Item type:Publication, Mortadelo y Filemón comics about the World Cup: From nationalist stereotypes to ludolinguism(Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, 2024-12-30)Since 1978, in almost every edition of the men’s Soccer World Cup the cartoonist Francisco Ibáñez has created a special cartoon of his characters Mortadelo and Filemón set in that competition. In his cartoons, the teams are represented in the opening parade or in the soccer matches under a series of nationalist stereotypes and the use of ludolinguistics that seek to arouse the identification and humor of the readers, although in some cases the supposed teams do not have a real correspondence with teams belonging to FIFA. The research analyzes how both resources are configured in the humorous illustrations of their selections. From the analysis of the issues of Mortadelo y Filemón about the World Cups, with the exception of the 1986 and 1990 World Cups which did not see the light of day, a change in the graphic representation of national stereotypes is observed; the references to political and cultural aspects frequent in the first albums decrease with time, while the use of resources such as puns or ludolinguistics to refer to the names and members of the soccer teams increases in the humorous illustrations. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
AbstractThe reaction of the British and French Governments against the launch of a European Football Super League was evidence that the nationalist discourse, which has gained traction in recent years, has also spread to the sports field. This article aims to analyze the influence of nationalism on the stance of rejection expressed by the French and English Governments to the launch of a European Super League. The hypothesis that is being tested is that the administrations of Boris Johnson and Emmanuel Macron recognized the political capital provided by presenting a nationalist position in a context in which globalization is presenting setbacks. To comply with this, an exploratory approach was applied from a qualitative content analysis that allowed to recognize the presence of nationalist discourse in the declarations of the governments involved and a tool of Comparative Policy of the Design of Different Systems that allowed to contrast the cases studied. After the analysis, it was observed that both governments appealed to a nationalist discourse in which the defense of local football was supported by an identity, national values and territorial borders. While the British did it from a local perspective, the French from a continental one.
