- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, "Trilce" de César Vallejo y la mujer moderna(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2023-12-18)This article interprets Trilce (1922) by César Vallejo as a reaction to the emergence of the modern woman. By linking the analysis of the poems to a historical reconstruction of the changes that were underway in the social positioning of Peruvian women at the beginning of the 20th century, it explores the female figures of the mother, the sexual woman, the woman who has aborted and the voiceless woman, and shows how Trilce relates them to different aspects of time and modernity. Furthermore, it shows how, when facing these figures, the speaker makes himself visible, with bad conscience, as a subject who is not universal, but male. It is also in the face of these female figures that the poems signal that the encounter with the modern woman is what forces their own poetic style towards its most avant-garde innovations. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Theatre for transformative gender justice: a comparison of three Peruvian plays on rape during political violence(Taylor and Francis, 2021-01-01)This chapter explores the potentials and problems of theatre for a transformative gender justice agenda. This is an important problem from the perspective of transformative gender justice, for the play does not face its audience with the need to change gender relations specifically. The potential of theatre to transformatively redress sexual violence during conflict is not, therefore, straightforward. The play is nonetheless open to a similar critique as La cautiva, particularly with regards to the victimising portrayal of rape-survivors as innocent and passive. The chapter compares the techniques, circulation, and reception of three Peruvian plays on rape during political violence. In a country where most consider the period of political violence over and dealt with - and almost entirely ignore its gendered dimension - the play forces an appreciation of the specific experiences of women during the conflict, as well as their ongoing trauma from lack of official and national redress. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Terruqueo and memory: The representation of armed leftist militants in post-conflict Peruvian cultural production(Washington University in St. Louis, 2025-10-01)Peruvian cultural production framed within the discourse of duty-memory, according to which remembering the political violence that occurred in the country between 1980 and 2000 is vital for the construction of a democratic nation, has centered on the figure of the innocent victim. This article questions the place given by this production to the representation of armed leftist militants and the extent to which they are depicted as terrorists. Arguing that the logic behind terruqueo—the right-wing strategy of accusing any critics of the State and capitalist system of being terrorists—has surreptitiously conditioned even the most complex Peruvian duty-memory cultural productions, this article offers (counter) readings of three representative cases: the novel La hora azul by Alonso Cueto (2005), the film La última tarde directed by Joel Calero (2016), and the autobiographical essay Los rendidos by José Carlos Agüero (2015). Afterwards, the article offers interpretations of two other productions that take relative distance from the duty-memory framework (the documentary Aquí vamos a morir todos directed by Andrés Mego (2012) and the autobiography Memorias de un soldado desconocido by Lurgio Gavilán (2012)), proposing that they circulate otherwise censored left-wing memories.1
