Explore what entrepreneurship and success factors can help drive business to resilience and stability and achieve competitive advantage through innovation in different countries and business realities in the era of digital transformation and turbulent times. METHODOLOGY: Based on the narrative literature review, we present research findings concerning new strategies and outlooks for business innovation in times of many unknowns. Each organization wants to find its way to gain success and create its unique business model, which can capture value creation and innovativeness and be more adaptive, resilient, and stable in critical moments and sustainable over time. FINDINGS: The articles presented in this issue explore the essential factors of business innovation and success in different organizations and the environments in which these businesses function. IMPLICATIONS FOR THEORY AND PRACTICE: This article synthesizes the presented research field’s importance and relevance, connecting its theoretical background with practical research. Recommendations and implications for future trends of this research stream might also be helpful for professionals and academicians. ORIGINALITY AND VALUE: The novel studies presented in this issue were done in five different (developing and developed) countries and business sectors that present human-based and non-human-based factors as crucial factors needed to empower business transformation in a complex world. Each group of elements is essential in business success, and their components are interdependent. We need to look at the interactions and interdependencies of their components in a dynamic and network form and cannot simplify the reality, focusing only on one group of business components and ignoring the other. These unique studies provide a valuable outlook to establish dynamic, adaptive business pathways towards a sustainable and resilient organizational future and propose future research paths needed to execute structural changes in businesses.

Development of a framework to assess challenges to virtual education in an emergency remote teaching environment: A developing country student perspective—The case of Peru
    (MDPI, 2022-10-01)
The COVID-19 pandemic forced most countries’ higher-education systems to shift to distance learning, which has been called either “Corona Teaching” or, more formally, “Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT).” Students were suddenly faced with a new class format delivery and the many challenges of virtual education. The present study aims to identify and measure the challenges in three stages: (1) a qualitative method approach was used to gather the opinions of 50 students that were then analyzed and coded to identify their perceived major challenges; (2) a survey was completed by 165 students to prioritize the relative importance of the previously identified challenges using the AHP as the weighting approach; (3) an assessment framework was developed, using statistical techniques to measure the extent of the challenges for specific stakeholders based on survey responses. The main challenges students face are inadequate physical facilities at home, difficulties with the learning platforms, and financial concerns. These results are applicable beyond the present research context. For the first time, an ERT assessment framework of the challenges was developed using composite indicators derived from students’ opinions and perspectives. This ERT framework allows for the exploration of a community of students’ vulnerability to the challenges within the context of an emergency remote environment.

Charting the evolutionary conceptual pathway of analytic network process research: A main path analysis
(John Wiley and Sons Ltd, 2024-05-01)
This study delves into the flow and structure of knowledge prevalent in Analytic Network Process (ANP) literature. It traces the evolutionary pathway of ANP research, spotlighting seminal works and unfolding the development of topics over time. Analysing 4583 ANP literature records from 1986 to 2022, this research utilizes two pivotal data sources: Web of Science (WoS) and Dimensions. This main path analysis (MPA) approach is coupled with techniques such as citation analysis, social network analysis, and centrality measures to identify most influential papers, as well as using a search path algorithm (SPC) to provide higher weights to papers that serve as bridges connecting different research paths rather than simply counting all citations equally. Key works emerged as focal points in both datasets, including notable contributions from Lee, Kheybari and Büyüközkan, with the Dimensions dataset uniquely highlighting Saaty as the initial conceptual knowledge source of the ANP. The centrality measures unearthed persistent bridge roles undertaken by key contributors such as Saaty and Sarkis over different time periods. Furthermore, a detailed topic analysis discerned eight distinctive thematic clusters among the two data sources: analytical network process, network process, fuzzy analytic, evaluation laboratory, supply chain, quality function, hierarchy process, and information systems. These clusters emerged, providing a comprehensive map of ANP topics and their evolution. The study offers a comprehensive framework for scholars to navigate the expansive domain of ANP research. Identifying pivotal works and emergent themes provides direction for future research endeavours. It allows practitioners to gain invaluable insights into the foundational and transformative works in the ANP realm, enhancing their understanding and application of the methodology. This paper proposes of a dual methodological strategy: First, by using traditional academic data sources (WoS) along with a more encompassing Dimensions database; and second, by using a SPC algorithm to weight MPA papers based on their connecting role among different research paths. At the discipline level, this study carves out a novel vantage point in understanding the ANP research landscape. It offers an integrated portrayal of the field's conceptual evolution, identifying specific cluster topics as an indispensable resource for scholars, practitioners, and students.

Analytic Network Process in Economics, Finance and Management: Contingency Factors, Current Trends and Further Research
    (Elsevier BV, 2023-09-04)
This study explores the recent use of the Analytic Network Process (ANP) in the decision process in the areas of economics, finance and management to identify common contingency factors, current trends, representative studies and directions for further research applications in the target areas. A systematic literature review of 434 ANP studies for a 10-year period (2012–2021) within the Scopus database was conducted using the keyword “Analytic Network Process” in articles indexed in the following two categories: (1) Business, Management and Accounting, and (2) Economics, Econometrics and Finance. Further analysis using a citation-based graph and contingency analysis approaches was performed to identify usage trends. Our findings indicate that the most common ANP applications are with sustainable supply chain management and business evaluation frameworks. There is also a trend of applications engaging stakeholders in the decision-making process. Finally, it was found that the ANP is most commonly used as part of a multicriteria multi-method (a method followed by others) or integrated decision-making (hybridization of methods) approach rather than alone. The most common use (>80%) of the ANP is as part of a multi-method or integrated method with other tools such as DEMATEL, which suggests these approaches, in particular integrated ones (>50%), are becoming the preferred method of analysis to simplify the ANP process. From a practical point of view, it was found that the ANP is particularly utilized in sustainable projects to facilitate the participation of various stakeholders. This is the first focused review of the use of the ANP in the areas of economics, finance and management with an emphasis on its application as well as its contingent factors. Also, representative studies have been highlighted in each area. Traditional reviews have not delved deeply into the areas and contingent factors that this study explores.

A Comprehensive Bibliometric Analysis and Future Research Directions in the Nexus of Sustainable Business Practices and Turnover Intention
    (Elsevier Ltd, 2023-12-01)
This study aims to investigate the complex interplay between sustainable business practices (SBP) and turnover intention (TI), emphasizing how sustainability initiatives impact employee retention and organizational commitment. Methodology: A bibliometric analysis of 325 articles from the Scopus database, spanning 2013–2023, was conducted using Bibliometrix in R-Studio, systematically addressing five pivotal research questions related to SBP and TI. Articles were chosen based on predefined search terms, focusing on SBP, job satisfaction, and TI, and adhered to strict inclusion/exclusion criteria. Findings: Organizations adopting SBP witness a significant decrease in TI, attributed primarily to enhanced job satisfaction and fortified organizational commitment. Concurrently, the literature on SBP and TI has seen an evolutionary shift from predominantly environmental concerns, such as carbon emissions and waste management, to broader socio-economic sustainability dimensions encompassing social responsibility, community engagement, and economic growth. International collaboration in this realm has proven vital, with significant contributions from countries such as Spain, China, and the UK. Leadership efficacy, supportive organizational culture, and emphasis on work-life balance are pivotal in strengthening the SBP-TI bond. Implications for theory and practice: Beyond academic interest, understanding the SBP-TI relationship is crucial for managers and policymakers. Effective SBP integration within organizational strategies can simultaneously promote sustainability and reduce turnover. This emphasizes the practical need for leadership, a supportive culture, and work-life balance to achieve environmental and socio-economic sustainability goals while retaining employees. Originality and value: By presenting an integrated perspective on SBP and TI, this research provides invaluable insights for organizations aiming to harmonize their sustainability objectives with employee retention strategies.

Social Network Analysis of Coffee Cooperatives for Sustainable Development: A Multi-Level Conceptual Framework
    (Wiley, 2026-01-01)
Coffee cooperatives in Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia support smallholders and shape SDG‐relevant outcomes, yet existing studies on cooperatives essentially treat relationships as context and hardly measure network structures. For the first time, the review synthesizes seven thematic areas spanning the previous five decades (1974–2024): performance, governance, certification, social capital, gender inclusion, innovation, and value chains. Building on this synthesis, a multi‐level social network analysis framework is proposed that defines three analytical boundaries (within cooperatives, between cooperatives, and across the broader coffee ecosystem) and links each boundary to whole‐network and node‐level metrics. The framework translates under‐measured mechanisms (coordination, brokerage, segmentation, dependency, and closure) into tie definitions, metric choices (e.g., density, centralization, modularity, clustering/transitivity; degree, betweenness, eigenvector or closeness centralities; structural hole), and model‐selection guidance for future empirical studies. This roadmap enables comparable empirical tests of how network structures and cooperatives' positions condition Sustainable Development in coffee systems.

Multi-criteria classification of spare parts in the steel industry
(Associação Brasileira de Engenharia de Produção, 2025-01-22)
Goal: This research addresses the critical challenge of evaluating spare parts inventory in the steel industry to enhance maintenance efficiency and reduce operational costs. Design/methodology/approach: The study applies the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), a widely recognized multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method, to develop a robust decision support system. A hierarchical structure of criteria and sub-criteria, along with alternatives (spare parts), was constructed based on an extensive literature review and validated through input from three maintenance and inventory management experts. The system was implemented in a Brazilian steel plant. Results: The AHP-based framework systematically classified spare parts, emphasizing their criticality. Spare Parts 1 and 2 were categorized as Class B, scoring 0.6 and 0.56, while Spare Parts 3 and 4 were classified as Class A, scoring 0.82 and 0.83. These findings confirm the effectiveness of the AHP methodology in prioritizing spare parts for improved inventory management and decision-making. Sensitivity analysis validated the framework's robustness, demonstrating stable classifications across varying criteria weights. Limitations of the investigation: While tailored to a Brazilian steel plant, the framework's scalability is evident. Limitations include its reliance on a specific context and the involvement of a limited number of experts, suggesting opportunities for broader validation. Practical implications: The simplified AHP framework gives managers an accessible tool for classifying spare parts, eliminating the need for complex hybrid methods. It enables efficient decision-making, particularly in industries with high operational demands. Originality: This research contributes a novel multi-criteria decision-making model for spare parts classification, significantly advancing maintenance efficiency and cost-effectiveness compared to traditional single-criterion approaches.
