research is needed to assess its validity in the specific areas of performance perceived by nursing professionals.

Love and Affectionate Touch Toward Romantic Partners All Over the World
(Nature Research, 2023-12-01)
Touch is the primary way people communicate intimacy in romantic relationships, and affectionate touch behaviors such as stroking, hugging and kissing are universally observed in partnerships all over the world. Here, we explored the association of love and affectionate touch behaviors in romantic partnerships in two studies comprising 7880 participants. In the first study, we used a cross-cultural survey conducted in 37 countries to test whether love was universally associated with affectionate touch behaviors. In the second study, using a more fine-tuned touch behavior scale, we tested whether the frequency of affectionate touch behaviors was related to love in romantic partnerships. As hypothesized, love was significantly and positively associated with affectionate touch behaviors in both studies and this result was replicated regardless of the inclusion of potentially relevant factors as controls. Altogether, our data strongly suggest that affectionate touch is a relatively stable characteristic of human romantic relationships that is robustly and reliably related to the degree of reported love between partners.

Inter-Domain Role Transitions and Work-Family Life Balance: The Mediating Effect of Integration and Segmentation Preferences
(John Wiley and Sons Inc, 2023-09-01)
Despite growing research on boundary management through role transitions, there is still a lack of understanding of the strategies individuals use to achieve work-family life balance, and there is little research on the relationship between role transitions and work-family life balance. This article aims to determine the extent to which inter-domain role transitions affect work-family life balance using segmentation and integration preferences as mediating variables. To achieve this objective, we conducted an empirical study in which data were collected from a sample of 311 executives (directors) from Ecuadorian higher education institutions. Using structural equation modeling, the direction and strength of the proposed relationships were determined. Findings show that family domain integration preference and family domain segmentation preference mediate the relationship between family-to-work role transitions and work-family life balance. On the other hand, work domain segmentation preference and work domain integration preference were found to have no mediating effect between work-to-family role transitions and work-family life balance. The findings have practical implications for managing work and family life boundaries. This research contributes to a better understanding of the mediating effect played by segmentation and integration preferences between inter-domain role transitions and work-family life balance from an individual perspective.

Development of a Web System That Allows Detecting Stress in Young People Between the Ages of 18 and 23 to Treat Them Early
(Auricle Global Society of Education and Research, 2023-05-01)
Stress is a disease that goes unnoticed in most cases, currently the world is going through a global pandemic that in many cases has generated an increase of the stress level in the population; however, this disease is a response of the organism to stress factors, such as the work and educational environment, implying that the university population is very prone to suffering stress or already has it, for this reason, the present work is focused on they. Finally, a web system will be developed to a large extent that will allow detecting stress in university students through a form, for which multiple web technologies will be used, in addition to the Scrum methodology. In this way, a website prototype was obtained that meets two objectives, the detection of user stress and ensuring that they obtain the necessary information so that they know the causes and effects of this disease, as well as activities that help them to cope, control and overcome stress; thanks to this present project, the user will be able to know their stress level and knowing the severity of this, they will resort to the necessary professional help, achieving in the future, reducing the stress index in the university population.

Academic Stress and Adaptation to University Life: Mediation of Cognitive-Emotional Regulation and Social Support
(Universidad de Murcia Servicio de Publicaciones, 2023-01-01)
University life involve personal, social, academic, and institutional challenges to which the students must adapt not only to achieve academic successbut also to guarantee a good physical and mental health during the career. This period can be influenced by stressful situations that can affect at personal and academic level. The objective of the present study was to determine, through an analysis with structural equations, whether various cognitive-emotional regulation strategies and perceived social support, act as mediators of the effect of stress on adaptation to university life in 555 Colombian university students (437 women, 78.7%) with ages from 16 to 49 years (M = 22.83; SD = 4.774). The results show that the cognitive-emotional regulation strategies positive (Focus and Reappraisal), negative (Rumination, Self-blame and Blaming others) and social support are mediators of the effect of stress on adaptation to university life.

Psychometric Validation of the Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale 10 in Peruvian Nurses and Its Association with Stress and Empathy
(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2026-04-01)
Background: This study aims to psychometrically validate the abbreviated version of the Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC-10) in Peruvian nurses, evaluating its convergent validity through its association with perceived stress and empathy. Methods: A cross-sectional psychometric study was conducted in 374 Peruvian nurses to evaluate the psychometric properties of CD-RISC-10 through confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Furthermore, concurrent validity was assessed through correlational analysis using Spearman's rho coefficient to evaluate the relationships among resilience, perceived stress, and empathy. Results: The CFA supported the predominantly one-dimensional model showing an adequate fit when the residual covariance between Items 4 and 7 was specified after correlating the residuals of Items 4 and 7 (CFI = 0.978, TLI = 0.971, RMSEA = 0.080, and SRMR = 0.044). Ordinal Cronbach's alpha of 0.89 and McDonald's omega of 0.81 were obtained. Concurrent validity showed significant correlations with perceived stress (rho = −0.53, p < 0.001) and empathy (rho = 0.31, p < 0.001). Conclusions: The CD-RISC-10 has adequate psychometric properties in Peruvian nurses. Future studies are needed to evaluate its factorial invariance between clinical specialties and establish normative thresholds.
