- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Inhabit in movement: The case of mobile digital workers in Lima (Peru)(Ministerio de Fomento, 2024-01-01)In the last decade, there has been an exponential increase in the delivery services of apps in the cities of Latin America, which has involved challenges for urban studies. This paper contributes to the research focused on the labor conditions of digital mobile workers within an approach that addresses the new forms of urban inhabit produced by these actors. From a case study of Lima (Peru) and an ethnographic approach, the connector role that the deliveries made for an area with a high concentration of financial activities is identified. It is argued that the ways of inhabiting are produced in contexts of vulnerability, emphasizing that the municipality controls the public space. It is concluded by highlighting the importance of inhabits experiences as an analytical dimension of the labor practices of digital mobile workers. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Layered embeddedness: Exploring informal transport across urban scales in Lima-Callao(Elsevier BV, 2026-06-01)Based on mobile ethnographic fieldwork following informal transport routes and their drivers, this paper dissects the social embeddedness of informal transport in Lima-Callao (Perú). The paper builds upon recent critical approaches to the social constitution of informal transport in the Global South to explore how this process of embeddedness develops in a city where daily commutes still depend heavily on informal transport despite recent transport reforms. The social embeddedness of informal transport, I propose, implies interactions that change across the urban scales of the city, involving bidirectional relationships and blurry boundaries between drivers and users in the urban peripheries of the city. As such, the article argues for a multi-scalar analysis of the social embeddedness to enable a more comprehensive understanding of informal transport. This type of analysis would allow to consider social embeddedness comprehension as an important factor in transport transition reforms.1
