Item type:Publication, A new species of Telipogon (Oncidiinae) from Bolivia(Jardin Botanico Lankester, 2024-01-01)Telipogon minutus, from the Carrasco National Park in the Bolivian Yungas, is proposed as a ne species. Plants of T. minutus, which reach up to 4 cm in height, are the smallest known Bolivian Telipogon. The new species is characterized by its oblong to ovate labellum, which is weakly sub-auriculate and retuse at the base, with a semi-circular stigma, a column with two lateral lobes and a mammillary protuberance at the apex, and two tufts of setae with trifurcate apices. A description, figures, and a distributional map of the new taxon are provided, along with a discussion of the differences between the new species and morphologically similar Telipogon species. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Scientific note: Phoretic interaction between Antherophagus (Coleoptera) and Bombus funebris (Hymenoptera), using Chuquiraga jussieui (Asteraceae) as transfer stations in the páramos(Springer-Verlag Italia s.r.l., 2024-06-01)Beetles of the genus Antherophagus are phoretic organisms that inhabit the nests of Bombus species. They migrate and colonize new nests using the same bumblebees as carriers. Although Antherophagus beetles from temperate Europe and North America are known to use some plant species to move between bumblebees, it is unknown which plants are used as transfer stations by neotropical Antherophagus. Here, we report for the first time how phoretic Antherophagus beetles of an undescribed species use the inflorescences of Chuquiraga jussieui to transfer between individuals of Bombus funebris in the páramos of Central Ecuador. Our observations are the highest records (at 4200 m asl) of a phoretic interaction performed so far. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, A Revised Checklist of Lepanthes (Orchidaceae) from Peru, Including New Country Records(Springer, 2023-06-01)We present a checklist of species of Lepanthes (Orchidaceae) from Peru, based on published reports supplemented by personal observations and the review of some herbarium specimens. Of the 81 species here reported from Peru, five are new records for the country and 44 are endemic. For each recorded species, we provide the accepted name, publication data, type, synonymy, and distribution in Peru by department and extralimital distributions by country. A map showing the numerical distribution of species by department and photographs of the five newly recorded and one recently described species are also provided. One lectotype is designated. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Morphological and genetic evidence support the reinstatement of the long-forgotten Telipogon teuscheri (Orchidaceae, Oncidiinae) from southwestern Ecuador(Pensoft Publishers, 2026-01-01)Telipogon teuscheri , a rare orchid species from southwestern Ecuador, was described by Garay in 1958, but has long been forgotten after being placed in synonymy with T. tesselatus by Dodson in 1989. Revision of type material, herbarium specimens, field observations, and collecting itineraries, along with genetic analyses, has revealed that T. teuscheri is morphologically and genetically distinct from T. tesselatus . Furthermore, our revision of herbarium material and iconography indicates that T. isabelae , described by Dodson in 2004, is conspecific with T. teuscheri and should be treated as a synonym, thereby resolving a long-standing taxonomic confusion. We present a detailed morphological description, illustrations, a distribution map, the phylogenetic position, and notes on habitat, phenology, and conservation status of T. teuscheri .
