- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Technological innovation and eco-efficiency in manufacturing companies: Does co-innovation orientation matter?(Elsevier Ltd, 2024-04-10)The rising need for sustainable development poses a critical challenge for manufacturing companies, requiring a fresh perspective on adopting greener practices. One recent approach to enhancing sustainability in manufacturing is the development of innovations in the pursuit of achieving higher eco-efficiency. This study delves into this approach by investigating the effect of technological innovation on eco-efficiency. In addition, this research examines the role of co-innovation orientation in relation to suppliers and customers. In the empirical exercise, an ordered probit model is applied to a sample of 791 manufacturing companies from Peru. Our research reveals a positive association between the distinct types of technological innovation and eco-efficiency, with process innovation yielding the most substantial effect. In terms of co-innovation orientation, we find co-innovation with suppliers to be more effective in driving eco-efficiency through product and process innovations, while co-innovation with customers seems more influential through product-service innovation. We also found that, for companies co-innovating with suppliers (CIS), complementary co-innovation with customers does not influence eco-efficiency. Conversely, for those co-innovating with customers (CIC), the fact that they also co-innovate with suppliers significantly boosts eco-efficiency. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The Effects of Innovations on Peruvian Companies’ Sales: The Mediating Role of KIBS(Elsevier BV, 2023-10-09)Companies increasingly embrace open business-to-business innovation. In this context, knowledge-intensive business services (KIBS) play a crucial role as they can provide services and know-how to companies. As comparisons of digital innovation in Latin American companies are scarce, a more in-depth study is required of the role that KIBS plays in their digital innovation. This study therefore investigates the impact of KIBS and the implementation of innovations, including digital ones, on the sales of companies. Utilizing a Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM), we scrutinize data from 959 companies in Peru. The findings reveal that internally implemented innovations do not have a statistically significant direct effect on sales. However, outsourcing KIBS emerges as a positive mediator in this relationship. Specifically, we find that companies that subcontract those services are more likely to implement innovations and to achieve a positive impact on their sales in the short-term. Despite the opportunities that digital innovation brings, its direct effect on companies’ sales still needs to be improved, especially for manufacturing companies. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Innovation and Performance in Peruvian Manufacturing Firms: Does R&D Play a Role?(Emerald Publishing, 2023-05-05)This paper aims to study whether Peruvian manufacturing firms that implement innovation have positive performance and whether R&D activities moderate these relationships. Design/methodology/approach: Using a data set of Peruvian manufacturing firms from the 2018 National Survey of Innovation, a LOGIT model analysis was applied to 774 companies. In addition, the authors fitted different models into subsamples to explore the moderating effects of R&D on manufacturing firms. Finally, the regression models were computed using R software. Findings: The results indicate that product, service and marketing innovation are associated positively with an increase in market share, while process and organizational innovations are associated positively with productivity. Moreover, companies with R&D are more productivity-oriented than companies without R&D. Research limitations/implications: This study contributes to the literature on innovation management by supporting the assumption that innovation results in increased productivity and expands market demand. In addition, findings highlight that R&D is essential for boosting firms’ productivity. Practical implications: Managers should consider an appropriate combination of the innovation portfolio and R&D investments to make progress and increase performance in the company. In addition, policymakers should consider that investments to promote the development of R&D activities in manufacturing companies will likely lead to médium- or long-term returns. Social implications: The correct use of indicators to measure these relationships could help the policymaker to design and measure policy instruments more efficiently. Originality/value: These results provide a deeper understanding of how the effects of innovations implemented by manufacturing firms, especially service and process innovation, improve their performance. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Extreme Work Environment and Career Commitment of Nurses: Empirical Evidence from Egypt and Peru(Emerald Publishing Limited, 2023-02-06)Purpose This paper aim to analyse the motives behind the commitment of nurses to their profession despite their intense job duties during the COVID-19 pandemic. Design/methodology/approach The empirical sample comprises of 35 semi-structured interviews with public sector hospital nurses in under-researched contexts of Egypt and Peru. Findings Three types of motives were found to play a critical role in nurses’ commitment to their profession despite the difficulties associated with extreme work conditions. These factors include cultural (religious values, governmental coercion), contextual (limited education, organisational support) and personal (good nurse identity, submissive nature) dimensions. Originality/value This paper is one of the pioneering works to link existing literature streams on career commitment, extreme jobs, extreme context and management under disruptions (particularly COVID-19) by analysing these aspects in the under-researched Peruvian and Egyptian contexts. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Evaluating the Effects of Information Sources on Innovation Outcomes: Are There Differences Between KIBS and Manufacturing Firms From a Latin America Country?(Springer Science+Business Media, 2023-03-25)The aim of this paper is analysing the relationships between sources (internal/external) of information and innovation outcomes (product, service and process) in Peruvian companies. Furthermore, we explore differences and similarities in these relationships when comparing manufacturing firms and knowledge-intensive business services (KIBS) firms. This study presents evidence based on the application of a logit model to a sample of 1141 Peruvian companies, comprising 830 manufacturing firms and 311 KIBS firms. Despite the fact that Peruvian companies do not tend to turn to external sources of information or invest in internal R&D activities, we find positive relationships between sources of information and innovation outcomes in both manufacturing firms and KIBS firms—predominantly process innovation in both cases, followed by product (goods) innovation for manufacturing firms and service innovation for KIBS. Our findings indicate that not all external sources of information have positive effects on product, service and process innovation. Thus, managers should consider proper management of the company’s external relations in order to take advantage of these relationships. Moreover, policymakers should promote interrelationships between the actors in the innovation system (e.g., companies, research centres, universities, etc.) thereby generating opportunities for innovation. This paper provides evidence that the configuration of sources of information (especially internal R&D) plays a significant role in innovation outcomes in both manufacturing firms and KIBS firms, specifically in the context of Latin American countries. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Assessing the New Product Development Process Activities in Peruvian Medium-Sized Manufacturing Companies(Universidad Icesi, 2023-01-01)The study focuses on the relationship between the New Product Development Process activities and the success of the new products. Research on this topic is still scarce in emerging countries. From a survey of medium-sized manufacturing companies in Peru, an OLogit regression was used on 140 companies in the Lima and Callao regions. The results indicate that most companies carried out these activities, but only three out of eighteen are decisive for the success of the new product, which minimizes some that are considered key by the theory. This means that this process may not have been well structured or managed. The findings are important not only to improve the efficiency of innovation management, but also to support public policies. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The influence of market orientation and new product development processes on new product success(Costa Rica Institute of Technology, 2025-05-01)Since not all new products are introduced to the market successfully, the quality of the new product development process and its technical or market focus are of special importance. Many studies based on large companies in developed economies show that market orientation is a key factor for success. Despite this, little attention is still paid to this issue in developing economies. The of this study is to analyze to what extent the success of new products depends on the rigor with which new product development processes are carried out and their market orientation. Using a dendrogram with the Ward's linkage method on a sample of 140 manufacturing companies from Peru, three clusters of companies were identified. The clusters that report the greatest success are those characterized by superior quality and a strong technical orientation.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Networking, experimentation, and financing as drivers of accelerated growth in Peruvian startups(Springer Nature, 2025-12-01)This study assesses the impact of networking capability, experimentation capability, and access to financing on the accelerated growth of startups. Design/methodology/approach A quota sample of 119 Peruvian startups was analyzed using binary logistic regression across five models, each comprising different combinations of the three predictor variables. Findings The results indicate that family and friendship networks, academic background, and private capital exceeding USD 15,000 are significant predictors of growth. In contrast, professional networks and public funding programs show no statistically significant effect. Furthermore, experimentation capabilities—particularly those involving scientific knowledge and business model consolidation—are strongly associated with growth. Practical implications Managers should consider that a combination of access to funding, experimentation capability, and networking capability offers a better prediction of accelerated growth than any of these factors individually. In addition, policymakers should note that the amount of funding is crucial for the early-stage growth of startups. Originality/value This study contributes to the understanding of how dynamic capabilities drive the accelerated growth of startups in nascent ecosystems, such as the Peruvian context.2
