15 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The first rainfall erosivity database in Mexico: facing challenges of leveraging legacy climate data(2025-08-05)Abstract. Soil water erosion (SWE) is the dominant soil degradation driver on a global scale. For quantifying SWE, erosivity is an index that reflects the potential (i.e., the energy) of rainfall to cause SWE. To support large-scale SWE studies and the assessment of the SWE process at the national scale in Mexico, the objectives of this research are a) to develop the first Mexican rainfall time series database for three climate normals CNs (1968–1997, 1978–2007, and 1988–2017) leveraging legacy climate data, and b) to estimate rainfall erosivity across continental Mexico by using daily rainfall time series. The workflow has three methodological moments: 1) development of the daily rainfall time series database, 2) identification of the best empirical relationship to estimate daily rainfall erosivity, and 3) estimation of the rainfall erosivity across Mexican territory. We compiled and harmonized 5410 rainfall time series (RTS) well distributed across the Mexican territory. We perform quality control and assurance, homogeneity analysis (using the normal homogeneity test), and the data gap-filling process (using the proportion method). Then, we tested three combinations of the α and β coefficients, proposed by three authors, in a power model to estimate rainfall erosivity; in this step, we used three validation databases (global, national, and local scales). Finally, we estimated the annual rainfall erosivity for all three CNs with multiple combinations of α and β coefficients. As principal results, the new database includes 1370, 1678, and 1676 RTS for each CN and its corresponding rainfall erosivity. The best parameter combination is the one proposed by Richardson et al. (1983) for all three validation databases. For the global and national databases, we observe a positive bias (Mean error of 956 and 324 MJ mm ha-1 h-1 yr-1, respectively); in contrast, for the local database, results show a negative and higher bias (Mean error of -3699 MJ mm ha-1 h-1 yr-1). About the erosivity estimation across the Mexican territory, the median values for rainfall erosivity for the three CNs were 3245, 3070, and 3327 MJ mm ha-1 h-1 yr-1, respectively. The statistical distribution of the erosivity values was right-skewed for the three CNs, with high erosivity values reaching >12000 MJ mm ha-1 h-1 yr-1 in all three CNs. The behavior throughout the year of the rainfall erosivity was similar for the three CNs. However, September had the highest contribution to the rainfall erosivity. The new database provides daily climatological data and analysis across Mexican territory through a multi-year period (1968 to 2017). Rainfall erosivity results support the study of SWE at the national scale by identifying areas with higher susceptibility to soil loss due to rainfall action and providing a more spatially dense and well-documented rainfall erosivity database. Following the FAIR principles (Findability, Availability, Interoperability, and Reproducibility) for scientific data, this database is available from a scholarly accepted repository https://doi.org/10.6073/pasta/e0dc8bd3501f8c19bb750e853c3289cb (Varón-Ramírez et al., 2025) for public consultation.3 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Strategic human resources management in times of economic uncertainty: a lifebuoy for employees?(Emerald Publishing Limited, 2026-01-01)Drawing on social exchange and street-level bureaucracy (SLB) theories, the authors of the present paper seek to identify how public banks in Egypt strategically manage their frontline employees to maintain high performance even during periods of economic uncertainty. Design/methodology/approach The empirical sample comprises semi-structured interviews with 28 frontline employees working in 4 public banks. The authors used the Gioia mechanism to analyze their data. Findings The authors identified job-related (discretionary power of bank employees, nature of banking jobs and hiring elite individuals for banking jobs); learning-related (continuous learning of bank employees, spread of MBA programs and resilience of bank employees) and context-related categories of factors (career support and more financial rewards during economic uncertainty) that explain the stability of the performance of the frontline bank employees addressed in this study despite the economic uncertainty their country is passing through. Practical implications Given the findings of the present paper, the authors propose that the administration of the addressed banks maintain the policy of providing training opportunities to their employees. However, such training should pay more attention to issues such as crisis management, customer-employee engagement and the mental health of employees during crises, among others. Second, as dissatisfaction is very high with other public sector organizations in Egypt, their top management should try to learn from public banks, follow the best practices and collaborate with them to improve their service offerings to the citizens. Finally, for global financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund who are involved in rescuing Egyptian economy should incorporate strategic human resources management implementation in public sector organizations in their recommendations, along with economic reforms package. Originality/value This paper contributes by filling a gap in the literature on strategic human resources management and economic uncertainty in which empirical studies of the association between them, particularly in the context of North African countries such as Egypt, have been limited so far. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

¿Cuándo un rostro se hace “amigable”, “reconocible”, “identificable”?1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Professional credibility cycles in education: Constructing trust and expertise in a regulated state school system(SAGE Publishing, 2026-05-01)Experts must adapt to immediate circumstances when managing impressions and be able to reassert credibility and exercise authority when performing professionalism. A credible professional is constructed, applied, and recognized locally as well as relationally, particularly within the context of careers in bureaucratic structures. Few studies investigate professional credibility through processual approaches assessing experts' testimony and practice in situ as they manage their careers over a period of time. We examine the cycles of professional credibility in a rural elementary state school in Brazil, focusing on how credibility is constructed, applied, and recognized in highly regulated bureaucratic systems. We use the “credit cycle” framework from science and technology studies to analyze education professionals' positions, career paths, and group dynamics. Our ethnographic approach included participant observation, document analysis, audio-visual data collection, and interviews with education workers. We used event-related phases and narrative analysis to analyze data and uncover insights into professional credibility, expanding the concept of the credit cycle beyond laboratories to include primary education professionals and managers. We consider how individual professional credibility is enacted by producing report cards and educational projects within what is a highly regulated educational system. What is “critical” in our research is a critique of the approach to the bureaucratization of professions that suggests that the outcome is “de-professionalization” or “proletarianization.” Our research findings highlight professional credibility's relational, transactional, dynamic, and cyclical nature and offer practical insights for understanding and enhancing expertise in bureaucratic settings. Future studies should apply the credit cycle to other professional contexts.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

This article addresses the challenge of low overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) within the textile industry. It identifies the need to enhance equipment availability, quality, and performance to tackle sectoral challenges. The main objective of this research study aimed to develop and implement a management model based on total productive maintenance (TPM) and Six Sigma, using a textile company as a case study. A sample of 28 machines from the Weaving Department was taken and various tools were applied, including internal analysis, process flow diagram (PFD), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), Pareto analysis, cause-and-effect matrix, 5S, TPM, I-MR charts, and control plans. As a result, a remarkable increase of 9.09% in OEE was achieved, demonstrating specific improvements of 5.18% in equipment availability, 4.23% in performance, and 1.6% in quality.2 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Locally adapting digital health technologies to address the global challenge of Parkinson's disease(2025-08-29)Parkinson's disease is the fastest growing neurological disorder worldwide. As the global burden of the disease continues to grow, along with the environmental consequences of industrialization, it remains essential to diagnose, treat, and study Parkinson's disease among historically marginalized populations living in remote and relatively unindustrialized regions of the world. The diagnosis and monitoring of the motor manifestations of the disease depends on in-person examination of the speed, amplitude, and frequency of movement by trained providers. Digital health technologies allow synchronous, remote, video-based access to trained providers able to diagnose and monitor the progression of Parkinson's disease using clinical rating scales. Digital health technologies can be expensive, and their use requires sustainable access to trained providers, powerful computers and high-speed internet that are not widely available for historically marginalized populations, such as those living in remote Andean regions of Latin America. Local adaptation of health technologies could be promoted in partnership with historically marginalized communities to study their unique epidemiology while building local capacity to expand care and support community-driven education and research efforts.3 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
