Design of a mobile application for the school enrollment process in order to prevent Covid-19
    (ASTES Publishers, 2020-01-01)
In 2020, a great change occurred around the world due to the covid-19 pandemic, daily activities were restructured and thanks to technological advance it has been an ideal means to carry out remote work. With regard to education in Peru, it was paralyzed for a long time and only obtained in later months the option of video offerings software for the interaction of teachers and students, given these new activities carried out. In schools, we are proposing a mobile application prototype that is adaptable to any school in Perú in order to facilitate the registration process of parents for their children due to the global crisis that we are going through. Parents will have a follow-up and ideal control for your children. The methodology that will help us to carry out this application will be the agile methodology with the scrum framework, since it adapts to the needs of the client, and to the constant changes in the development process of the mobile application. Since high student demand requires fast delivery of the application with cost and time efficiency. The mobile application to which students and tutors will be automatically transferred will have easy access to use it in the registration processes and in their academic controls. Our task is created in three points of view, student, tutor and teacher. The student was validated, with the registration or registration and login for the students already registered. Where the student can validate their personal data already registered and see their school monitoring, such as grades, attendance, courses, schedules and payments. The result obtained is the proposal of a productive approach, optimizing the license plate control processes, through a mobile application, where each agent can perform this function, and thus reduce the risk of contagion in these moments of pandemic. And so, in this way, interconnect all the enrollments, the benefactors in a system, saving their information and the data of the students. With these results, it will be of great benefit for the school to minimize the time and thus increase the competitiveness between the schools, also for the parents and for the students who despite the difficulties continue to progress in life.

Ecosyndemics: The potential synergistic health impacts of highways and dams in the Amazon
    (Elsevier, 2020-05-15)
Ecosyndemics refer to disease interactions that result from environmental changes commonly caused by humans. In this paper, we push scholarship on ecosyndemics into new territory by using the ecosyndemic framework to compare two case studies—the Southern Interoceanic highway in Peru and the Belo Monte hydroelectric dam in Brazil—to assess the likelihood of socio-environmental factors interacting and leading to ill health in a syndemic fashion. Assessing these two case studies using an ecosyndemic perspective, we find that the construction of dams and highways in tropical forests create the conditions for increases in vector-borne illnesses, surges in sex work and sexually-transmitted infections, and increased psychological stress resulting from violence, delinquency, and the erosion of social cohesion. We suggest that these processes could interact synergistically to increase an individual's immune burden and a population's overall morbidity. However, we find differences in the impacts of the Interoceanic highway and the Belo Monte dam on food, water, and cultural systems, and observed that community and corporate-level actions may bolster health in the face of rapid socio-ecological change. Looking at the case studies together, a complex picture of vulnerability and resilience, risk and opportunity, complicates straight-forward predictions of ecosyndemic interactions resulting from these development projects but highlights the role that the ecosyndemic concept can play in informing health impact assessments and future research. We conclude by proposing a conceptual model of the potential interactions between psychological stress, vector-borne illnesses, and sexaully-transmitted infections and suggest that future investigations of synergistic interactions among these factors draw from the biological, social, and ecological sciences.

The influence of ethnic identity on Peruvian quinoa consumption: a top Lima and modern metropolitan Lima approach
    (BioMed Central Ltd, 2022-12-01)
The International Year of Quinoa (IYQ) (2013) showcased quinoa to the world and generated a rapid expansion in international demand for quinoa. It also increased the level of consumption in Peru. Peruvian ethnic identity reflects the food culture of origin. This research aims to determine the relationship between ethnic identity and other Theory of Planned Behavior factors on quinoa consumption intention and frequency of consumers in Top Lima and Modern Metropolitan Lima, Peru. A survey of 381 respondents was conducted between April and September 2017, and structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data. Contrary to expectations, intention and frequency of consumption of quinoa were negatively affected by “ethnic identity” (p < 0.05). This result is related to the promotion by the IYQ and Marca Perú (brand name Peru) and the gastronomic boom.

    (IJETAE Publication House, 2022-02-01)
The Peruvian health system has presented various deficiencies, one in particular is the difficulty and time for a user to schedule a medical appointment, in various health centers nationwide it is a problem for many citizens to easily access the health service. This research proposes developing a mobile app that allows automating this process by streamlining the procedures that lead to good health management to optimize both financial and human resources for better performance, quality and user experience that is insured at the service of ESSALUD. The results show that digital transformation and modernization with the support of technology significantly improve health management and therefore the medical appointment process, as well as other aspects that reduce the time of care and guarantee a reduction in the administrative work of the personnel of health allowing them to spend more time in patient care. Keywords—artificial intelligence; health; health management; machine learning; medical appointment

Country without oxygen: Institutional weakness in COVID-19
(Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, 2024-04-01)
One of the leading causes of the impact magnitude of COVID-19 in Peru was the lack of medical oxygen. What explains this oxygen shortage, which is high even by regional standards? This article presents a response from the perspective of the legacies of the Peruvian health system. First, a structural cause. The historical deficiencies of the health system and specific characteristics linked to outsourcing services led to a low capacity to provide this resource. Second, an institutional legacy. A 2010 regulation established a purity requirement of 99% for medical oxygen. This percentage, which is well above international standards, reduced the offer, concentrating it on two providers. The case of the Ayacucho region, which has a better supply of oxygen thanks to two high-volume tanks, illustrates some of these dynamics and the importance of this resource in saving lives.

Mapping global research in the field of health biotechnology for the period 1990–2023: A bibliometric analysis
    (Emerald Publishing Limited, 2024-09-16)
Purpose The purpose of this study focused on a global longitudinal bibliometric mapping of research in the field of health biotechnology between 1990 and 2023 to determine who is leading this field of knowledge and to estimate the sub-disciplines that are emerging and project those that will prevail in the future. Design/methodology/approach The study identified the most relevant countries, institutions and researchers, as well as the type of scientific collaborations. The applied steps applied in the study were the following: identification and selection of keyword terms by a panel of experts; design and application of an algorithm to identify these selected keywords in titles, abstracts and keywords using Web of Science terms to contrast them; performance of JCR data processing during 2023 using R, Python and VOSviewer. Findings Among the most relevant conclusions of the study are the following exponential growth has been observed in the study period; new branches of knowledge have emerged in which the subjects have been acquiring their own autonomous capabilities; and R&D in this field is still concentrated in a small group of core countries, and the trend is for it to remain so due to the capacity needs required. Originality/value This contribution seeks to systematize the existing scientific knowledge in the field of biotechnology, specifically in the area of health, using the technique of scientific mapping based on a logical model of indicators that aims to determine potential thematic ramifications.

The effects of social pensions on nutrition-related health outcomes of the poor: Quasi-experimental evidence from Peru
(John Wiley and Sons Ltd, 2024-05-01)
This paper exploits the discontinuity around a welfare index of eligibility to assess the impact of Peru's social pension program Pension 65 on nutrition-related health outcomes among elderly poor individuals. Overall, we find evidence of how a relatively inexpensive program can produce improvements in anemia and nutrition-related mortality risk markers. The effects appear to be driven by plausible underlying mechanisms, including via improved nutritional quality as well as greater food expenditures and healthcare utilization. These positive effects are only modestly countered by tentative signs of an increased obesity risk among women in the short term (<2 years), but not beyond this term. As the program evolves further, policymakers need to confront the challenge of continuing to ensure the health benefits in terms of reducing nutritional deficits while avoiding potential undesirable side effects in terms of over-nutrition in Peru. The findings may serve to highlight the wider benefits of similar pension policies for the poor also in other middle income countries, well beyond the immediate economic welfare effects that the policies have primarily been designed for.

The Lancet Countdown South America: Increasing Health Opportunities by Identifying the Gaps in Health and Climate Change Research
    (Elsevier Ltd, 2023-10-01)
South America is experiencing the effects of climate change, including extreme weather events and changes in temperature and precipitation patterns. These effects interact with existing social vulnerabilities, exacerbating their impact on the health and wellbeing of populations. This viewpoint highlights four main messages from the series, which presented key gaps from five different perspectives of health and climate. First, there is an overall need for local analyses of priority topics to inform public policy, which include national and sub-national evidence to adequately strengthen responses and preparedness for climate change hazards and address relevant social vulnerabilities in South American countries. Second, research in health and climate is done in silos and the intersection is not clear in terms of responsibility and leadership; therefore, transdisciplinary research and action are key. Third, climate research, policies, and action need to be reflected in effective funding schemes, which until now are very limited. For adaptation and mitigation policies to be effective, they need a robust and long-term funding scheme. Finally, climate action is a big opportunity for healthier and more prosperous societies in South America, taking the advantage of strategic climate policies to face the challenges of climate change and tackle existing social inequities.

Food Technology Forecasting: A Bibliometric Update in Functional Chocolates
    (Elsevier Ltd, 2023-09-01)
Technology forecasting (TF) based on bibliometric tools allows knowing the technological trends of developed topics based on experience and current knowledge, thus anticipating future changes. To reduce hunger and improve nutrition, the food-based topic is of central concern, especially functional food. Among these, various studies on chocolates have been performed. On a global scale, these products are at the level of patents, with China leading it, vastly outperforming the cocoa-producing countries. Though no known functional chocolates are sold under that specific name, chocolates on the market serve as “carriers” of bioactive compounds. Unfortunately, they cannot be attributed to health properties since these properties have to be evaluated with in vitro, in vivo, and clinical studies. Launching functional chocolate on the market is possible; however, it would be a long-term process involving previous stages such as studying its ingredients' bioactive properties, laboratory-level product development, functional properties, and quality and acceptance parameters. For research purposes, it is possible to speak of functional chocolates, potentially functional chocolates, or chocolates enriched with bioactive compounds since the development of research does not necessarily involve launching the product on the market.
