Item type:Publication, Psychometric Properties of the Peruvian Version of the Gross Motor Development Test - Third Edition(Federacion Espanola de Docentes de Educacion Fisica, 2023-01-01)The Test of Gross Motor Development - Third Edition (TGMD-3) assesses the fundamental motor skills competence of children aged 3 to 10 years. The objectives of the study were to translate the TGMD-3 into Peruvian Spanish and to analyze its psychometric properties for Peruvian children aged 6 to 10 years. A cross-cultural translation of the TGMD-3 was carried out in order to have a Peruvian Spanish version. The study involved 19 professionals and 348 Peruvian children aged 6 to 10 years recruited from the three natural regions of Peru (coast, highlands and jungle). Item rating agreement among experts was appropriate (Content Validity Index > 94.4 %; Kappa Coefficient > .802). The confirmatory factor analysis corroborated the validity of the two-factor model (chi-square on degrees of freedom = 1.618; comparative fit index = .905; root mean square error of approximation = .042; standardized root mean residual = .056; goodness-of-fit index = .998), showing acceptable construct validity. Concurrent validity ratified the motor deficits or potentialities presented by the children (-.68, p < .001). Finally, the reliability indices obtained (internal consistency = .851, test-retest = .951, inter-rater = .963, intra-rater = .983) met the most demanding standards. The results confirmed that the TGMD-3 Peruvian version is appropriate for assessing the fundamental motor skills competence of Peruvian children. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
The Physical Activity Questionnaire for Schoolchildren (PAQS) was developed for the national surveillance of physical activity (PA) in the adolescent school population of Peru, considering the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO). The study aimed to design and confirm the reliability and validity of the Peruvian PAQS for 12 to 17 year-olds. The reliability and validity process involved 1576 adolescent schoolchildren (812 males and 764 females) between 12 and 17 years old belonging to three natural regions of Peru (coast, jungle and highlands). The results showed adequate test-retest reliability (mean daily PA time = .865; mean daily school activities PA time = .829; mean daily free time PA time = .841), except for mean daily PA time in transportation to and from school (.686), where reliability was very close to acceptable (≥ .70). In relation to content validity, optimal values of concordance (Lawshe's Content Validity Ratio = 1.00) and agreement (Fleiss Kappa Validity = .82 to 1.00) between judges were found. And in the concurrent, a very large significant relationship was found (PAQS and PACE in the last week r = .779, p-value = .000; PAQS and PACE in a usual week r = .749, p-value = .000. Reliability and validity results confirmed that the PAQS is suitable and acceptable for measuring PA of adolescent schoolchildren aged 12 to 17 years according to WHO guidelines. Item type:Publication, Attitudes and Physical Self-Concept as Determinants of Physical Activity Practice(Universidad de Murcia Servicio de Publicaciones, 2023-01-01)The regular practice of physical activity (PA) in adolescence is essential for good health throughout life; therefore, studying the variables that condition PA behavior is of great importance to reinforce or modify behavior in a timely manner in order to guarantee a healthier society. In this sense, the main objective of this study was to examine the correlation and relationship between attitudes and physical self-concept with PA practice in Peruvian adolescents. This is an empirical research of an associative nature in which 1264 schoolchildren aged between 14 and 17 years (15.51±.94), from public and private institutions in Lima and Callao, Peru, participated in a sociodemographic questionnaire, a questionnaire of attitudes towards the practice of physical-sports activity, a physical self-concept questionnaire and an inventory of habitual physical activity. The results, firstly, showed that the highest correlation score between the variables studied was between attitudes and PA practice (.511), which was corroborated by a large effect size (.25). Second, 25.1 % of the variability in practice was found to be due to changes in attitudes and physical self-concept. In addition, according to the multiple regression analysis, the model proposed proved to be valid (y = -.560 +.894x1+0.94x2). Thus, on the one hand, it is explained that for each point that is increased in attitudes (x1), PA practice increases.894 on average, keeping physical self-concept constant (x2); on the other hand, for each point that is increased in physical self-concept (x2), PA practice increases.94 on average, keeping attitudes constant (x1). In conclusion, it is shown that the attitudes and/or physical self-concept of adolescents condition PA practice.
