    La diversidad de la arquitectura ceremonial en la sierra oriental de Áncash durante el periodo Intermedio Tardío: una aproximación desde el sitio de Marcajirca

    Este artículo presenta los resultados de las investigaciones (excavaciones y prospecciones sistemáticas) en el sitio de Marcajirca (1000 - 1500 d.C.), en la sierra de Áncash, con énfasis en el estudio de la arquitectura ceremonial. Durante nuestro trabajo hemos identificado cuatro tipos de edificios ceremoniales: altares, ushnus, torreón y anfiteatro, distribuidos a través de todo el asentamiento. Su localización y espacio circundante sugiere una diversidad de ceremonias practicadas. Estas ceremonias varían en el grado de aglutinación de personas, la frecuencia con que éstas se practican, además de dar luces de quiénes podrían haber liderado dichas ceremonias. Este estudio propone una multiplicidad de rituales y la naturaleza de ellos, cuyos fines varían entre chamanismo o curaciones, fertilidad, año nuevo agrícola, danzas, así como también chacchadas de coca, culto a los muertos y veneración a los ancestros.

    Contextos estratigráficos de la cerámica recuay: una perspectiva desde Huamparán, sierra oriental de Áncash

    This case report correlates the types of ceramic wares and the stratigraphy of the Recuay site of Huamparán in the Callejón de Conchucos, Ancash. It was concluded that the various ceramic types were not in sequential but coetaneous use throughout the three phases of occupation (200 B.C.-A.D. 900). The predominance of ceramic types with shashal all throughout the Recuay sequence suggests that sociopolitical changes did not alter the manufacture of ceramics using this material, which endured throughout all of the Late Intermediate Period. Some types likewise suggest non-local manufacture and interrelations with other groups, both coastal and from the northern highlands.

    Algunas evidencias de las interacciones entre los recuay y la costa norte durante los períodos Intermedio Temprano y Horizonte Medio

    This report presents the results of the research undertaken at Huamparán, a site in the Conchucos Region associated with the Recuay culture. Two uncommon ceramic vessels found during excavations are herein described and their origin is discussed. These objects are the first evidence of the interaction between the North Coast (possibly the Gallinazo or the Moche) and the eastern highlands of Ancash at the beginning of the Middle Horizon (c. 500-700 A.D.). Although the nature of these interactions has yet to be established, we posit that in this region the Recuay took part in long-distance exchanges without any influence of the Wari State.
