Item type:Publication, Supply Chain Innovation and Sustainability Frontiers: A Balanced Scorecard Perspective(Springer, 2020-01-01)Global trade has been growing at a steady pace since the 1950s, which has brought increasing operational challenges to supply chains. Technological advances and the “digital revolution” bring new opportunities to improve key supply chain processes in many sectors, including transportation. However, while embracing innovation, firms have to ensure that they do not lose strategic focus and that their performance measurement systems continue to evolve. This study explores how disruptive innovations in supply chain operations may produce unexpected outcomes for firms’ strategy. We analyze four examples of technological innovation in transport under a Balanced Scorecard framework. Our reflections shed light on the potential trade-offs that organizations may face between different dimensions of performance to pursue sustainable development goals. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Addressing sustainability challenges through supply chain managers’ transformative leadership behavior(Springer, 2021-01-01)Sustainability concerns are far beyond individual action of the organizations or even countries. Instead, global supply chains have demonstrated their potential as powerful networks of integration, connecting the most important economic activities in the world. Nevertheless, supply chains have to rely on their leaders to achieve a proper performance, so adding a sustainability perspective on these leaders will drive to the incorporation of sustainability practices alongside supply chains at each stage and process. This chapter aims to highlight the importance of adopting a sustainability mindset for supply chains’ leaders, in order to fulfill stakeholders’ expectations regarding social concerns, environmental detriment, and economic welfare. Moreover, we discuss how a transformative leadership would be achieved, by thinking ahead of traditional supply chains’ measures such as price, quality, and speed, finding important insights from real examples. Beyond businesses and supply chain leaders, we also address the need to address sustainability issues in a systems perspective, in which we highlight the crucial role of teaching and learning. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Achieving transparency through blockchain: Sustainability of fishery supply chain management(Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing, 2022-09-23)This paper aimed to discuss how blockchain technology would incorporate several changes in the fishery supply chains, in order to make them more reliable and sustainable. Method: This is a qualitative study, using an exploratory method with descriptive approach. In addition, the literature review in this study presents theoretical contributions regarding utility. Main Results: The study highlights the importance of incorporating blockchain features into seafood supply chains, which are currently fragmented and lack of real-time information, focusing on its traceability potential to leveraging fishery supply chains operations and outcomes. It identifies a sequence of strategic checkpoints that provide real-time information by using blockchain in fishery supply chains. Relevance / Originality: This manuscript presents a diagram of a seafood supply chain considering how blockchain allows the data gathering in each stage in order to provide traceability to the supply chain. Hence, the study serves as a map, as well as a model, for upcoming research on how to understand the incorporation of technology into supply chains stages. Theoretical / Methodological Contributions: Supply chains support international business operations. Furthermore, as digital revolution moves aggressively forward, supply chains need to adapt to it in order to fit for the new stakeholders’ expectations. This study uses sustainable supply chain management and blockchain technology as positioning literature. Management Contributions: The study provides an overview of how fishery supply chains would work by incorporating blockchain technology, which extends the literature about sustainable supply chain management and proposes paths for actions for policymakers in order to make them improve the business ecosystem. This study implies a practical contribution to global value chain perspective and the discipline of business.
