Item type:Publication, Koch snowflake fractal antenna design in the deep space bands for a constellation of CubeSat explorers(IOS Press BV, 2021-12-22)This paper presents the design and simulation of a Koch curve fractal antenna, developed according to the second iteration of the Koch snowflake fractal for S-band, C-band, X-band and Ku-band. The simulated antenna shows good performance for the operating frequencies and desirable gain, bandwidth and VSWR parameters. Being a compact antenna, it has a size, geometry and characteristics that go in accord with the CubeSat's structure standards. The antenna was fabricated on a 1.5 mm thick FR-4 substrate. The VSWR achieved values are lower than 1.4 for the frequencies used (2.1 GHz to 2.4 GHz and 7.4 GHz to 8.9 GHz) with a simulated omnidirectional radiation pattern. A maximum gain of 6.8 dBi was achieved. As this antenna works optimally in the S, C and X bands, it is adequate for deep space applications, especially in low-power consumption systems. This approach would be ideal for constellations of Cubesat explorers. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Implementation of a mobile application as a tool for recognition and interpretation of nonverbal language to improve communication with deaf-mute people(IJETAE Publication House, 2022-04-01)In the present study, it was observed that a certain percentage of people with hearing and sound disabilities are not understood, as some non-disabled people do not know or master sign language, resulting in a lack of communication with deaf-mute people. Although it is true that nowadays communication and social inclusion is essential, it is for this reason that the mobile application for the recognition and interpretation of non-verbal language was implemented through the agile SCRUM methodology, it allows a better flexibility in developing the requirements established by the users, in addition, it adapts to the different changes in the development process of the mobile application based on the needs of the users. For the development of the application, a survey was made to citizens of a community, which helped to determine the contents of the mobile application, in which the information module is responsible for detailing information related to hand language and its application, on the other hand, there are the manual translation and consultation modules, which have the functions of translating hand movements, either by means of a camera or a keyboard, among others. As a result, several modules of the mobile application were developed and optimized to meet the needs of the surveyed users. The implementation of the mobile application provided communication and social inclusion facilities, since it allowed a better interaction between people without disabilities and deaf-mute people, generating knowledge about the meaning and execution of hand language. Keywords— Mobile Application, Communication, Sign Language, Non-verbal Language, Interpretation, Deaf Mutes. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Psychometric assessment of the Communication Skills Scale among Peruvian nurses and factors associated with job insecurity(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2024-12-22)Background/Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Communication Skills Scale (CSS) among Peruvian nurses, as well as the factors associated with job insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: We explored five models of confirmatory factor analysis for the CSS and its four subscales and assessed the convergent validity and criterion validity of the scale by analyzing its connection with job insecurity through stepwise multiple regression. We used insights from a focus group for the cultural adaptation of the scale. In the psychometric phase, 225 nurses participated through a virtual survey. Results: The psychometric analysis revealed that the CSS and its subscales have a robust internal structure—similar to the original questionnaire—and are optimally reliable in the Peruvian population. Furthermore, the results show that job insecurity was associated with contract type, communication skills, empathy, and job satisfaction. Conclusions: The CSS and its subscales are valid and reliable to be applied to Peruvian nurses. Initiatives should be undertaken to strengthen communication skills and increase job satisfaction among nursing professionals by improving their working conditions, especially in times of crisis, to reduce job insecurity and promote well-being. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, SDG-18 Communication for All: The Tool We Need for Real Development and Social Change(Springer, 2023-01-01)The sustainable development goals (SDGs) are an urgent call for action that has been many times relegated to a background position. This is mostly due to the fact that they are not as widely known as being effectively used in decision-making processes at all levels and sectors. What is called the new normal within the COVID pandemic presents us with a key opportunity to explore alternative ways in which the SDGs could be more inclusively applied, and the first step should be to create an SDG-18 in order to foster the realization of each of the 17 SDGs previously agreed upon by the UN, thus promoting development and social change. The technology, knowhow and all the necessary tools we need to have a more developed, inclusive, healthy and sustainable society already exist, SDG-18 should be the means through which these reach the people who need them the most. In this paper, we critically analyze and explore what available routes of action already exist and are not being exploited thoroughly, and which could be expeditiously developed or put to use in order to foster a more integrated communication system for development and social change within the SDG framework. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Places, History and Memories: The Role of Rooting in the Processes of Ethnic Self-Identification in Peru(SAGE Publishing, 2025-10-01)The main question of this study asks about to what extent people's identification with an ethno-racial category—in the case of Peru, Quechua, Aymara, Amazonian ethnic group, or Afro-descendant—is conditioned by “living” memory practises that are present in their daily routines and lives and are associated with historical characteristics linked to their places of birth, a process we have called rooting. To discuss it, we have used information from official Peruvian national surveys database and historical administrative data. We find an association between ethnic self-identification and characteristics of people's districts of birth, such as presence of archaeological monuments, or existence of resettlements existed, or long-time presence of Afro-descendant populations. These results should open new research topics related to how the collective experiences of places of birth are reproduced over time to continue shaping the cultural practices of citizens.1
