Item type:Publication, La reincidencia delictiva de las internas del penal de mujeres de Chorrillos –factores asociados 2018(Universidad de San Martín de Porres, 2020-01-14)This article determined how the individual and environmental factors are related to the criminal recidivism of the inmates of the Chorrillos Women's Prison in 2018. It was a non-experimental, explanatory design that seeks to describe the individual and environmental factors that influence the recidivism of the inmates, having a population for the study of 753 inmates, 167 inmates were evaluated, through the application of a questionnaire. As a result, 78% of the inmates have family problems, which have caused conflicts or stress. On the other hand, 55% of inmates have friends who use drugs. Because of the type of recidivism, of the total of inmates who have been previously convicted, 77% report that their previous conviction was for the same or similar offense, unlike the remaining 23% of the inmates of the Chorrillos Women's Prison, who refer that his previous conviction was not for the same offense or similar. The most significant associated factor in criminal recidivism was the Family Factor due to the background of a family member in prison, and physical abuse at home, 95% confidence, and family discussions, at 90% confidence. The static and dynamic individual factors influence the criminal recidivism of the inmates at 90% and 95% confidence, respectively. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, A decolonial and depatriarchal approach to women’s imprisonment: Co-governance, legal pluralism and gender at Santa Mónica Prison, Perú(Palgrave Macmillan, 2022-01-01)Research about prisons in the Global South has started to analyse the power dynamics between prison staff and prisoners, but it has focused mainly on men's prisons. Following decolonial and feminist, the chapter is based on the empirical data produced during an ethnography in Santa Monica, a women's prison in Lima, Peru. I argue that Santa Monica functions through a co-governance with prisoner-delegates who have the role of intermediaries or interface brokers. Moreover, I propose that prison is a site of interlegality where national law and customary law superimpose and interpenetrate in the subjects' actions and minds. Consequently, social relationships between authorities, prison staff and prisoners are defined by a hybrid legal system. I conclude with the importance of recognising different types of political and social organisations, not only as the result of errors or of failed development processes in the Global South, but also as an alternative configuration that may lead us to question how we conceptualise prison and imprisonment. In the same line, I acknowledge women prisoners are not only moulded by patriarchal structures, but also recognise the ambivalences and the possibilites of organising and engaging in semi-autonomous actions while imprisoned.
