Assessing the Impact of Corporate Entrepreneurship in the Financial Performance of Subsidiaries of Colombian Business Groups: Under Environmental Dynamism Moderation
    (Research Square, 2020-10-26)
Abstract Corporate entrepreneurship creates opportunities in employment, technological advances, value creation, and cultural transformation for entrepreneurial ecosystems, entrepreneurs, governments, economies and society around the globe. The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of corporate entrepreneurship on the financial performance of subsidiaries of Colombian business groups under the moderating effect of the environmental dynamism, because the relationship between corporate entrepreneurship and financial performance in emerging economies must differ from developed economies. Using a cross-sectional structural equation modeling analysis, this study assessed the impact of entrepreneurial orientation and corporate venturing on the firm financial performance of 87 subsidiaries of Colombian business groups at different levels of environmental dynamism. This study confirms that the relationship between corporate entrepreneurship and performance is context-dependent, and that entrepreneurial orientation has a strong and positive causal relationship to corporate venturing. Additionally, subsidiaries of Colombian business groups increase their financial performance when they increase entrepreneurial orientation and decrease financial performance when they increase corporate venturing. Furthermore, the results with and without environmental dynamism are similar. This paper would contribute to important areas in Latin America business where such studies are scarce.

Creating shared value and social innovation: Cases of success from South American entrepreneurial ventures
    (IGI Global, 2020-12-04)
This multiple case study of nine entrepreneurial ventures with social emphasis operating in Colombia, Peru, and Chile identifies vital elements that make these firms impactful in three dimensions: economic, environmental, and social. The results found that the founder's proximity to the social/ecological problem is a trigger to start up a business. The "purpose" is a motivational factor to both start up a business and keep the business during hard times, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose is the fuel, but it does not guarantee the success of the company. The value proposition is the critical factor for success. These companies are continually re-inventing and changing their value proposition while keeping the purpose of the organization as a keystone. The authors shed light on a model for social entrepreneur-ship in South America.

Productive-prosociality, tensions of a solidarity-based entrepreneurial subjectivity: A study with Peruvian social entrepreneurs

Constraints and opportunities for entrepreneurship in Peru and Chile: A discussion about institutions and social networks in Latin America
    (Universidad Católica del Norte, 2020-05-01)
Entrepreneurial activity involves many risks and challenges along its life cycle, even more when it is in its very beginning phase. New organizations have a strong necessity to find strategic and valuable resources to achieve their growth and survival while they are taking their first steps in business. In addition to this, countries’ entrepreneurship represents different opportunities like technological development or renewable energy innovations, but for Latin America it means a powerful engine for the economy, thousands of jobs and a reliable way to get rid of poverty. This paper aims to discuss how social networks can be a useful mechanism for entrepreneurs in Latin America to obtain valuable resources from external sources. The method employs a descriptive and exploratory focus, as well as an inductive approach for its conclusions. Results of the paper present different programs carried out by Chilean and Peruvian governments that promote entrepreneurial networks, and how these can be useful to the entrepreneurs’ business activities. Even when these programs need to extend their initiatives, covering a larger scope of entrepreneurs, the study concludes by focusing on the importance of networks promoted by these local institutions as a part of entrepreneurial initial operational phase under turbulent conditions, where valuable resource are scarce and the surrounding institutional environment is weak.

Microenterprise and applied corporate social responsibility
    (Eagora Science, 2022-01-01)

University extension and innovative university: an exploratory review in the UFSC institutional repository
(Fundação para Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento da Administração, Contabilidade e Economia (Fundace), 2022-02-08)
This research aims to analyze the academic production on the themes of innovative university and university extension, in the institutional repository of UFSC. It is a qualitative study, with a bibliographic approach, using the Systematic Search Flow (SSF) method. As a result, university management is crucial for extension projects in promoting results for society; it was found that the term entrepreneurial university is more used than innovative university, meaning acting in teaching-research-extension, which is understood as innovation and entrepreneurship, with the transfer of knowledge to the market, using mechanisms of protection, becoming an intangible asset. The emergence of the innovative/entrepreneurial university is evident in the innovation ecosystem, considering the university-industry-government cooperation since the teaching-research-extension triad represent the pillars for the scope of the university’s actions in society.

Entrepreneurship profile of students from two Peruvian universities: A comparative study
    (Universidad Nacional, 2024-05-01)
The insertion into the labor market of university students is one of the most important motivations for pursuing higher education. At present, entrepreneurship is presented as an option that is becoming increasingly relevant. Objective. Identify and differentiate the way in which the entrepreneurship profile differs based on the population group to which the student belongs, influenced by sociodemographic factors. Methodology. Non-experimental, comparative-transversal, with a sample of 250 students from public and private universities, to whom a questionnaire of questions was administered to the students using the survey technique. To cross-reference the information and note the differences, we conducted a descriptive analysis using cross tables. To verify the hypotheses, the Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used. Findings. It was identified that the only factor with significant value is the student’s work activity (0.027), while the other sociodemographic aspects presented a p-value > 0.05. Conclusion. There are no significant differences in the entrepreneurship profile in eight of the nine aspects evaluated. Implications. The entrepreneurship profile appears to be conditioned by the student’s current work activity.
