Item type:Publication, Environmental regulation and foreign trade: An analysis for the CAN and MERCOSUR trade blocs in the period 2001–2019(Taylor and Francis Ltd., 2024-01-01)This study examines the impact of trade and environmental agreements on trade in the Andean Community (CAN) and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) during the period 2001–2019. Using a panel data methodology, the study analyses the effects of ratifying a number of agreements (the Paris Agreement, the Kyoto Protocol, the Nagoya Protocol, and Free Trade Agreements with the European Union) on total exports and imports. The results reveal that environmental regulations have a differentiated impact on the exports and imports of both trade blocs. These findings underscore the importance of trade and environmental agreements in promoting sustainable trade and emphasize the need for ongoing monitoring of their implementation to foster equitable and sustainable growth in the region. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Impacto de las cláusulas de transferencia tecnológica e innovación en los acuerdos comerciales regionales(Universidade de Sao Paolo, 2023-01-01)International trade is one of the main vehicles to promote the technology transfer as it contributes to the generation of new products with greater added value, expanding export opportunities and diversification, as well as the insertion of domestic companies in global value chains. This article seeks to determine the impact of the technology related provisions in the main trade agreements that are signed by Latin America and the Caribbean countries in the last 20 years on the level of exports, particularly on the export of goods in technology-intensive sectors. It attempts to analyze whether this effect varies between North-South and South-South trade agreements, especially in the case of the Pacific Alliance. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Innovation, digital adoption, and firm performance in Peru: a quasi-experimental analysis using ENI 2025(Taylor & Francis, 2026-01-01)This paper estimates the causal impact of innovation activities, digital technology adoption, and public support programs on firm performance using firm-level data from Peru's National Innovation Survey, covering 1,967 manufacturing and knowledge-intensive service firms over the 2022–2024 period. To address endogenous selection into innovation, we implement propensity score matching and estimate average treatment effects on the treated across multiple outcomes–revenues, labor productivity, and digital market engagement–using alternative matching algorithms. Firms engaging in innovation experience substantial gains, with revenues 19–39% and labor productivity 14–28% higher than comparable firms. AI adoption raises the probability of online sales by 13–15 percentage points and digital revenue share by 4–5 percentage points, while also improving productivity. In contrast, government support effects are less robust and sensitive to matching specifications, consistent with programs targeting lower-performing firms rather than generating immediate gains. Overall, the findings highlight the central role of advanced digital technologies in shaping firm heterogeneity in emerging economies, and suggest that AI operates as a substitute for–rather than a complement to–pre-existing digital infrastructure, refining the absorptive-capacity framework for infrastructure-constrained settings.2
