Design / Methodology / Approach: We use the SSF-Systematic Search Flow method, which is applied in systematic and integrative reviews. Results: An entrepreneurial university, committed to the development of its region, is the key factor in achieving regional innovation, a key institution in knowledge-based societies. In the age of knowledge, the university is as important as industry and government; fundamental for the development of knowledge and innovation. As a result, we identified research challenges and opportunities, contributing to the construction of a panorama of Brazilian scientific production in international journals on the themes entrepreneurial university and third mission. Limitations of the investigation: The most important limitation in this study was the long-time collection of research data. Practical implications: Universities must strengthen their relationship with industry and government to transfer knowledge and, at the same time, demonstrate their contribution to the community, fulfilling their third mission, as a vector for regional socioeconomic growth. Originality / Value: We see the opportunity to consolidate studies on the relationship between the third mission and the entrepreneurial university appropriate to the Brazilian reality. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, A contribution of fuzzy logic to sustainable tourism through a case analysis in Brazil(IOS Press, 2020-09-08)Society is increasingly concerned about environmental, social and economic issues. According to the World Tourism Organization, over the past six decades, tourism has experienced a continuous expansion and diversification to become one of the fastest-growing economic sectors in the world. Furthermore, studies affirm the complexity of the tourism sector and the fact that sustainable development depends on various topics that are not correctly identified by managers and policymakers. For these reasons, this paper aims to reflect on the effects of tourism and to propose alternatives that can be sustainably managed. In terms of results, knowledge gaps have been identified and, through a case analysis in Brazil, the forgotten effects of tourism activity that can have an impact on sustainable development have been exposed. Also, an algorithm has been presented to manage uncertainty and facilitate decision-making. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Scientific mapping on the convergence of innovation and sustainability (innovability): 1990–2018(Emerald, 2020-09-17)Purpose Innovation and sustainability are key in today’s competitive world. It is no longer possible to conceive an organization that has not incorporated these two elements for it to become successful. The longitudinal bibliometric study seeks to examine the topography of innovation and sustainability to determine whether there is already a terminological integration that could be defined as innovation capability in a sustainable way. The objective of this work is to identify the growth trajectories of the literature, the countries considered as knowledge nodes, the most influential authors, the classification of journals, clusters and collaborative networks measured by co-citation, the analysis by keywords, countries and knowledge areas. Design/methodology/approach The study is developed under the bibliometric approach, and the period 1990–2018 was considered. The steps taken were as follows: 16 keywords of each term were identified and selected in 3 methodological layers by a panel of experts; an algorithm was designed and applied to identify these selected keywords in the titles, abstracts and keywords using terms in the Web of Science (WoS) of Clarivate Analytics to contrast them; and a review in specialized journals was carried out in the first quartile (Q1) of the WoS until 2018. Findings The most relevant finding of the study lies in the sustained growth of the convergence of the terms innovation and sustainability. In addition, the longitudinal review of the two concepts also shows that innovation is directly linked to sustainability, suggesting that the convergence of concepts and practices becomes part of the strategy of companies seeking to be competitive and sustainable. Practical implications At the management level, this research seeks to present a definition of innovability based on the convergence of the concepts of innovation and sustainability. This new concept can be applied as a management strategy for companies seeking to be competitive and sustainable. Theoretical and practical evidences that reinforce this construct are presented. At the academic level, the manuscript shows a longitudinal review on innovation and sustainability, a relevant scientific mapping and, finally, a new theoretical and practical concept is proposed that seeks to create strategies for competitiveness in a sustainable way. At the level of society, the study contributes to the sustainable development goals. Originality/value The results show that a field of studies on innovation is emerging that has a high potential to position itself as a new space for research. The concept of “innovability” is proposed. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The quintuple helix of innovation model and the SDGs: Latin American countries’ case and its forgotten effects(MDPI AG, 2021-02-02)The sustainable development of countries is associated with a set of actions that must be implemented in the long term. In this process, society must be a valid partner in the decisions that are made. Studies show the interrelationship between the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which increases uncertainty and makes decision-making more difficult. On the other hand, the Quintuple Helix of Innovation Model (QHIM) provides an analytical framework to explain the sys-tems’ interactions. The motivation of the study lies in knowing the relationships between the variables that affect SDGs. The manuscript aims to broaden the discussion on sustainable development and propose two models to support decision making. The first one suggests 20 indicators linked to the QHIM with the SDGs in Latin American countries. The second identifies the forgotten effects through the application of a Fuzzy Logic algorithm. The main contribution is to know these effects and to support decision-making. The research carried out can be classified as applied, with the ex-planatory objective and the combined approach (quantitative-qualitative), modeling and simula-tion, and case study methods. The QHIM results indicate that Chile leads the ranking, followed by Brazil, Mexico, Peru, and Colombia. Also, it reveals the importance of correctly identifying cause-effects by seeking harmony between systems. A limitation would be the number of variables used. The study indicates promising lines of research. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Environmental management, cleaner production and organizational performance: a structural approach(Widener University School of Civil Engineering, 2021-11-01)Organizations can redirect their business models to solve the problem of materials depletion using environmental management and cleaner production as practices of the circular economy. This study aims to measure the relationship between environmental management, cleaner production, and organizational performance. Within this context, a survey of 372 companies was performed in the agro-industrial, manufacturing and construction sectors in three important productive regions of Colombia. Structural Equation Modeling was used for data analysis. The economic sector moderated the relationship between the latent variables. This phenomenon was analyzed using a multi-group technique. The results show that Cleaner production is positively related to Organizational Performance at corporations. The results show that Cleaner production is positively related to Organizational Performance at corporations. It was also observed that Environmental Management influences Cleaner Production. Finally, it is worth noting that productive sectors in Colombia tend to be committed to circular economy practices, some to environmental management and others to cleaner production with an impact on organizational performance. The result of the study may be useful for domestic and foreign investors and managers, for analysts and researchers, and for educators. The rationale behind this is an understanding that interactions between environmental management and cleaner production and organizational performance will influence the academic community or business activity to generate behaviors favoring the environment and sustainable development. These findings will be extremely useful for promoting future research studies on establishing an improved framework for the promotion of environmental management and cleaner production practices primarily among Colombian productive companies. This work can also serve as a reference for other industrial sectors and countries. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Socio-economic and health management of pandemics based on forgotten effects theory(Taylor & Francis, 2022-04-04)Intense and frequent changes increase uncertainty and complexity in decision-making. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbates this situation. Therefore, the decision-maker seeks to reduce risks and meet these challenges. The manuscript aims to identify cause-effect relationships between variables affecting countries and changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and propose an algorithm to facilitate decision-making by identifying forgotten effects. The authors use thematic analysis to synthesize the semi-systematic literature review findings. The applied research uses a quantitative approach through modeling and simulation. The results highlight that the pandemic effects are associated with causes such as health care, political and economic stability, social justice, and the level of corruption. Decision-makers must prioritize the management of these variables guided by science. The main contribution is to show an algorithm that identifies forgotten effects in pandemics' socio-economic and health management, preventing future crises. In addition, the study advances the frontier of knowledge by addressing identified gaps and contributes to academia and policy makers. The most critical limitation is the number of variables included in this research. Future investigations could include analyses on the impact of climate change and sustainable development of nations and country-specific studies on the forgotten effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Structured equations to assess the socioeconomic and business factors influencing the financial sustainability of traditional Amazonian Chakra in the Ecuadorian Amazon(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2024-03-01)This study focuses on investigating the dimensions of sustainability and their influence on financial-economic sustainability (FES) in traditional agroforestry systems (TAFS) using the case of the Amazonian Chakra. The main objectives were to analyze the dimensions of sustainability and to establish the causal relationships between these dimensions and the FES. To carry out this research, 330 households in Napo Province that use the Amazonian Chakra system to grow cocoa were selected in order to analyze the relationship between the different dimensions of sustainability and FES in this unique context. The results of the study show that practices related to food security (FS) and business factors (BF) have a positive and significant impact on the FES of cocoa-producing households in the Amazonian Chakra system. These findings support the importance of ensuring the availability and quality of food and promoting responsible business practices in these environments. In contrast, the dimensions of environmental resilience (ER) and biodiversity conservation (BC) showed a negative impact on FES, highlighting an economic-financial imbalance in relation to conservation and environmental resilience actions in the Amazonian Chakra. This study contributes to the knowledge needed to promote agricultural practices that include an equal focus on FES, biodiversity conservation, and environmental resilience practices in a globally significant area, providing valuable information for the design of sustainable agricultural policies and practices in the Amazonian Chakra.
