Game invention as means to stimulate probabilistic thinking
(International Association for Statistical Educationshse@cbs.nl, 2020-02-29)
In this paper, we make a qualitative analysis of didactic experiments performed with five 6 to 10-year-old children and five primary school teachers, starting from a structured game with probabilistic elements. The fundamental idea is to stimulate probabilistic thinking not only by playing a card game with decision making in uncertain situations, but by inventing games modifying the initial game. These experiments are grounded on the importance of emotions for learning, the subjective probability approach, and researches on problem posing. We have found that this activity of inventing games has a significant impact on the development of probabilistic thinking in children and teachers; it reduces the anxiety and it could be used in teaching strategies to foster statistical and probability literacy. Some of its positive effects are the strengthening of creativity, self-efficacy, self-esteem, the ability to ask questions, and the enjoyment of learning. Statistical tables in Primary Education textbooks of Peru
(Facultad de Ciencias de la Educacion, 2022-01-01)
In recent years, the literature shows an increase in research analyzing statistical representation of data in textbooks, but in the Peruvian context is still scarce. Therefore, this research aims to analyze activities on statistical tables present in mathematics textbooks, published by the Ministry of Education and distributed free of charge to teachers and students of Primary Education in Peru. The methodology is qualitative and descriptive. For data analysis, the content analysis technique was used by analyzing types of statistical table, types of task, reading levels and semiotic complexity levels as units of analysis in a complete series of mathematics textbooks of Primary Education, from first to sixth grade, one per level, due to their wide national coverage. The results allow us to observe predominance of tally charts and data tables, completion and comparison tasks, reading level 2 (reading within data) and semiotic complexity level 3 (representation of data distribution). It is concluded that it is necessary to increase the number and variety of tasks related to statistical tables proposed in mathematics textbooks, as well as to reinforce the presence of the highest levels of reading and semiotic complexity in the last years of Primary Education in Peru.

Sources of perceived social support, school adjustment and academic success in Peruvian secondary education
    (Taylor & Francis, 2026-01-01)
Social support has relevant effects on adjustment in the educational setting, and in turn, this school adjustment is important to obtain academic success. The aim of this research is to analyse the relationships of the perceived social support from family, teachers and friends with the students' school adjustment, and their academic success, while controlling for age, gender and type of school in Secondary school students. The research is a cross-sectional survey design. The sample was 906 Peruvian students. A structural model found that social support dimensions, gender and type of school predicted school adjustment. Academic success was directly and positively predicted by school adjustment. Girls perceived more school adjustment than boys. Students in private schools perceived more adjustment than students in public schools.

A new perspective of work stress on teaching performance by competencies
    (Routledge, 2025-01-01)
The purpose of this research was to analyze the incidence of work stress on the performance by competencies of university teachers, measured by the functions of teaching (pedagogic-didactic competencies, research, academic management, and university extension. A total of 400 teachers who work full time in the main public and private universities in Ecuador participated in the study. Data and relationships were analyzed using structural equation models based on covariances (CB-SEM) through the maximum likelihood method. The reported findings showed that work stress had a significant impact on performance dealing with pedagogical and academic management competencies, while statistically significant results were not reported for research and university extension competencies.
