Item type:Publication, Cursos de vida y perfiles biográficos de adolescentes en situación de abandono escolar(Sociedad de Investigación Educativa Peruana, 2020-07-08)El artículo propone un modelo de interpretación del abandono escolar de adolescentes de ambos sexos, a partir del enfoque del curso de vida y de un análisis de datos biográficos. Para ello, se fundamenta en una observación del entrelazado entre las trayectorias individuales, familiares e institucionales, y de los factores de vulnerabilidad que condicionan el abandono del sistema educativo. Mediante una investigación de corte cualitativo, constituida de historias de vida realizadas en una muestra de 33 adolescentes de 3 departamentos del Perú (Lima, Ayacucho y Pucallpa), el análisis de los resultados evidencia un conjunto de perfiles biográficos que confirman la diversidad del fenómeno. El modelo propuesto muestra que, en algunos casos, el abandono es el resultado de un proceso que se manifiesta por un deterioro progresivo e inalterado de la relación entre los adolescentes, la familia y la institución escolar, mientras que, en otros casos, se trata de la consecuencia de un evento detonante que marca una ruptura en el curso de vida de los adolescentes. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Hacia un uso renovado de la matriz Ageven en el análisis cualitativo de las biografías(Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería, 2022-10-28)This article starts by briefly recalling the essential features of the biographical approach, the associated paradigm of the life course, and the origins of the Ageven form, a tool developed in the 1980s as part of the retrospective studies and demographic analysis of biographies. Next, we present a new version of this tool for its use in qualitative analysis, involving the individual, family, and contextual levels of observation, and including the identification of sequences in the life stories, based on the biographical turning points. In this way, the Ageven form can be converted into a tool for simultaneously representing and analyzing a wide range of qualitative biographical data. Item type:Publication, Transnational care and old age. Theoretical approaches and pending debates(Arturo Prat University, 2022-01-01)El presente artículo tiene como objetivo revisar la literatura vinculada a los estudios sobre cuidados transnacionales, específicamente a la población adulta que queda en el país de origen cuando los hijos emigran. Para esto, se ha realizado una búsqueda, revisión y sistematización de la literatura internacional (libros y artículos) y de revistas de estudios migratorios, de género y familia. Planteamos que en esta discusión convergen dos ejes analíticos. El primero de ellos proviene de los estudios sobre familias migrantes transnacionales y el segundo, de los estudios sobre cuidados. A través de la revisión de la literatura identificamos los principales aportes que cada uno de estos ejes entrega al análisis de los cuidados de las personas mayores en contextos migratorios transnacionales y revisamos a su vez algunas ausencias y puntos ciegos con el objetivo de puntualizar agendas emergentes de investigación en esta temática. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Transnational families in crisis context: Mobility and (non)family arrangements of Venezuelans in Peru(Universidad Pontificia Comillas de Madrid, 2024-01-01)Since 2016, Latin America has witnessed a massive migratory phenomenon of Venezuelans leaving their homeland to survive the crisis. These migrations, mostly individual, lead to the creation of transnational families characterized by a system of solidarity across the distance between the destination country and Venezuela. This article explores the formation, arrangements, and modes of organization of these families. Based on retrospective interviews with 51 Venezuelan migrants of both sexes settled in Peru, it analyses the various forms of transnational family and the limits in observing this concept. In addition to money transfers and communication between migrants and non-migrants, the research highlights two configurations of this type of family, in relation to the urgency of addressing food security concerns and the aspirations of other family members within this space of regional mobility. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Woman traders and cross-border circuits: Articulations between care and mobility on the borders of Peru, Bolivia and Chile(Universidad Autonoma de Baja California, 2024-01-01)Cross-border trade is predominantly conducted by women, and involves the movement and articulation of extensive networks for the circulation (formal or not) of products. Engaging with the perspectives of mobility and gender in border studies, this article examines the configuration of cross-border circuits of women traders. The article demonstrates how commercial activities and caregiving are intertwined in these circuits and discusses this overlap through four socio-spatial arrangements: home, places of sale, border crossing and supply locations. The research is based in two Peruvian cities with border conditions—Tacna (bordering Chile) and Puno (bordering Bolivia)—and involved 62 semi-structured interviews with women engaged in various commercial activities in 2022-2023, primarily second-hand clothing and groceries. These activities are part of a global chain of merchandise circulation that closely links the three countries (Bolivia, Chile, and Peru). - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Aseguramiento de la calidad y becas en la educación superior peruana: Permanencia y abandono estudiantil durante la pandemia de COVID-19(2024-12-27)Este artículo examina los cambios recientes en el sistema de educación superior en Perú como parte de su proceso de aseguramiento de la calidad y la influencia de éstos en la capacidad de respuesta del sistema frente a la pandemia. Asimismo, pone atención en las experiencias de los estudiantes becarios pertenecientes a poblaciones vulnerables y los factores que contribuyeron o no a su permanencia en la universidad en el contexto de crisis sanitaria del Covid 19. El estudio se realizó en seis universidades (públicas y privadas) de tres regiones del Perú, a través de una metodología cualitativa remota. Los resultados muestran que las universidades estaban en mejores condiciones para afrontar la pandemia gracias al proceso de aseguramiento de la calidad y que les permitió fortalecerse en una serie de aspectos, así como a las instancias encargadas de su regulación y supervisión. Asimismo, las becas resultaron un soporte fundamental para la continuidad de los becarios en el sistema al asegurar el acceso a recursos y conectividad. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Dinámicas y determinantes de la transición demográfica en Perú(Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México, 2024-03-19)La transición demográfica designa la reducción progresiva de las tasas brutas de la natalidad y de la mortalidad según ritmos diferenciados entre los países. El objetivo del artículo es evidenciar la periodización de este proceso en Perú, mostrando su tipificación entre los modelos identificados en América latina y caracterizando su heterogeneidad territorial. A partir de la información brindada por CEPALSTAT, los censos de población y las ENDES, se propone una delimitación temporal de la transición demográfica y un análisis de los determinantes del descenso de la fecundidad en torno a variables asociadas con la “modernización sociocultural”, como la expansión de la educación y el mayor acceso a la planificación familiar. Asimismo, la desagregación territorial de los resultados da cuenta de un desfase de dos a tres décadas en los ritmos de transición demográfica entre las áreas urbanas y rurales del país. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Siblings negotiations in the transnational care of non-migrant parents in Peru(El Colegio de la Frontera Norte, 2024-01-01)Based on fourteen in-depth interviews with Peruvian migrants living in Switzerland, the article analyzes the family arrangements between migrant and non-migrant siblings on behalf of their parents living in Peru. The findings highlight that decision-making is affected by power relations, where gender and economic resources play a decisive role. Sibling negotiations are also related to the capacity to fulfil the filial duty of taking care and feeling recognized as the son or daughter who takes care of the parents, just as the parents did when the siblings were children. While the sample covers a group of migrants settled in Switzerland who achieved important levels of social, cultural, and labor integration, the results provide insights on transnational care issues that are applicable to other South-North migration contexts. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Care and Transnational Families: Perspectives from Older Adults, Mothers, and Fathers of Peruvian Emigrants(Universidad del Pacifico Press, 2023-09-30)This article explores the organization of transnational care provided to older people whose one of their children lives abroad. Based on interviews conducted mainly with older mothers, it analyses the articulation between care received locally and at long distance, the practices they provide to care for family members, and their self-care activities to support themselves in an «independent» old age. Item type:Publication, CROSS-BORDER MOBILITY AND FAMILY CARE THROUGH LIFE CYCLES: EXPERIENCES OF WOMEN TRADERS IN THE PERU-BOLIVIA-CHILE SPACE(Arturo Prat University, 2025-01-01)This article aims to analyze the changes and continuities in women's trading practices and care responsibilities in the trinational space between Peru, Bolivia, and Chile, examining how they articulate and negotiate their commercial and family roles at different stages of their lives. The central hypothesis posits the existence of regular patterns in the adaptation of trading and care practices according to the life cycle, arguing that participation in trade begins at an early age and intensifies when family responsibilities decrease. The study uses a biographical approach based on retrospective interviews conducted with 62 women traders from different generations in Puno and Tacna. The analysis employs the Ageven form to structure individual trajectories and an adaptation of the Lexis diagram to visualize generational patterns. The findings reveal how women develop adaptive strategies that vary according to their life cycles, highlighting the importance of intergenerational transmission of trading knowledge and the persistent tension between economic autonomy and reproduction of traditional gender roles.1
