Structured equations to assess the socioeconomic and business factors influencing the financial sustainability of traditional Amazonian Chakra in the Ecuadorian Amazon
(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2024-03-01)
This study focuses on investigating the dimensions of sustainability and their influence on financial-economic sustainability (FES) in traditional agroforestry systems (TAFS) using the case of the Amazonian Chakra. The main objectives were to analyze the dimensions of sustainability and to establish the causal relationships between these dimensions and the FES. To carry out this research, 330 households in Napo Province that use the Amazonian Chakra system to grow cocoa were selected in order to analyze the relationship between the different dimensions of sustainability and FES in this unique context. The results of the study show that practices related to food security (FS) and business factors (BF) have a positive and significant impact on the FES of cocoa-producing households in the Amazonian Chakra system. These findings support the importance of ensuring the availability and quality of food and promoting responsible business practices in these environments. In contrast, the dimensions of environmental resilience (ER) and biodiversity conservation (BC) showed a negative impact on FES, highlighting an economic-financial imbalance in relation to conservation and environmental resilience actions in the Amazonian Chakra. This study contributes to the knowledge needed to promote agricultural practices that include an equal focus on FES, biodiversity conservation, and environmental resilience practices in a globally significant area, providing valuable information for the design of sustainable agricultural policies and practices in the Amazonian Chakra.

Mediation of brand reputation and image in the relationship between perceived corporate social responsibility and brand equity and loyalty of technology companies among Generation Z: The moderating role of gender
    (Cogent OA, 2024-01-01)
This study examines whether the effects of perceived corporate social responsibility (PCSR) on brand equity and brand loyalty are jointly mediated by brand image and brand reputation in the technology industry. It also explores the moderating role of gender in these relationships. The sample consisted of 420 Generation Z members from Lima, selected through gender-stratified random sampling. The study focuses on the technology sector, represented by the large FAANG companies (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google), justified by their high stock market visibility and relevance in business strategy research. Data were collected using a 21-item instrument, and PLS-SEM structural equation modeling was employed to explain brand equity and brand loyalty, as well as to validate the items and hypotheses. The results support positive effects between PCSR, brand equity, and brand loyalty, highlighting the previously unexplored mediation of brand image. Additionally, it was found that gender moderates the relationship between PCSR and brand loyalty, with a stronger effect observed among women. The Hierarchy of Effects Model, which examines direct effects, mediators, and moderators, is proposed as the theoretical framework. Practical implications suggest that brand managers should recognize the mechanisms linking PCSR, brand equity, and brand loyalty to effectively attract Generation Z.

Personal variables in attitude toward green purchase intention of organic products
(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2024-01-01)
The present research aims to determine whether environmental awareness, green self-identity, and subjective norms influence the attitudes of consumers who identify with environmental issues and have green purchasing intentions for organic products. The research was quantitative, correlational in scope, and cross-sectional in design. It was applied to 710 Peruvian millennials. A questionnaire consisting of 20 questions was applied, which was quantified through a five-point Likert scale. The results were processed through an Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Statistical analyses were developed using SPSS 24 and AMOS 24. The study identified that the personal variables influencing the environmental attitudes of millennials who intend to buy green organic products are green self-identity and subjective norms. While environmental awareness does not influence environmental attitudes, it does influence the green self-identity of Peruvian millennials. This study is one of the first to identify the personal variables influencing the environmental attitudes of Peruvian millennials who intend to buy green organic products.

Application of the affinities theory to the environmental sustainability of tourist destinations: The case of Ljubljana
    (Elsevier Ltd, 2024-09-01)
Sustainability has become a critical concern for many destinations seeking to revitalize their tourism industry while also dealing with issues stemming from climate change. To address these challenges, practical strategies to manage the harmful effects of the environmental crisis are necessary. Despite the critical role of sustainability, there still needs to be more practical solutions for implementing it in practice. The article aims to (i) broaden the discussion on sustainable tourism and solutions to reduce the impacts of climate change, and (ii) to understand the relationships of affinities between pro-environmental initiatives and the characteristics of the destination based on the perceptions of tourists who visit the city of Ljubljana. This study analyses tourist perception in an urban destination focusing on reducing carbon footprint and promoting sustainable development. Through a case study and the application of Affinities Theory, a specific algorithm to recognise affinity connections, a database with 372 international tourists who visited Ljubljana is utilised. This study has an explanatory goal and uses a comprehensive method (quantitative-qualitative). The findings confirmed that the characteristics of the destination most relevant to the tourist are Sustainable, Environmentally Friendly, and Safe. The research acknowledged practical approaches to improve the competitiveness and sustainability of tourism. The results could assist managers and policymakers in formulating sustainability-based strategies and reducing decision-making uncertainty. Also, it deepens the theoretical understanding of sustainable tourism and climate change mitigation strategies using a modelling and simulation method that other researchers can replicate in different contexts. This innovative research employs the Affinities Theory to assess Ljubljana's urban sustainability, examining how environmental practices can help reduce climate change's impact and how tourists perceive these practices.

Organizational Culture and Organizational Performance: The Role of Companies of a Developing Economy to the COVID-19 Pandemic
(Sage Publications India Pvt. Ltd, 2023-01-01)
The study sought to understand the relationship between organizational culture (OC) and organizational performance (OP) and included economic activity as a control variable in large and medium-sized companies in Ecuador. The authors collected data from 342 employees from different hierarchical levels and functional and operational areas of different economic activity through online surveys at two points in time. A descriptive analysis and structural equation modelling were applied. The results revealed that the culture of involvement, consistency and mission significantly explained OC. Of these, the mission was the most important. In addition, the research proposes another dimension called commitment. OP was significant for individual-level performance, group-level performance and job stability. In addition, individual-level performance and job stability were best related to business performance. When the type of economic activity is involved, the culture of involvement and consistency is more significant. The outcomes suggest that all the characteristics of OC and OP ensure the integration of strengthened principles into strategies, which, although unrelated to each other, are good predictors for improving corporate governance. Despite the popularity of studies on OC and OP, this research showed that it is still at an early stage of research in emerging economies. It provides managers with knowledge for effective management of the work environment.

Mediating Effect of the Adoption of Industry 4.0 Technologies on the Relationship Between Job Involvement and Job Performance of Millennials
(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2023-07-01)
Despite recent interest in Industry 4.0, little is known about the relationship between job involvement and job performance of millennial workers in companies. The present study addresses this knowledge gap by exploring the mediation of the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies (IND) between job involvement (INV) and job performance (PRF). Data was collected from 241 employees of large Canadian companies. The structural equation model was used to test the mediation effect of IND and the relationship between INV and PRF. Results based on this model (SEM) revealed differences by gender. It was found that in men, INV was positively related to PRF and that in women, INV was positively related to IND, although it was also evident that millennial employees showed egalitarian gender attitudes by strongly perceiving IND positively with PRF. Furthermore, IND fully measured the relationship between INV and PRF in manufacturing firms but not in service firms. Years of work experience was also found to affect the mediation effect of IND between INV and PRF, while it was not significant for education level. This study also highlights demographic criteria such as the age, income, and status of millennial employees. Implications of these findings are discussed, and useful insights are provided on new I4.0 approaches that improve industrial processes. This research contributes to developing the Theory of Planned Behaviour and proposes that managers use current continuous improvement approaches, human-centred and consistent with new I4.0 technologies.

Algorithm Applied to SDG13: A Case Study of Ibero-American Countries
    (MDPI, 2023-01-01)
Scientific studies confirm the existence of a crisis caused by climate change, in which global causes produce local effects. Despite climate agreements, greenhouse gas emissions continue to fall short of targets to limit global warming. There is still a need for comparable data for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13—Climate Action. The motivation of the research is to provide data for decision-making and to propose solutions to address the climate crisis. The article aims to propose a Fuzzy Logic algorithm to evaluate the SDG13 indicators and to deepen the discussion on climate change. The research is applied explanatory with a combined approach (quantitative-qualitative) through modeling, simulation, and case studies. As a result, the OWA operator ranks 10 Ibero-American countries to SDG13, indicating Colombia, Peru, and Cuba in the first positions. The main contributions are the reduction of identified knowledge gaps and proposals for action for policy and decision-makers. A limitation of this study would be the number of participating countries. The authors indicate future lines of research.
