Assessing the Impact of Corporate Entrepreneurship in the Financial Performance of Subsidiaries of Colombian Business Groups: Under Environmental Dynamism Moderation
    (Research Square, 2020-10-26)
Abstract Corporate entrepreneurship creates opportunities in employment, technological advances, value creation, and cultural transformation for entrepreneurial ecosystems, entrepreneurs, governments, economies and society around the globe. The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of corporate entrepreneurship on the financial performance of subsidiaries of Colombian business groups under the moderating effect of the environmental dynamism, because the relationship between corporate entrepreneurship and financial performance in emerging economies must differ from developed economies. Using a cross-sectional structural equation modeling analysis, this study assessed the impact of entrepreneurial orientation and corporate venturing on the firm financial performance of 87 subsidiaries of Colombian business groups at different levels of environmental dynamism. This study confirms that the relationship between corporate entrepreneurship and performance is context-dependent, and that entrepreneurial orientation has a strong and positive causal relationship to corporate venturing. Additionally, subsidiaries of Colombian business groups increase their financial performance when they increase entrepreneurial orientation and decrease financial performance when they increase corporate venturing. Furthermore, the results with and without environmental dynamism are similar. This paper would contribute to important areas in Latin America business where such studies are scarce.

Designing a Framework for E-Government Adoption in Peruvian State Enterprises Using COBIT 5.0
(European Organization for Nuclear Research, 2020-08-19)
As part of the regulatory compliance process and the streamlining of public administration, the Peruvian government has implemented the National E-Government Plan in all state institutions with the aim of providing citizens with solid services based on the use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT). As part of the regulations, the requisites to be met by public institutions have been submitted. However, the lack of an implementation model was detected, one that can serve as a guide to such institutions in order to materialize the organizational and technological structures needed, which allow them to provide the required digital services. This paper develops an implementation model of electronic government (egovernment) for Peru's state institutions, in compliance with current regulations based on a COBIT 5.0 framework. Furthermore, the paper introduces phase 1 of this model: business and IT goals, the goals cascade and the future model of processes

Allocation Optimization Problem for Peruvian Food Bank
    (IGI Global, 2020-01-01)
Food insecurity is a recurrent condition in which members of a household do not have enough food to cover their nutritional needs; this condition contributes to increasing social vulnerability of those affected. In Peru, there are more than 9 million people who suffer this condition, which generates malnutrition and anemia, mostly in children. On the other hand, the waste of food is associated with production the large amounts of greenhouse gas emissions that affect global warming. According to reports in Peru, 20% of what is food produced becomes waste. This scenario in terms of food for Peruvians represents 3 billion calories in wasted food that could feed 2 million people. The Peruvian Food Bank manages food donations, ensuring this food can reach people in need through humanitarian aid entities. This applied research work uses the tools of operations research to determine a solution to the problem of maximizing the combination of food orders to be distributed based on their total nutritional value to the beneficiaries, seeking maximum coverage and minimum logistic costs.

Supply Chain Innovation and Sustainability Frontiers: A Balanced Scorecard Perspective
    (Springer, 2020-01-01)
Global trade has been growing at a steady pace since the 1950s, which has brought increasing operational challenges to supply chains. Technological advances and the “digital revolution” bring new opportunities to improve key supply chain processes in many sectors, including transportation. However, while embracing innovation, firms have to ensure that they do not lose strategic focus and that their performance measurement systems continue to evolve. This study explores how disruptive innovations in supply chain operations may produce unexpected outcomes for firms’ strategy. We analyze four examples of technological innovation in transport under a Balanced Scorecard framework. Our reflections shed light on the potential trade-offs that organizations may face between different dimensions of performance to pursue sustainable development goals.

Creating shared value and social innovation: Cases of success from South American entrepreneurial ventures
    (IGI Global, 2020-12-04)
This multiple case study of nine entrepreneurial ventures with social emphasis operating in Colombia, Peru, and Chile identifies vital elements that make these firms impactful in three dimensions: economic, environmental, and social. The results found that the founder's proximity to the social/ecological problem is a trigger to start up a business. The "purpose" is a motivational factor to both start up a business and keep the business during hard times, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose is the fuel, but it does not guarantee the success of the company. The value proposition is the critical factor for success. These companies are continually re-inventing and changing their value proposition while keeping the purpose of the organization as a keystone. The authors shed light on a model for social entrepreneur-ship in South America.

Analysis of factors affecting project communications with a hybrid DEMATEL-ISM approach (A case study in Iran)
    (Elsevier, 2020-08-01)
Project management; Communications management; Fuzzy DEMATEL; Interpretive structural modeling (ISM); MICMAC Analysis; Construction engineering; Human resource management; Industry management; Business management; Behavioral psychology; Business One of the main factors in the success of projects is communications management and proper and timely distribution of information among all internal and external project stakeholders. Despite of emphasizing on the importance of project communications in the literature, there are few studies identifying factors influencing project communications. This research aims to address this shortcoming by identifying and determining sequences and relationships factors affecting project communications and their clustering. The informed communication strategy allows managers to structure the information flow in a better and more controlled manner and to avoid the costs caused by lack of effective and timely communication. The present study is conducted to help clarify the views of the organization's managers and project managers on project communications, and to identify factors affecting it and how they effectively communicate to successfully accomplish the projects. First a number of factors influencing project communications are identified on the basis of previous studies and interviews with experts and project managers working in oil, gas and power plant construction megaprojects in Iran. Then, these factors are analyzed by using the combination of fuzzy DEMATEL and Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) techniques. The relationships and sequence between the indicators are determined so that it can be effective in project communications planning and project success through providing an insight for senior managers and project managers.

Ownership governance practices and their influence on family businesses financial performance
    (EconJournals, 2020-03-01)
Ownership is usually a system assumed implicit in the dynamics of management of enterprises, but it actually deserves more attention than a periodic control in the yearly general shareholder´s assembly. Empowerment of owners is required given the magnitude of decisions they make in terms of capital and business purpose, and not just delegate it to the Board or the CEO. Despite the relevance of the topic, there is a gap in the literature of corporate governance in family business from the ownership dimension. This longitudinal study uses a quantitative approach with an explanatory scope that pretends to answer the question: Do shareholders corporate governance practices and family control influence financial performance on businesses? 104 public companies were analyzed and 36.5% of them were identified as family businesses, using data from National Registry of Values and Issuers, which also responded the country Code 'survey of Colombia in the period 2008 to 2014. Data was processed with student's t test and Random Effects analysis that is a panel data technique. Results shown that family and non-family businesses have significant differences in ownership governance practices, but no significant relationship were identified between corporate governance practices of shareholders or family control with financial performance. (Society of Sytematic Innovation, 2020-09-01)
This paper investigates the influence of innovation management tools on product innovation in 84 Peruvian companies that received public funding to carry out innovation projects. The empirical exploratory study is based on a comprehensive questionnaire for collecting data and is analysed using a binary Probit method. The results indicate that although the use of tools is scarce in Peruvian companies, innovation management tools influence product innovation. Furthermore, all the evidence shows that innovation management is important, and therefore the innovation process must be structured and systematized.
