Item type:Publication, Algal-based polysaccharides as polymer electrolytes in modern electrochemical energy conversion and storage systems: A review(Elsevier, 2020-12-19)In the last decade, the development of high-efficiency electrolytes based on polymeric materials has drawn increasing attention. Polysaccharides are widespread biopolymers with properties suitable for the fabrication of high-efficiency polymer electrolytes. In specific, algal-based polysaccharides are promising eco-friendly and biodegradable alternatives to conventional polymer electrolytes. This review focuses on the recent progress of polymer electrolytes based on algal polysaccharides. We set the basic consideration for high-performance polymer electrolytes and discuss the materials science aspects of algal-based polysaccharides involved. Then, we review the recent progress of algal polysaccharides-based electrolytes, including the various physical and chemical treatments applied for the enhancement of ionic conductivity and mechanical properties. Lastly, we summarize the applications of the algal polymer electrolytes in batteries, fuel cells, supercapacitors, and dye-sensitized solar cells and their performance. Algal polysaccharides are presented as biodegradable, cost-efficient, high-performance, and eco-friendly alternatives for the development of high-performance solid polymer electrolytes for modern electrochemical applications. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Bioactive membranes of polymeric micro and nanocomposites prepared with the natural anionic marine polysaccharide (Alginate) functionalized with extracts of cat’s claw (Uncaria tomentosa) and Aloe vera(Trans Tech Publications Ltdttp@transtec.ch, 2020-01-01)In this research, the nanostructured alginate (AL) membranes were prepared with natural bioactive compound, Cat's claw (Uncaria tomentosa) extract (UT). UT is broadly used as an anti-inflammatory agent and the effect on the treatment of Rheumatism was proved by many scientists. For this reason, we added this bioactive compound in the process of AL membrane formulation to improve the biological activities. 2-dimentional (2-D) and 3-dimentional (3-D) AL membranes were prepared with and without addition of UT extracts. 3-D AL membranes were prepared using ultrasound with high intensity. The wettability of AL membranes depending on the concentration of AL was studied by measuring contact angle and surface energy. Stabilization agent, poloxamer 407, was used to improve the stability of AL nanoemulsion. The effects of UT in 3-D AL membranes were studied by measuring swelling behavior and contact angle. The surface morphology was measured with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Comparing to 2-D AL membranes, 3-D AL membranes presented rougher surface due to AL nanoparticles presence. When UT was incorporated in AL membranes, strong antioxidant activity and higher contact angle and swelling ratio were observed than non-UT incorporated AL membranes. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Recent Trends and Notable Advances of Alginate-Based Nano-Particles for Effective Biomedical Materials: Wound Healing and Drug Delivery(Trans Tech Publications Ltd, 2023-01-01)Alginate is natural biodegradable polymers often used for wound treatments and drug delivery purposes. Due to the structural characteristics, alginate polymers are able to form hydrogel. Alginate nanoparticles are obtained by diverse methodologies and the physical and chemical properties can be affected by production techniques and the molecules incorporated. Alginate possesses unique bioactivities such as biocompatibility, biodegradability, hydrophilicity and nontoxicity, so it has great potential for biomedical applications. Alginate based hydrogels and nanoparticles carrying active compounds are able to supply the optimal environments for wound healing and controlled drug administration including targeted or localized drug-delivery systems. In this review, the recent researches about the alginate and alginate-complex nanoparticles as potential tools for wound dressing membrane and drug delivery carriers are studied.
