Item type:Publication, Entrepreneurial Passion and Self-Efficacy as Factors Explaining Innovative Behavior: A Mediation Model(2020-07-01)Purpose: Dynamic and successful entrepreneurs and an enabling business environment are necessary if a company has to grow sustainably. However, research on the most important factors for entrepreneurs to be successful is still scarce. This paper analyzes the mediating effect of entrepreneurial passion -a key trait in successful entrepreneurs -on the relationship between entrepreneurial self-efficacy and innovative behavior. Design/Methodology/Approach: Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used in a sample of 358 participants in the same number of companies. Findings: Results show that there is a significant complementary mediation effect of entrepreneurial passion on the relationship between entrepreneurial self-efficacy and innovative behavior. Practical Implications: This finding is important in order to further advance the understanding of the direct and indirect causes of entrepreneurial behavior. Originality/Value: Finally, this is especially important for understanding innovative behavior in an emerging economy with particular cultural, macro-economic and social characteristics. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Brand ageing: an analysis from a Latin American perspective(Emerald, 2021-11-11)Acknowledging that brands age over time, this paper aims to investigate the exogenous and endogenous factors that influence this phenomenon. Design/methodology/approach The literature on brand ageing is scarce. Through a study of several Colombian organisations that have an international presence, the paper uses a grounded-theory qualitative methodology, including in-depth interviews and documentary brand reviews over a longitudinal time dimension, to perform an analysis of specific aspects that affect brand ageing processes. Findings The results revealed that the factors that determine brand ageing can be classified into the following two subgroups: exogenous (conditions of the economic environment, category conditions, entrance of new competitors, ageing current consumers and entry of new consumers) and endogenous (organisational growth, upper management convictions, marketing structure, brand architecture, inappropriate naming and obsolete brand image) factors. Originality/value This research provides substantial academic value and insights that allow a better understanding of specific aspects that influence the brand ageing process. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The effect of family supportive supervisor behaviors and work-family culture on turnover intention and work-family conflict(Growing Science, 2021-01-01)The of this research was to look into the work-life interface of professionals in a de-manding and high-risk occupation in an organization in the security sector. Specifically, it focuses on the interaction between supervisor behaviors and culture with turnover intention and work-family conflict. The present study centers on data from a public security organization (3861) in a Latin American country. The validity of the measuring instruments was evaluated through Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was then applied to evaluate the relationship between variables. Results found show a statistically significant negative impact of the supervisor behaviors in organizational (turnover intention) and individual outcomes (work-family conflict). At the same time, organizational culture negatively affects turnover intentions and work-family conflict. While confirming results coming from the private sector in other countries, the importance of supervisor behaviors and culture provides implications for work and family practices in this type of organization. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Entrepreneurial leadership, work engagement, and innovative work behavior: The moderating role of gender(2022-05-01)This research examines the effect of entrepreneurial leadership on innovative work behavior and the mediation of work engagement in that relationship. Additionally, it evaluates the moderation of gender in this relationship. Design/Methodology/Approach: We use data from medium-sized companies in Guayaquil and Quito in Ecuador. Through the use of a structural equation model, we analyze the mediating effect of work engagement in the relationship between entrepreneurial leadership and innovative behavior and the moderating role of gender. Findings: The results show that entrepreneurial leadership has a significant positive impact on innovative behavior. Likewise, we find evidence for a significant mediation effect of work engagement in the relationship between entrepreneurial leadership and innovative work behavior. Additionally, gender moderation is verified, showing that the impact of entrepreneurial leadership on innovative behavior is stronger in women than in men. Originality/value: This study proposes a new model considering three constructsentrepreneurial leadership, work engagement, and innovative work behavior-which will serve future research on these topics. With these findings, we contribute new knowledge to both the scientific community and the management of firms. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Eco-innovation and firm performance: Evidence from South America(MDPI, 2022-08-01)Eco-innovation has received a great deal of attention in academia and the business sector because it promotes a firm’s sustainable development and seeks to improve its performance. The prime objective of this study was to analyze the effect of the process, organization, and product eco-innovation on the company’s financial and environmental performance. Using a structural equation model estimated by maximum likelihood and a sample from 214 South American manufacturing companies in Colombia, Ecuador, and Perú, we found that organizational eco-innovation (OE) and process eco-innovation (PCE) are positively and significantly associated with the firm’s environmental and financial performance. In contrast, product eco-innovation (PDE) is not significantly associated with the two types of performance described. Likewise, OE has a significant and positive indirect influence on PDE, environmental performance, and financial performance. These findings suggest that OE and PCE positively affect the firm’s performance. On the contrary, PDE does not have this effect, extending the discussion that eco-innovation is specific to the context of the study. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Psychological capital and turnover intention: The mediating role of burnout among healthcare professionals(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2024-02-01)Psychological capital (PsyCap) has been identified as an individual’s positive psychological state of development that can help to reduce negative organizational outcomes. However, there is still a gap in understanding how PsyCap influences different aspects of organizations. This study investigates the mediating role of burnout in the relationship between PsyCap and turnover intentions among healthcare professionals. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 320 healthcare professionals. The estimation of the relationships between PsyCap, burnout, and turnover intentions was obtained through structural equation modelling (SEM). A mediation analysis was carried out using bootstrapping procedures. The results show that burnout has a significant and positive effect on turnover intention and PsyCap has a significant and negative effect on burnout. Moreover, burnout fully mediates the relationship between PsyCap and turnover intention. These findings suggest that PsyCap can effectively reduce negative outcomes like burnout, but its positive impact may be limited when considering other outcomes such as turnover intention. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Intellectual capital and financial performance in small manufacturing companies: The moderating effect of managerial ambidexterity(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2024-01-01)We verify the moderating effect of managerial ambidexterity on the relationship between intellectual capital and financial performance of small manufacturing companies in Peru. The study used a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 506 small manufacturing firms. To determine the hypothesised model’s validity and reliability, we performed an exploratory factor analysis using a rotated component matrix to group questions within their corresponding constructs. Next, we assessed convergent and discriminant validity using measures such as Cronbach’s alpha, composite reliability, and average variance extracted. Finally, we tested the model hypotheses using structural equation modelling. SPSS 27 and AMOS 24 were used for all analyses. The study showed that there is a partial moderating effect of managerial ambidexterity on the relationship between intellectual capital and financial performance of small manufacturing firms in Peru. Additionally, statistical analysis showed that managerial ambidexterity moderates the direct relationship between structural capital and relational capital with financial performance, while no moderation effect was observed for human capital. This study provides valuable information for academia and management as it is the first to analyse the relationship between intellectual capital and financial performance, considering the moderating effect of managerial ambidexterity in small manufacturing firms in Peru. This innovative approach makes a significant contribution to scientific knowledge by investigating how managerial ambidexterity affects the financial performance of businesses in emerging economies, an area that has received little prior research. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Moderation of Clean Energy Innovation in the Relationship Between the Carbon Footprint and Profits in CO₂e-Intensive Firms: A Quantitative Longitudinal Study(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2023-07-01)This paper sought to analyze the moderating effect of clean energy innovation on the relationship between corporate carbon footprint and corporate profits in fossil fuel intensive industrial sectors in which it is “hard to abate” CO₂e emissions. We used a longitudinal design consisting of a panel study with a structural equation modeling (SEM) method, based on partial least squares. For the analysis of longitudinal moderation, this paper employed a Bayesian multiple-indicator latent growth curve model (B-LGC model). A global sample was used, consisting of 7827 firm-year observations between 2015 and 2021 for 167 international firms. The results showed that the corporate carbon footprint had a very significant impact on corporate profits and that innovations in clean energy—measured as renewable energy consumption—positively moderate the relationship between Scope 3 value chain greenhouse gas emissions (according to the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol) and the gross profit margin obtained. In addition to the academic contributions made by the moderating effect of clean energy innovation, these findings imply that a more detailed understanding of total value chain emissions (Scope 3 CO₂e) among executives and managers at high CO₂e-emitting companies offers an effective mechanism for obtaining higher profits and creating competitive advantages, while at the same time achieving a net zero emissions strategy. More importantly, public policymakers will be able to use these results to revise CO₂e-related policies, paying closer attention to the Scope 3 CO₂e emissions produced by these companies to design regulatory and control mechanisms that stimulate clean energy innovation. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Management of Coopetitive Tensions in SMEs of the Ecuadorian Agro-Industrial Sector: Conflicts, Rivalries, and Interests(Cogent OA, 2023-01-01)The purpose of the research was to identify the sources of tensions, the factors that determine their magnitude and the circumstances that influence the management of said tensions in the context of coopetitive interactions between SMEs belonging to the agro-industrial sector of Ecuador. In the study, carried out with a qualitative approach using multiple case studies and grounded theory, 25 cases of companies belonging to the banana, cocoa, shrimp, and flowers subsectors of that country were included, in which 54 executives and 15 management experts participated strategic. The results indicate that the tensions and conflicts that occur in coopetitive relationships derive from unilateral factors associated with the organization, and from multilateral factors associated with the sector or the market. The study highlights the importance of strengthening the ability to manage tensions and conflicts that occur between companies that compete and collaborate simultaneously to increase the perceived value of the customer and the network, even in the presence of conflicts, rivalries, and divergent interests. This implies that interested parties must be able to deploy new inter-business interactions based on trust, mutual respect, and recognition of legitimate interests, with the aim of sharing resources, reducing costs, and taking advantage of new business opportunities. The novelty of the research lies in the fact that it is the first study that addresses, from an empirical perspective, the way in which the coopetitive paradox manifests itself in Ecuadorian SMEs.
